The dwarf had finally stumbled her helm going clattering across the rocky outcropping leaving her head open and Rhafna was not one to miss an opportunity! No indeed she was swift on the mark before the woman could even get back on her feet with a swift dive akin to that of a Southern Magpie. She was a thing of terror to the poor dwarf.

War Of The Dwarves And The Orcs - Early Morning Scrimmage
The dwarf was down and as if to add insult to injury the crebian landed on her back and pecked her once more on the neck causing the dwarf to start bleeding. Indeed Rhafna and her sharp beak were unstoppable. She pecked again cawing loudly in the dwarfs ear letting her know before she died that it was her crebian of the east that had ended her miserable dwarven life.

The orc knew the dwarf was dead, but the cruelty of his race that bred on the corruption within him did not heed this, and he continued to press down on his victim's neck with no remorse. He would be the victor, and that is all that matters. Thoughts of another kill under his belt seemed to bring great joy to him, sad to say.

One last peck and the dwarf was dead. Her left eyeball was very juicy but there was more dead to make and more dead to eat, after all in war no one but crows and scavengers truly win. And if there was thing Rhafna was.... it was a scavenger. A couple powerful strokes of her wings and she was aloft looking for her next meal... victim. Thing.

Tossing the dwarf about with no respect for the dead, Sog shook her mercilessly, trying to dislodge any valuables his victim may have stowed on her person. Finding nothing, he dropped her to the ground; he kicked the body then began pulling off her dwarf boots. It is evident that his feet were too big, but he would try and squeeze his foot in all the same. Such was the senselessness of most orcs.

She'd had dwarf and eagle, perhaps it was time for a morsel of orc. The sharp eyed crow was the queen of the air as she swooped over the battlefield looking for her next victim She found one soon enough that had already seen battle, he would not be expecting this though with that she darted down beak first.

Throwing the boots aside, having no success getting them on his feet, Sog took his sword and hacked off the dwarf's beard. He had to have some prize. Tying it in a horse-tail knot, he attached it to his ragged scabbard. With one last kick at the deceased, he turned from the brutal scene and lopped off searching for another victim.

The orc was in shock. That was clear from the way that he reacted to the sudden and painful peck - there was screaming and flailing and cursing and all around it was just a hilarious show to the murderous crow. She blinked circled a few times and the dove back in for another round of entertainment from the poor unsuspecting orc. Honestly it was easier to get a good peck on them their armor was so much less cohesive than dwarven armor.

With a cry of outrage at seeing so many of her kin die at the hands of the orcs, Velm swung her axe at the crooked creature that stood in front of her with all her might, slicing off half of its face. She heard it scream and realize then that it was a she. Velm had heard similar high-pitched screams on the battlefield. The female orcs were out in numbers too. Well, Velm would have to rectify that by butchering this one up until she was the right size pieces for the carrion birds to pick up. Mercy had abandoned the female dwarf. War did that to folk.

It was Friday the 13th, and bad luck was falling on the female orc as Velm raised her axe again and cut deep into the creature's hip. The orc, yowling like a tortured cat, fell to the ground. Despite her injuries, she attempted to crawl away from her assailant. Velm, on the other hand, was having none of it. She advanced and booted the orc in the rear, knocking her face down onto the wound ground of the battlefield.

"Get away from me you crazy bird!" Dumag shouted and flailed. Unfortunately for the orc the crow took this as a challenge to her superior killing talents and decided that he most certainly needed to die in a most painful way. Death of a thousand pecks. Painful, embarrassing (at least for the orc) and very mess. Rhafna was very glad she was a black bird, it would be quite grotesque otherwise with all of the black and red blood that she was getting on her head and feathers.

The orc did not lay prostrate for long. Like a wounded insect, it twisted and turned, trying to gain some ground. But to no avail. Velm was there with her axe and swung it down. Red droplets rose before her eyes, and a cry of utter pain and despair filled her ears. She had found her mark, her weapon biting deep.

A quick jab and a slice of her beak and she had fresh orc cheek. Pity it was so filthy it would probably taste a bit better, though the salt from the sweat wasn't bad. Honestly she'd eat just about anything after all she was a crow! with a flick of her head and neck down the bit of orcken skin was down her gullet and she was getting ready it looked like for another bit. Perhaps this one with a bit less dirt?

As she stood over her victim, watching her blood flow from her body like slow-moving cinnabar filling a vein near the hot springs found in the mountains, Velm felt her ferocity subside. There was no fight left in this one. The orc would bleed out and die. Remaining alert, Velm took this time to rest. The fighting was not over yet.

This orc was wounded, it was clear to Rhafna it we also probably very clear to the orc, as she struck again mercilessly. This time on the back of his knee hobbling him so that he could not escape or flee in any sort of coherent manner. Coherent was probably outside of the orcs vocabulary Rhafna thought with a caw of a laugh at her own joke about how dumb the orc was. She shook her head tearing a bit more of his kneee and hopped away just out of range when he tried to attack and missed horribly.

A blood bubble formed on her victim's nostril. Velm's axe must have cut an important vein to make the orc lie bleeding so. But it was really for the best. The orcs were like maggots crawling over the deep-shadowed valley of the Dimrill Dale. She would soon be finding her axe, a new life and a limb to chop. But for now, she was not being harassed and moving away from the bleeding orc; she stood still resting, gazing at the battle.

The orc was down trying to crawl away from the angry and bloody crow that was set to do him in in perhaps one of the most grizzly manners one could in fact suffer. Probably worse than being mauled by a bear, mostly because death by a single crow was horrifically embarassing as Rhafna pecked at the back of the orcs other leg while hopping about on the bloody ground.

The orc was struggling and while Rhafna had brought him down there were hundreds of others stomping around and damaging the orc just as much as she was, if not more. Tenderizing him she would say. Yes indeed easy to go down into ones gullet. She let out a pleased croak as an especially large orc stomped on the smaller one that she had hobbled.

One particularly well placed (or poorly placed in the mind of Dumag) stomp from a fellow orc had him trapped on the ground under even more feet and he tried his best to pull himself along so that he could maybe get back up when he saw a crow that was clearly covered in blood hop towards him. This was the same bird that had ripped his cheek! he swatted at it angrily wanting to hit it but it hopped out of the way twisting it's head to look at him with a beady eye before flapping it's wings and being right in his face taking another peck at him with it's sharp beak.

Two black evil-looking birds landed beside the dying orc. Only a slight rise of the chest could indicate that the orc was still alive. But not breathing enough to dispel the carrion. They slowly moved around the body, alert, ready to fly. Their black eyes greedily scanned the still-warm meat that soon would be theirs to feast on.

The life sucked out of him well, stomped out of him and indeed Rhafna was proven right - the only true victors in war were the crows. For they could feast to their hearts content and fly away unharmed it was a fantastic thing indeed. With that she gave took one last morsel from the orc and decided that there was far sweeter meat to be had. Indeed orc was bitter to her now.

It was time for fresh corpse to nibble on Rhafna thought so she hopped up and flapped her wings spraying near by creatures with droplets of blood as she flew to find her next victim. Which was a dwarf that was busy fighting orcs. She dove down and pecked at the dwarf she'd picked out.

It was as if the carrion knew the exact time that the orc's heart stopped beating. The birds slowly moved in and commenced the feast. At first, it was slow pecking, but soon it became pretty aggressive, flesh falling carelessly to the ground for other birds to find and devour. Or some insects. Velm did not wait around, having been told that the birds preferred the deceased's face to the rest of the body, a sight she did not wish to see. Besides, it was time to wipe out another of the wretched race.

Yes there was a feast going in she could tell from the loud and happy cries of her brethren who while they were not as enterprising as her happy to exist off the kills of others were eating well. Rhafna was eaten better than well. She was feasting on the choicest parts of her own kills. This one's eyeballs seemed like they would be tasty as she flapped into his face blinding him temporarily with blood splashing off her slick feathers.

The dwarf stumbled around and Rhafna half hopped half flapped about him as she pecked and picked at him looking for weaknesses in his armor so that she could get little nibbles of dwarf. It was a bit tough and stringy compared to say... elf but the elves were gone already and orcs just tasted bad over all so dwarf would have to do until she found something better, though perhaps she had to find female dwarf? this one sounded like a male perhaps that's why he was as tough as he was.

With the sounds of battle in her ears, Velm came upon an orc pillaging the body of a fallen dwarf. Rage filled her as she watched the vile creature paw at the body of her kin. Coming up behind, she pulled her war hammer from her belt and slammed it into the orcs head; the Dumag damage was done.

Ohhh that was a lovely bit she croaked as she got a beakful of flesh that for once didn't have a wad of hair attached to it. Down the gullet it went as she kept flapping and pecking the dwarf seemed to be trying to protect his head and neck with his arms, she'd seen that before once already and was about to do the same when she saw someone swinging a great club. Even better, tenderized dwarf she thought. she pecked and flapped her wings until the dwarf ran arms first right into the swinging club with a fantastic crack.

It seemed that the blow to the head with Velm's hammer was all that was needed to disable the orc. The orc lay on the ground, pathetically twitching, like a fish out of water. But to make sure, she took her knife from her boot and put an end to the creature's life with a thrust to the heart. And once again, she had time to reflect and rest while the battle raged on, hidden behind her fallen victim.

CAW CAW CAW. Was all that Tomu heard as he staggered reeling from the club blow only to find a bird once again in his face driving him again into danger. Indeed the fear of birds was being put into Tomu and it would last for the rest of his life. How long that would be? Well that was to be decided but with Rhafna working on getting him beaten down it did not look like it would be terribly long.
