Things that tickle Fuins fancy that are just random and probably nobody cares about and isn't nearly important enough to go into the annoucemENT thread.


Today I found out I could print 1000 pages of black and white photocopies for $50 Canadian where I've moved to. SWEET HOLY HANDGRENADE OF ANTIOCH!


That is a third of what I would pay for that in Winnipeg...

Down side of tattoo shops being closed due to covid... Tattoo shops are closed...

Upsides my mom won't have to take care of my plants from the greenhouses for 2 weeks until I get home from Winnipeg to plant them. And honestly it's perfect timing so I can start turning my yard into an elf/hobbit paradise

I planted plum trees today. I now have Pembina and Brookgold Japanese Plum. So should get lots of plums.

Cool, Fuin! We had Crabby and grumpy granny apple trees and some bitter cherry where I grew up, Maniwaki, Quebec. My husband says that he remembers pear trees growing on the lawns of people in Ottawa, as a kid, but he hasn't seen any in a long time. Most of those fruity (pears, plums, peaches, nectarines) trees grow in southern Ontario (or at least that is what the sticker says when you buy the fruit in the supermarket).

It will be a few years before your trees fruit, right?

The apple and pear trees are probably planted in 2010? They are judging by their size at least 10 years old if not older. I think both pears are likely Ures looking at them but won't be able to tell until I get fruit.

I won't get plums this year for certain (though the saplings I planted are at least 3 years old so they COULD produce possibly) but if I let them produce it might be one or two fruit each as I want as much going into their roots so they survive winter we will have to see.

Apricots will not happen until next year due to a lack of supply locally in terms of apricot trees (this is the furthest north they will grow and they need a LOT of shelter here) so we'll see. I do have raspberry cane already and I am certain I have grapes so like.... I will have a ton of fruit this year regardless.

My mother is terrified lol cause she knows she's gonna have to help me deal with them if she wants homemade apricot pie. Bwahahahaha

I want to grow apricots! But it is too far north and I don't have room in the garden for a green house (according to my husband, somehow we do not see eye to eye on what our garden need *green house*). But I made a hedge of red and black currants last year that I am excited to see how works out. So far I am happy picking apples and pears from my parents garden and in good years, get apples from the neighbours, but I am considering to get a small apple tree of my own if I can pursade the hubby. But will have to wait, this year I bought several large containers for tomato growing, so I have pushed my luck enough:lol: Will be interesting to see if the tomatoes produce outside...

I'm going to be attempting it greenhouseless. I know uhhhh Kackenhoff Nursuries near winnipeg had dwarf fruit trees which may make it easier to keep the tree small! (it's suppose to stay 10-15 ft instead of the ones I have that can get up to 30 feet.

ALSO My dad who has been waiting for vaccine approval (he's over 65) got it the other day and is a few days away from his first dose. As such the rest of us are taking the plunge now as well (also second doses finally start becoming available on my birthday in MB so I probably won't be too far out of the recommended time frame for dose #2)0
