Lord of the Rings Parodies

We all enjoy LtoR (otherwise we would not be here) and for the most part we enjoy the various movies (though perhaps not Hobbit). But there are a wonderful amount of parodies of the movies and I figured it would be great to have a place to house them and discuss them together. Feel free to share links to one's you've seen (or perhaps made yourself) and we can enjoy them and laugh together. Some will be way better than others, but that's what parodies tend to be.

I think i've edited everyone's contributions in here so far.

Videos
Lord of the Crumbs (Sesame Street)
Lord of the Potter
Eagles Can't Solve Everything!
Lord of the Beans (VeggieTales)

Simpsons LOTR Spoof

Thank you @Dimcairien Luiniel , I did not know there was a Sesame Street parody. That's great! :smiley9:

Veggie Tales did a parody "Lord of the Beans" that I have not watched in a long time.

I think my favorite that I've come across is a brief Lego parody of why "Eagles Can't Solve Everything!"

The Harvard Lampoon wrote a parody called Bored of the Rings. This is an updated version; the copy I remember reading was my dad's and likely the original cover. You can get a sense of the humor from the Amazon page which has several excerpts. It's pretty lowbrow stuff, to be honest, and has several rather "adult" passages IIRC (I think my dad must have forgotten about those when he let me read it!), but it did make me laugh at least a couple of times!

@MistressofJesters I loved Bored of the Ring! Did not know they had an updated version. Well, here's some of my money, Amazon.

@Thalionwen that's the first time I've seen that webcomic. Thank you!

@Thalionwen already linked my favorite parody, and the only I'm about to link is not remotely close to my favorite, but many of us probably remember it and no LotR media collection feels complete to me without it:

Tell me, Orlando, where are they taking the hobbits again?

My love of Flying Moose is well known. Here I link below a re-write of The Council Of Elrond If It Were Run By RABT: this being another online gathering, I take it. Of course, we’re nothing like those guys...

Enjoy

I read Bored of the Rings at far far too young an age, and you can judge for yourselves what impact that has had on my life

I don't know that I had discovered many of these. I spent all my elementary school years watching the Legendary Frog "One Ring to Rule them All" series-- which is where I found out about the ballad of Bilbo Baggins... Perfection.

Flying Moose has so much great content. I also love that it still exists as a time capsule of sorts to late '90s / early '00s fansite web design. It's a little weird having so much nostalgia for an era of fandom I wasn't around for (mostly on account of my age), but then again, having nostalgia for things you didn't experience is very Tolkienian in a sense.

Speaking of throwbacks to an earlier era, the old TBS commercials for when they aired LOTR still make me smile (including Secret Lovers, Gollum Has Issues, and Disco Gollum). There were a few more, including one called "Studs of Middle-earth" which I recall giggling at, but unfortunately I can't find it at the moment.

This one is a bit of a throwback. Who remembers the vuvuzelas?

Oh damn, I remember seeing that video posted on the OG Plaza back in the day. :smiley9: I think vuvuzelas were the beginning and end of my knowledge of the 2010 World Cup (I had a lot of fun watching the 2014 and 2018 editions, though).

I don't know why I remember this one first before all the others... I'm not 100% positive this is the original video, but it is the song:

On Ducky's advice, here is something that is not entirely a parody, but still a strong contender for "glorious alternate Lord of the Rings"

I'm a big fan of 'Bored of the Rings'. The very title makes me laugh. I love the way Goldberry and Tom are depicted as being high as kites, and the Brer Rabbit pastiche is cool. And the way Elrond wants to bundle Frodo & Co out of Imladris as quickly as possible is hilarious. I wish I had the talent to write something as amusing and entertaining as this!

I’m surprised Hobbit Office hasn’t been mentioned yet.

You're right, how could we have missed that one! It's sooo good because it shows how much of Martin Freeman's performance of Bilbo was influenced by exactly this type of situational comedy (and really, to what a great extent that worked). It was a good read on the character Bilbo, I think.

What about the MTV award skits? Do they count as parodies? I know of at least the one with Gollum winning the award for Best Virtual Performance for TTT, and the one with Jack Black being unable to hand over the Ring at the Council of Elrond.

I haven't seen most of the ones others have suggested but am having fun watching the videos.

That was great @Mattie. I hadn't seen it before but Humphrey Bogart really does capture that elder-Hobbit energy
