Children of the Stones OOC
Normally, I'd say let's keep all OOC comments and such to the main OOC thread in the kingdom but as this could get complicated, I don't want things (both related to the RPG and general kingdom stuff) mixed up and lost so for all Children of the Stones related comments, questions, ideas, etc. please direct them here!
Hey so I was looking I have Fuin in Rohan already fairly regularly and she's less likely to join the Lindon group as an elf does she need to be with Lindon, or Rohan (I figure she might want to come to learn and see - also possibly learning what weapons/metal stores they might have used as a Forge Master) I was thinking she'd more likely hear about the expedition in Rohan than Lindon as she is in Lindon rarer than she is in Rohan oddly.
Also if I should wait for Lail to post first if I'm with Rohan
Also if I should wait for Lail to post first if I'm with Rohan
I'll leave that up to you, if it makes more sense for Fuin to be part of the Rohan group then she's more than welcome to join that side. Both sides are doing the same thing really, it's just a matter of who reports to who at the end of the day
Erniel will be along soon - every expedition needs a friendly doof!
AND OTTOR!!
Erniel and Ottor, the dynamic doof duo! Bring them!
A few questions for clarification sake if I may? Does everyone who wants to participate need to start in Edoras? The location of the ruins are in the White Mountains on the border of Rohan and Gondor I'm assuming the location is in the Eastfold region or the Femnarch bordering Anórien? Please correct me if I got my geography wrong.
For this RP I wanted to have a Rohirric character who lives in some kind of settlement nearby (nearby being a relative term) the place where the ruins are discovered. Would that be alright, for me and that character to start from there when the expedition nears the location and maybe stops by and takes more foodstuff and picks up local workers before they head to the location itself? The character would be a part of Lail's team.

@Fuin Elda - Of course Fuin is very welcome to join the Rohan cohort! If you want to go ahead and post arriving and milling about before Lailyn gets on scene, go for it. If you want to wait, that's fine too. This is shooting to the top of my posting priorities, so I plan to get to it this weekend!
@Nessa Saelind - My understanding of the location is that it is south of Edoras. I interpreted that as sort of due south, but without being Dunharrow, so not near Anorien. Personally, I am fine with you playing someone living somewhere en route to the ruins. However, I'd prefer if @Ambivalent Octopus swings by for clarification on both points as that is just my perspective and he is the brain behind this whole thing. I'm just a sidekick over here!

Awesome thanks @Lailyn I will very likely get Fuin milling about waiting for you with her falcon
@Lailyn - at first I did think that the location of the ruins was around Dunharrow, but apparently when you say border of Rohan and Gondor my mind automatically thinks Eastfold - Anórien
because apparently, the White Mountains for me are not a border between Gondor and Rohan.
I'll wait until Frost gets here and points at the map for us geographically confused folks
Let's face it, me mostly
Consulting my handy dandy Atlas of Middle-Earth, Anórien is pretty far east, Lail is right in that the location of the ruins is is south of Edoras but not quite Dunharrow (that would be an entirely different adventure) If I'm looking at the map correctly the major mountain in the area would be the Starkhorn, making it pretty easy for the troupes to follow (as the Snowbourne comes from said mountain).
The mountain the ruins are actually on would in a yet-to-be-named submountain region dominated by the Starkhorn. Far enough away that it's not a well known tourist attraction (for lack of a better word) but it's not utterly inaccessible.
Hope that clears things up? If not I can try and find some links and images that hopefully will do the trick.

Oooooh... An RPG! I might be interested.
Yes, this helped the geographically confused among usAmbivalent Octopus wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 5:55 pmHope that clears things up? If not I can try and find some links and images that hopefully will do the trick.
Perfect! I am in the midst of writing Yoshiyo's first post as we speak (I know, I know something about distractions and deadlines, yadda yadda). I'll be sure to make it very clear in her post where exactly (relative term here)the ruins are and what the expectations for traveling there as well as what will happen on the expedition itself for anyone still confused.
This looks intriguing, I might have to find a new character to come and join in. I don't think Aethelu or Dicun are quite the adventuring types so far
I would never encourage someone to create a new character *cough*lies*cough* so I say do it! The more the merrier!
I am excited to see old characters, new characters and "friendly doof" characters!
well it took me a touch longer than I would have wanted but I also needed to avoid driving in a blizzard so I suppose I shall have to forgive myself that!
Very excited to see Yoshiyo and Erniel a bit more since I ended up not being able to return for the feast much thanks to life. I do think everyone so far was at the feast.

I think, even in universe it would make sense for all the feast goers to show up first, Yoshiyo was doing some heavy recruiting there
and had clearly been making impressions on the locals with her bubbly antics
Well then, feast goers, you say? *adds RPG to the list just to be sure to post in it*
Did someone say DOOF!? (aka Ottor has arrived)
and what a glorious arrival it is!
I cannot wait to see all the shenanigans the trio are able to get into, all of course whilst being totally serious and scholarly and smarty of course
@Pele Alarion Do it, do it, do it!!
@Pele Alarion Do it, do it, do it!!
and I am sure after talking to Yoshiyo, Lailyn will also have talked up this little adventure even if it didn't happen "on screen." If anyone wants to write in/assume they spoke to her about it at Mettare or otherwise (off screen), by all means, feel free to do so.
I'd also love to see you join in, Pele!
shenanigans?! hang on this is very serious stuff here!

Rather than do a GM update in the main thread (I plan on making another Yoshiyo post later today) I'll ask here: are there any more people hoping to join in?I know @Nessa Saelind plans to join "in media res"as it were but are there any other possibles? I'm not trying to hurry anyone along or rush responses, I amd just trying to gauge how much potential activity there will be so I know how often to update and how many NPCs I might create to spread the interactions around.
Thank you darlings!
Thank you darlings!
I did have plans on joining you earlier, but writing a post for Life in the Mark kind of got away from me
(the thing is now 2.500+ words long and it's maybe 1/3 done
) and it slipped my mind that this week is Readathon so I'll be as far away from the laptop as I can.
So in medias res it will be, as soon as you lot stumble on a village en route, somewhere on the King's land by the looks of the maps.
I promise this was next on my list! I can pop something up today if you like and can add an NPC as well.
I still plan to join up... *mumbles about too many nests to watch*
@Nessa Saelind I may not be the ride or die kind person, but I'm definitely a write or die kind of person
get to it!
@Lailyn take your time! I didn't mean to mess your your posting list, I was just getting my own in order. Please go back to your regularly scheduled program (with all the NPCs your heart desires)
@Pele Alarion bring the birds with you!!

@Ambivalent Octopus too bad it was already at the top of my list for today!
not rushed at all, I promise.
@Ambivalent Octopus - I'll get to it
eventually, when I have more brainpower than I have at the moment
@Pele Alarion I was thinking of having Fuin recognize you from Gondor but I'm not sure where in the time line this RPG is falling so wasn't sure if she'd have met Pele at the House of Healing or Athelas picking. Feel free to recognize Fuin if you like just didn't want to post Fuin knowing her without asking first.
@Fuin Elda, I very much enjoyed your last post but I had one quibble with it. You referred to Redhor as "he" though it's been established that they use "they/them," pronouns. I would appreciate it if you did a quick edit? Don't mean to cause a fuss, but it is a sticking point with me. Thank you dearie
@Prometherion I hope I've fixed it (Assuming that Amrundir is not a they them as well). I did put his name in brackets so you know I'm refering to Amrundir instead of Redhor the one place I do use he. If I've missed any do let me know and I'll change it as well.
@Fuin Elda It looks good to me. Thank you for changing it
@Fuin EldaThere's always a Mettare feast! ;)
@Prometherion would it be alright if I jump in and join you at base camp or maybe in a village near base camp? Perhaps that the character I had in mind for this RP is waiting there with extra supplies? *thinking face*
I can allow in this instance, given that said character joins right at the start of the base camp phase of the RPG.
Narratively and logistically it doesn't make sense for people to be joining up after that point so I want to call it the hard cutoff for joining. But, if you can join by then and give the reason they are joining at the base camp/village rather than Edoras then you are welcomed to.
That said, I am aware that this RPG is not the be all, end all of everyone's life, which is why I'm giving such a large amount of time in between updates and giving them room to breath.

Thanks Frost
Since the character for this RP is a farmer's son and lives on the family farm on the King's Lands, narratively (or at least in my head) it made more sense that he joins the expedition somewhere en route (prior to going up the mountains) than have him travel to Edoras to meet everyone
Yeah, I'm needlessly making things complicated
Anyway, enough of me blabbering on, I'll have a post for you sometime this week where Dunstan and his wee donkey Hastings (yes, like the battle
) + additional supplies are waiting for the expedition to arrive.
I wish @Gwai was still around, she might be the only one that will get my "Dunstan? Oh no..." reaction to him once he shows up (for clarification purposes though it's a reference to the comedy/history podcast Rex Factor)
Quick heads up to anyone still wanting to join...
At some point in the next 24 hours from this post (currently 9:45 MST) I am going to write my "during the trip north" post and from there the actually journey will begin. Anyone who still wants to join will have until then to do so!
Hope to see you eager anthropologists soon!

Someone needs to help Yoshiyo negotiate!
I mean she still has Fuin's knife.... I feel like that would be a terrible idea though
I was thinking a series of unfortunate events sort of accident and she stabs him more than her ACTUALLY knowing how to use it
But hopefully someone will help since I've already committed to the fire at the camp.
Also very humored that it seems like you're going hard on the Minnisotan Elf accent (is how I'd put it?) Love it.

Yoshiyo does not need to stab anyone, the poor girl would be traumatized.
I can't remember the reason I started using the Minnisotan accent, but as soon as I decided that that was she sounded like it was all downhill. I have to write her dialogue out plain first then add in all the "dontcha knows" and "you betchas" because otherwise it becomes a cascade of nonsense

We'll see if Fenlaf can earn his pay by smoothing things over with the goat owner!
No stabbing accidental or otherwise or Lailyn is confiscating Yoshiyo's knife
Legit this is the current a theme on LOTRTok (TikTok) with Frodo speaking really polite high elven (british english) vs Legolas speaking 'hick elf' (Minnesotan english) and has been for I dunno? 6 or 7 months now? So the fact your doing it has made ridiculously happy.Enchantress wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 9:55 pm

That said yeah she'd be traumatized. we don't want that.
Well if all else fails, Fenlaf is willing to die for the elves
@Fuin Elda, if Fuin elects to take Lailyn's doggo, obviously feel free to RP him or not as you wish. It's up to you, I don't know what Fuin's feelings are on dogs and she is not responsible for Lail's pup problems.
But if you do, just note, I've been light/vague on the descriptions so far because Lailyn is currently in the market hoping to buy a dog but has not officially made the purchase yet so I don't want to assume anything.

@Lailyn Fuin likes doggos and doggos like Fuin in general. I'll be vague on specific descriptions but heavy on the big puppy eyes, possibly drool and panting and tail wagging
There will be lots of talking to the pupper since that's what I do with my own puppers.
