Riddles in the Dark
The White Tree of Gondor?
Artanis / Éomund / Brandor / Zarâm
It is not the White Tree of Gondor. Hint: the answer is a character/sentient being.
She/her. Almarëa - Rivendell / Jaena - Lone Lands (T.A.) and Gondor (F.A.) / Layna - Mordor
Is it Luthien Tinuviel?
No, it is not Luthien Tinuviel.
She/her. Almarëa - Rivendell / Jaena - Lone Lands (T.A.) and Gondor (F.A.) / Layna - Mordor
Is it the Isil, the Moon, piloted by Tilion?
Evil is a lifestyle | she/her
No, it is not the Moon. It was 100% inspired, however, by Discord.
*edit* Because we're on a new page, recap:
White and silver in the darkness,
named for a voice;
first light that returned,
after Death and Darkness.
Hint: it is a character or named sentient being.
Hint #2: Discord.

Nahar
Yes, that is actually the correct answer. @Dwarrow Elf, your turn.
All quotes from The Silmarillion:
"Nahar is the name of his horse, white in the sun, and shining silver at night."
"Nahar - The horse of the Vala Oromë, said by the Eldar to be so named on account of his voice"
"Then the pursuit was begun; and the earth shook beneath the horses of the host of Oromë, and the fire that was stricken from the hooves of Nahar was the first light that returned to Valinor."

Emphasis on that is actually, because I always whiff in my guesses to Alma's Who am I.
So here's my riddle:
So here's my riddle:
I had but one job
to stay behind
and secure our line.
But why is my body
among the slain
when I am not at home?
Why would anyone share my name?

I'm disappointed. No
Is it Faramir, second son of King Ondoher of Gondor?

That sounds an awful lot like Eowyn, if our riddler here isn't just being tricksy.
May the Horse be with you.
When I read the Unfinished Tales, I found it ironic that Faramir, second son of Ondoher, did the same thing Eowyn did, except die. Then Eowyn and a different Faramir ended up getting married.
Yes it is, Thalionwen! Good job! *celebrates*

YAAAAAAAY I GUESSED A THING!!!!!! Okay, this might end up being very obvious to everyone, but here goes...
A ship without sails
But many masts
I part the twilight waters

I part the twilight waters

If someone like Turin Turambar accidentally shot at this ship with an arrow, would the ship sink?
Firstly, this is NOT Who Am I, and secondly, no

Well is it Zhuangzi's Butterfly Dream then?
Coming in with an extra weird guess....is it a toothbrush?
they/them/actual hobbit in search of a merrier world
HAHA! I'm glad you said something, I wasn't thinking about it myself.
Can I ask ahead of my guess this time: is the answer Tolkien specific or nah?
This is NOT Zhuangzi's Butterfly Dream
It is also not a toothbrush
And yes, it is Tolkien specific

Okay, since no one has guessed yet, I'm adding another line. The riddle now reads as follows:
A ship without sails
But many masts,
I part the twilight waters.
Lonely, I lie at anchor.

*keeps guessing wildly* Bucklebury Ferry?
they/them/actual hobbit in search of a merrier world
That's a good guess, but no!

Going in a completely outlandish direction, Finwë? He got married more than once and seems to be a pretty lonely guy.
Artanis / Éomund / Brandor / Zarâm
Tol Eressea, where it was used to transport all the elves to Valinor, but now is an island.
Dimcairien, it is not Finwe, though that's a clever guess!
"Dwarrow Elf" it is indeed Tol Eressea. Riddle away!

Yay! That was a good riddle, Thalionwen!
Come with me and see before you
something rare that you'll only see
in certain places in Middle-Earth.
Look upon this entity!
If one reads it literally
it becomes the nightmare of all
economists.

Mithril?
Artanis / Éomund / Brandor / Zarâm
Not Mithril. It's not an economic nightmare due to its scarcity
I suspect the entity in mind is the mallorn tree.
May the Horse be with you.
I have no idea and I realize the more I participate in this thread that I hate riddles, but I'm gonna guess anyway...
The Palantiri?
The Palantiri?
Elvheimdros’ suspicions are correct!
Stone in stone and stone from stone:
Night and night show fright and fright.
Night and night show fright and fright.
May the Horse be with you.
A troll that has been turned into stone inside a stone castle?
Artanis / Éomund / Brandor / Zarâm
Not what I was thinking: this is a specific known object in Middle Earth.
May the Horse be with you.
I'll fredegarin' guess it again!
The Palantiri!?
The Palantiri!?
The Stone of Erech?
She/her. Almarëa - Rivendell / Jaena - Lone Lands (T.A.) and Gondor (F.A.) / Layna - Mordor
Ducky, you're on the right track, but you've given a whole class of objects.
Alma, no, although tangentially related.

May the Horse be with you.
Oh, should I specify the Palantir that Denethor used in Minas Tirith, which I believe was the stone of Minas Anor?
Once again, not quite.
May the Horse be with you.
Is it instead perhaps the Orthanc Stone, since it was also obviously inside stone, a tower, and Saruman basically saw the same thing Denethor saw?
@KingODuckingham There we go!
Stone in stone - kept inside the stone tower of Orthanc, yes
stone from stone - thrown from that tower by Wormtongue
Night and night - referring to the two nights in which Pippin looked in the stone and Aragorn used the stone after breaking it from Sauron's domination
show fright and fright - Pippin, obviously, but the second "fright" would be the Paths of the Dead which Aragorn's viewings determined him to pursue

That makes way more sense than I was able to tease out of it. Maybe this is why I'm bad at riddles, I don't think hard enough.

Um...a margarita with salt on the rim?
Also because I'm sure that's wrong, is this Middle-earth related?

they/them/actual hobbit in search of a merrier world
What I wouldn't give to have one of those right now. But I neither have one in real life nor does it appear in this riddle.
And yes, this is Middle-earth related. I'm sorry, I was the one asking before and then I didn't specify on my own riddle, shame on me.

Weirdly I enjoy doing a random guess when I have no idea whether it's Middle-earth related or not. Nice level ten white hat, by the way! Is it miruvor?
they/them/actual hobbit in search of a merrier world
Hey thanks! It is quite shiny. Not miruvor either...the word alcohol here is not literal.
I can never tell if people are struggling in these types of threads, or just aren't looking, so consider this both a bump and a hint: this riddle is about a location.
Is it the secret passage to Erebor? Bit of a stretch, but during the day sounds too much like Durin's Day. And we all know dwarves are basically 66 % alcohol.
