War Of The Dwarves And The Orcs - Early Morning Scrimmage

And of old it was not darksome, but full of light and splendour, as is still remembered in our songs.

She felt the mild sting of the axe coming far too close for comfort. But she had business yet with this orc. It would die. And then... Then she she would feast on dwarf meat once more

Sog felt hot tears run down his face (most likely blood). 'Something slipped,' he thought as he licked the salty blood from his lips. He knew that these birds were evil-hearted and used to spy out the lands for wicked masters, but he had never heard of them being so powerful and ferocious.

Grabbing at the bird, he tried to shove it into his mouth, which proved disastrous. The bird's black feathers were sharp like barbs, and they had a dryness that choked the orc. He bit down on the bird's wing before throwing it from him.

There had to be another way to defeat the booby bird, but Sog wasn't sure how or what that was.

The thing grabbed at her and tried to bite her fortunately it got only a mouthful of feathers for its effort and another angry peck at his face from a even angrier bird. The indignity of it all Rhafna thought to herself and wondered if her smaller equally ferocious breathren would come when she called... After all a gathering of her kind wasn't called a murder for nothing.

Donlad was hard at work in the forges when he heard the news of the battle. He merely nodded, set down his hammer, and went home to gather his things, then made his way to support his companions. Equipped with his Round-Shield, Hand Axe, Sturdy Bow, covered in his chainmail and wreaking of sot and sulfur, he was ready to smash some heads.

As he made his way down the valley.. starting on the high ground he first noticed a dark creature harassing the legged folk. He took a position in the shadow of a dense pine, nocked an arrow, and pulled the heavy bow back.
"Birds..." He said with disdain, then letting the arrow fly, "..hate em." As it released he could feel the flight was true and his bead was on... he ducked into the shadowed and darted to find a position to fire once more...

She cawwed angrily as the arrow shot by her attempting to take off her head, fortunately she was a smart and whiley bird and it did very little damage to her and seem so have in fact struck the orc that she was attacking with far more damage than it had her which honestly didn't hurt her feelings though she craned her neck about looking to see who had attacked, another dwarf it seemed. Well, she figured, that was fine, she liked dwarf meat far more than orc. Sog would be dead soon enough for his error and then... well she had choices to make then.

Some of the arrows had made contact, but few sank deep and true; mainly they seemed to anger the bear, rather than seriously harm it. Taking advantage of its distraction with the arrows that tormented it, those with axes hewed at the bears legs, the thick fur turning some of the blows, but even its thick hide could not forever withstand the might of the dwarves. With a joyous cry, Kali saw her blow sink deep into flesh, prompting a roar of pain from the enraged beast.

Indeed she was beginning to gain ground once more as she pecked and scratched furiously at the misfortune orc that had first raised her ire. It was slow for he was tough and strong but she could see him bleeding now, something that was hard to do with her. The bonus of being black feathered and covered in the blood of her victims - it was hard to see what blood was hers and just how much of it was theirs.

The bears strength was starting to flag, but despite its injuries it was still a powerful foe, and those claws were still causing havoc as the giant paws swung at the dwarves. The edge of one indeed caught Kali, her coat of rings luckily preventing too much damage, though her body ached from the force behind it. Ready to be done with this fight, her sharp whistle caught the attention of the pike-bearers nearby, and brought them into the fray and from the benefit of greater distance the pikes made quick work of sinking into the bears hide.

Another scrambling bunch of pecks and scratches with her feet taking more flesh and instilling more fear in her victim. She was a bird of singular focus, and Sog had made the mistake of taking part in this battle. He'd made the even greater mistake of attacking the crow. He could have lived a good while longer but no. He had pronounced his own doom and she would... well she wouldn't eat orc flesh it was repulsive. Her brethren would though.

The pikes had turned the tide, Kali watched with grim satisfaction as the bear started to stumble. Raising her own weapon she hewed at its great neck, as the others distracted it with brandished weapons. Dazed and confused it struggled to focus on where the biggest threat was, and Kali had enough mercy in her to know they should end this quickly. "Khazad! Bring it down!" she yelled.

'Ai!' called out Sog as his flesh was clawed and ripped by the mad bird. He no longer wished to eat it, for it was too bitter a creature to be tasty, he reasoned. He wanted to get it in his grasp so that he could pluck it feather by feather until it was bald and flightless. Maybe then it would lose some of its bitterness, and he would devour it.
But until then, he grabbed at it, shielding his eyes and hoped for a handful no less.

Donlad ran between cover and watched as a great bear endured relentless attacks from his brethren, dwarven pikemen. He thought of the bird... of the orcs, and of his brethren, having to wonder why so much effort was being focused on the bear... he liked bears... Either way, it looked nearly finished, so he continued to scan with a sour expression.

A rather maddened Orc seemed to be jumping around and swinging in the air wildly. That wicked bird no doubt. He couldn't spot the thing though, so instead he pulled back tight and aimed at the Orc... whom.. he released.. somehow already appeared to have one of his arrows sticking out of him...

A last assault they visited upon the great beast, arrows flying and blades flashing as they hewed it down. With a final, thunderous boom, the bear toppled over, body finally still. There was little time to celebrate, amidst a battle still going strong, but Kali allowed herself a brief moment of rest. For though it seemed as if the sun should have already travelled the sky and be near setting once again, it was still only early in the morning and there was much still to be completed this day. Eyes narrowing as she caught a flash of black feathers not too far away, Kali sought her next target.

Clutching only a feather or two in his claw, Sog jerked as he was hit, knocked to his knees. Looking down, he saw that he had not one but two arrows stuck in him, piercing his leather armour.
'Attacked from behind and above,' he croaked. Desperate, injured, bleeding, he grew mad. Grabbing the bird out of the air by the beak, he charged his assailant, throwing the bird at him like a spear.

Rhafna as scratched at the arm that held her beak as the orc was foolish enough to try to use her as a weapon. Like that would actually work! She let out a croaking laugh of a caw as she flapped her wings getting no were near the dwarf that the orc was after and pecked at the back of his neck to punish him for being so foolish

Sog felt the stab on the back of his neck and reached around and grabbed the foul bird from his neck before it could stab him again. It was becoming weaker, its attacks. Perhaps it was weakening. Regardless, it appeared that it had new powers, like flying backward, but Sog was not impressed. He took the bird and booted it into the air, and called out.
'Try and fly behind me now, ye black chicken!'

Donlad watched the orc grab the bird and begin to charge his way with it like a weapon. That was a double negative which Donlad did not like. But he had to chuckle, as the situation turned into a positive as the bird retaliated on the orc and it in turn punted the bird. He spotted Kali and the Pikemen, gave them an assuring nod the orc and birds direction, the pulled back once more and fired at Sog, who was shouting into the air the opposite direction. This time after letting loose, he flanked behind the other dwarves, putting them between him and the Orc/bird.

'Whoomp!' He felt something strike him, but it was not the bird. Looking down, he saw yet another arrow stuck in him.
'Stuck like a blast pig is I!' he cried miserably. Turning, he saw a beardling run for cover behind its miserable kin. Although Sog was bleeding, desperate, pecked half to death and starving, he was not foolish enough to charge a clan of beardlings. No. He would be content for now, just hurting the bird. Picking up a stone, he threw it at the black wretch, hoping his aim was true.

She flapped her wings avoiding the worst of the damage that the orc was attempting to do to her. and dove back down to orc slapping at his face with her wings hoping to take out an eye (or at he very least get some blood or feather in his eyes and slow him down since he was as focused on her as she was on him.

Donlad gave Aule praise as yet another of his arrow had struck true. From his cover he watched the orc and raven continue to go at it. He had to admit, (as much as he hated birds) this one was quite the orc hunter. He scanned for any other targets.. hating to interfere yet again with their sparring... but just then the Rhafna was retreating from one of its attacks and he had a clear shot. For a moment he thought of the steel bar in his forge he would have to rework, he used that frustration to focus in and released fire towards the bird. He didn't expect he would get too many more chances to use his bow and had to make the best of these opportunities...

The arrow grazed her and honestly if she didn't need to kill this orc... She would be very muchly making this birdplucker pay for firing wooden bits at her with bird feathers attached to them. THE AUDACITY of these featherless bipeds she squacked and dove back down to hit Sog once more still bent on ending him first. Then she would deal with these furry faced dwarves after she pecked out the life from this orcs eyes.

Velm turned just in time to see an arrow speed towards the Crebian and graze it. It faltered, and this was her chance as the bird was not high in the air yet. Rushing towards it, she threw her axe, hoping to strike two foes (the bird and the orc) at once. That bird had caused much pain among her kin.

Fury and vengeance lit her heart as she realised the flash of black feathers was the wretched and vile bird she had clashed with earlier. It seemed locked in a strange knot of combat, with an orc and a dwarf trading blows between themselves and the crebain. Another dwarf sheltered behind Kali and the pikes she had enlisted for the last battle, and his arrows too seemed focused on the bird. Clearly it infuriated all creatures it met and she was no exception. As she charged over Kali saw the beautiful axe throw that aimed for the crebain, and without seeing if it hit its target she swung her own axe hoping to at least clip its wing as it tried to dodge the blows.

The whole world seemed to be against her quite cruel really when in fact no matter what they did it would be crows that would be feasting on all the bodies left over except one that would be standing there... It might as well be the crow. Was she evil? Probably. Did it change the fact that there could only be one victor and that they would still be surrounded by other crows eating the bodies of the fallen? No. With that she went and attacked the orc once more as they continued to weaken. Soon hopefully they would be dead and she'd be able to turn her attentions elsewhere.

Velm was pleased to see arrows come from all directions aimed at the black menace in the air. She ran towards where her axe had plummeted and grabbed at it, ducking and rolling out of the way of a swing from a scimitar with a black blade.
Standing, she spread her legs in a sturdy stance and let fly her axe hope her aim was true.

Too many cooks would spoil this fight, and Kali quickly recognised that two axes in close quarters trying to strike the small target of the crebain would not work. Stooping quickly she grabbed a bow and arrows from the bodies of one of the fallen nearby. Bracing herself, she took a long slow breath as she pulled the string taught, waiting for an opening, before letting the arrow fly towards the bird and the orc, not caring who she hit.

Sog pecked so many times he looked like a kind of swiss cheese, the mouldy and red rind kind. He had blood running and caked to his face, and his armour was ripped and dragged; the bird attacked relentlessly, diving at him whilst it dodged arrows and axes even when they struck it. And those dwarves were everywhere like bearded ants. Some of his troops remained fighting on, but the beardlings seem to have the upper hand.
If he could do away with the pecking bird, maybe he would have a chance to cut some dwarf meat. He was, after all, still starving.

The arrow had only clipped the bird, but satisfaction filled Kali as she saw it damage one of the feathers. She wasn't the most skilled with a bow, but it gave her heart that she could bring down the evil crebain that had so cruelly smote down one of her kinsmen right in front of her. Pulling another arrow, she notched it carefully to the string; there was so much movement happening between the trio, not to mention the other battles close by that her arm began to shake from the strain. Letting loose the arrow she watched it curve towards the bird, but already she could tell this too would only clip its wing at best.

Well she was being attacked on two fronts now she wasn't overly pleased with that but she would make sure she took at least one of them down with her. Yes she would as she dove low and gave the orc that she had decided needed to die a good hard peck fight on the nose hoping to take it off. It didn't quite work but the orc certainly was wounded further than he had been

Kali grit her teeth as the arrow went astray. Though archery isn't her strongest skill she'd hoped that at this distance she'd have better luck. Before she could shoot again a body crashed into hers, sending her sprawling to the hard ground. As she rolled over, she could see the bird launching another attack on the orc. The crebain seemed as hardy as it was evil, how much more would it take to bring it down?

More arrows flying at her and she wasn't finished with the nasty orc yet that had offended her first. Still though she kept fighting slowly wearing down the orc one terrifying peck at a time. Blood and gore once again slowly beginning to cover her feathers even as the Dwarf that kept attacking her adding a small amount of her own blood to the mess.

Pushing quickly to her feet Kali attempted to dodge the battling pair that had almost stampeded over her. Tempting as it was to join in an easier confrontation, she wanted to at least try to injure the bird a little more. For now it seemed focused on the orc, opening up wound after wound in an attempt to finish it, but Kali was sure it would soon turn its attention to the dwarves again. Notching a new arrow, she let the shot fly towards the crebain, hoping it would slice across its body.

The arrow flew and skimmed her feathers taking a puff of them but doing no actual damage to her as she seperated herself for a moment from the orc in question so that she could get more force behind the peck that she struck at the back of the creatures neck. Indeed she could feel the beast weakening though it still had a fair bit of strength to it. She kept a murderous eye on the dwarf that was shooting at her as well as several others that had made the same mistake.

At what seemed like the last moment the bird moved, just enough that the arrow breezed past it, seeming to do little damage. Kali had no love or concern for the orc it pursued, but again she felt the disgust in watching it mercilessly attack the weakened orc. She could feel the battle raging about them, and feared it would shortly sweep over her and take her away from her target. Pulling an arrow from a nearby body, she let it fly, powered by the frustration she felt.

Another arrow and another near hit. Well it nipped at her feathers once more and she let out an angry croak of a warning to the archer, honestly the dwarves should know eventually all of them become food for worms or crows. She dipped her head once more attacking the orc again darting around to try to put the orcs head between herself and the archer continuing to torment the orc.

Saliva and blood fell from the orc's mouth. Having been pecked constantly over a short period, he was numb all over. But his face lit up with mischievous glee, a scary sight on the visage of a pecked-up orc. A dwarf and a bow were causing the fowl bird to lose some of its strength. Its attacks seemed less hurtful suddenly. Maybe Sog would be feasting on warm meat after all.

The orc seemed to fight back for a moment but Rhafna was not the sort to be disuaded by a silly nasty little orc. Yes the arrows hurt but this orc? No she wasn't going to let the orc do anything at all where it thought she was getting weaker instead she just pecked once more reminding the orc who was going to live in this case. It was not going to be the orc. Perhaps in time Rhafna would join the foul beast but not before it.

Sog felt the peck and cried out. Then in defiance, he stuck his tongue out at the bird and lopped off for cover beside a fallen body of another orc that lay dead on the ground. As he lay hidden, sucking on a festering peck to his hand, he watched the bird. It never seemed to fly too high—an indication no doubt, at least in the orc's idle mind, that the Crebian hurt. Or, was not right in the head for soaring so low amongst the combatants. As the bird flew close to where Sog lay hidden, the orc found a bag of rotten meat on his dead comrade's body and flung it at the creature.

The tongue was a beautiful target and she pecked at it trying to tear the creatures tongue but missed out as he lopped along laying down to die. The first sensible thing that the creature had done this entire fight as far as Rhafna was concerned. The rotten bag of meat was easy enough to dodge it was large and clumsy while she was swift and nimble and struck once more since the orc clearly thought he was hidden and went to take the back of his knees so that he wouldn't be able to escape.

His hiding spot was not the best. The fowl came down at him and tried to rip out his tongue. He had a face full of Crebian; it was very unpleasant. But, the bird was gone again, and he had time to wipe his face on the bloodied rag that clung to the dead orc.
He suddenly heard a low moaning sound and thought for a moment that the dead body had come back to life. But, no. The moan came again, and he realized his stomach was crying out in pain for the lack of food that the orc had not provided.
Looking about him, he saw a crooked knife lying in the mud by the body. Picking it up, he waited for the bird to come back low and in hitting sight. He needed meats!

she was not letting the orc go. He was going to suffer. no matter how long it took she was not going to give up she caught site of the knife and swooped lower on his body so that he'd need to move to get her if he did try to cut at her. She pecked at his knees again looking to take a bit of his ability to walk or run away any further.

All was messy beside the dead decaying orc, Sog's hiding place. Now is blood was drenching the ground where he hid along with the extended dried fluids of the deceased. The cruel bird had found an opening and dove at his knee. Mind you, his knobby knees were pretty thick, and the bird's beak must have cracked some. But still, now, he felt he could not stand. Curse that wretched bird. Grabbing at anything that he could hold and throw, he launched what appeared to be a soiled leather helmet.

She flapped her wings and avoided the nasty leather helmet and let out a laughing croak at the pitiful orc that seemed to think he could disuade her from taking his other knee cap even if her beak did hurt a little bit from hitting the first knee cap it wasn't so bad that she couldn't take his other knee. Of course she went to go through the side of his knee this time where there would be less protection for the joint and maybe she could take a bit of tendon with it!

She got her beak in there to the side of his knee and really dug in since the orc was already prone the vengeful bird was quite certain that the orc would not be needing the use of either one of his legs again. She pulled her head back and hopped back wondering what part of the creature she should take apart next.

Kali relished the angry croaks of the bird, hopefully she was wearing it down slowly. It's attacks on the orc had intensified, and the orc seemed to be trying to find some cover by one of the fallen. Ducking and weaving as a battling pair came too close for comfort Kali found a space she could concentrate. Hoping that she'd now have a clearer shot, she notched another arrow to the bow and let it fly straight towards the crebain.

The dwarf had returned. How annoying. There was not much to be done for it though except angrily crow at them and hoo and try to avoid the worst of the damage from their arrows wile continuing to peck at the orc. She hopped a bit higher looking to get a bit of damage to the creatures thigh. There were veins there if she could get one it would bleed out. She'd seen enough wars between orcs and dwarves to know this.

The bird could make as many awful noises as it wanted, for now Kali was locked to her target. Frustrated with her lack of skill with the bow she cast it to her feet, gaze shooting around the vicinity in the search for a better weapon. The dead bodies of two orcs slumped nearby, and she spotted the glint of metal in their hands. Sprinting across she grabbed one of the daggers, balancing her weight evenly she too a moment to aim and sent it hurtling end over end towards the crebain.

Why the dwarf thought a dagger would do that much more damage was beyond Rhafna but the crow as never one to think that dwarves had an over abundance of brains. She hopped away croaked angrily and pecked at the orcs thigh again it was getting weaker and weaker and soon would succumb to the wounds that the crow had given it during their long battle against each other. She blinked and twisted her head deciding she would make every dwarf that harmed her pay personally. Yes.

Sog had no feeling left in his legs. How could a bird be causing so much damage? It was beyond his pitiful mind to rationalize and explain. All he knew now was that if he did not fling things at the wretched creature, he would be dead. Looking about his so-called hiding place., he stripped the worn boot from the dead orcs foot and threw it at the passing bird.
