Welcome everyone in the thread all about music in every aspect!
Here you can discuss songs, genres, instruments, lyrics (also self written ones), ...
Try to talk about a few subjects at a time so people can still follow what is being discussed.

So to kick this thread off let's do a silly lyrics contest! (thanks to Li for the inspiration)
Everyone can submit a few sentences of a song already existing BUT you need to remake it into a LOTR adaptation.
I will try to put it into a poll and the funniest one wins! :smiley8:

Here is my entry:
Hoombaroom this is the sound of the enties! Hoembaroom it's the sound that I misss!

Yessss I'm so happy this is back! The song parody thread was one of my favorites on the Old Plaza! I have few ideas bouncing around my head right now for songs but I need to sit down and work them all out, so I'll probably be spamming up this thread later today. Nice work here Eruie can't wait to get started on song- writing!!

Chest always so puffed orc
I'm that bad orc
Make your mama sad orc
Make your entwife mad orc
Might seduce your dad orc

Haha Dwim, that's really good - I read the first line and knew what song it was going to be. (Also highly enjoyed the "Might seduce your dad orc" part ahah)

Given it was Eurovision yesterday...

My my
The War of the Ring saw Sauron's power ended
Oh yeah
The Witch-King met his destiny like Glorfindel did say
The Tolkien books on the shelf
We repeatedly read to ourselves

The War of the Ring, Sauron was defeated, he lost the war
The War of the Ring, promised freedom for ever more
The War of the Ring, Gollum couldn't escape doom if he wanted to
The War of the Ring, know the fate of men is to continue
Woah woah woah woah
The War of the Ring, finally sees the Return of the King

Okay, I got invested.
(Thanks to my partner for his help.)

I heard there was a lone dark lord
Whose heart grew dark and rings he forged
Men's hearts were fooled and they were all deceiv-ed
The lands grew dark
the shadows grew
Sauron sent out his Nazgûl
The baffled King wondering where his ring was
Broken lembas, broken lembas, broken lembas, broken leeeembas

So time went on and it was lost
Until a birthday with high cost
Its beauty in the river, yes it tempts us
We choked him with our own bare hands
Our friend is dead, (for Deagol stan)
And after all, why shouldn't we keep it
Broken lembas, broken lembas, broken lembas, broken leeeembas

You say there was a secret quest
The nine took on at Elrond’s behest
And home and hearth, Frodo, he left them
He's carried the Ring across middle earth
He's fallen down, He's proved his worth
And Pippin's still missing second breakfast
Broken lembas, broken lembas, broken lembas, broken leeeembas

New riddle in the dark, a hook
Watch that bloody Fool of a Took
And Gandalf told the Balrog, “You shall not pass!”
He died and then came back to life
For some reason he’s now dressed in white
Thought for certain that old man had left us
Broken lembas, broken lembas, broken lembas, broken leeeembas

Wasn’t sure if he’d take the ring, or-
OW! He did; there goes my finger
Looks like my counting skills are now one less
I guess Smeagol saved the land
But I could at least lend a hand
It’s a cold and it’s a broken piece of lembas
Broken lembas, broken lembas, broken lembas, broken leeeembas

Well maybe Manwë’s got our back
An eagle could get us on track
Could have done it sooner, saved some duress
Now we’re on ships sailing West
But some of us are left bereft
And no one ever got their second breakfast
Broken lembas, broken lembas, broken lembas, broken leeeembas

(Hallelujah, Leonard Cohen)

Hoom hom, here is an old song that I seem to recall from my youthful days striding through the world. I believe it was originally written by one of the servants of Morgoth, a vampiric spirit who sometimes took the form of a bat. Hoom hom, I don't now recall his full name but I believe his friends in the forests of old called him Ozzy...

Times have changed and times are strange
Here I come, but I ain't the same
Arda, I'm coming home
Times gone by seems to be
All my friends are coming back with me
Arda, we're coming home

You took me in and you grew my boughs
Yeah, we counseled with the wise
Lost and found we're on new ground
Now we're back for a reprise

Under the sky, we made allies
But, I don't know how to verbalize
Arda, I'm coming home
I have been right, I have been wrong
But now we're back, it's been so long
Fangorn, I'm coming home

Entwives lost yeah we're both alone
Rohan rides before the fall yeah
But I'm gonna take this ring of stone
And break down the Wizard's wall

I've seen your tress a hundred times
Everyday we've been apart
Now I just wanna walk the deep woods, yeah

'Cause mama, mama, I'm coming home
I'm coming home

You took me in and you grew my boughs
Yeah, we counseled with the wise
Lost and found we're on new ground
Now we're back for a reprise

I've seen your trees a thousand times
Every day we've been apart
Through the leaves I see some sunshine, yeah

'Cause Fangorn, Fangorn, we're coming home
We're coming home
We're coming home
We're coming home

Almost heaven, The Shire
The Four Farthings, Brandywine River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, growin' like a breeze
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
The Shire, farthings four
Take me home, country roads

@Mor Toast I recognised the song from the first line. :smiley9:

Ok, here we go. Parents, please don't kill me.

The snow glows white on Caradhras tonight
Not a horseprint to be seen
A kingdom of isolation
And Aragorn's not yet king

The wind is howling like this tormenting inside
Couldn't let Sauron in,
Gandalf knows he tried.

Don't let him in, don't let him see
Be the Ringbearer you always have to be
Conceal the Ring, don't let him know
Where you'll goooo

Here we go, here we go
Into Moria's dark walls
Here we go, here we go
Can we see at all?

Here we stand, Gandalf lights our way
Let the wind blow on
Cave trolls never bothered me anyway.

It's funny how some distance
Makes Ring Wraiths seem so small
And Sauron controlling me
Can't get to me at all

It's time to see what the Fellowship can do
We'll test our limits and break through
Is this path right, or is it wrong? No clue for me
Oh gee...

Here we go, here we go,
I am one with the One Ring,
Here we go, here we go,
I see the light of Sting

Here I'll stand, and here I'll draw
My sword out now

The Balrog storms up in the air all around
Gandalf holds the bridge, his staff on the ground
And one thought crystallizes like an icy stab:
He's not making it out, Aragorn leads us now

Here we go, here we go,
Outside Moria
Here we go, here we go,
Onto Lothlorien

Can we stand, can we stay?
Without Gandalf now,
Cave trolls always bothered me anyway.
What is a legacy?
It's planting seeds in a garden you never get to see.

Hello, hello, is this thing on?

Alright, here's a little tenuously Lord of the Rings related number, all about the Nu Plaza and hanging around here. It's very personal *sniffles dramatically* so I hope you all listen with an open heart

*tunes up a guitar, which I cannot play, but require for the aesthetic*

Just a Mirkwood Elf
Livin' in a lonely wood
He took the first horse out to Rivendell

Just a city Dwarf
Born and raised in Erebor
He took the moonlit path down to Rivendell

A strange elf clad in green and brown
A smell of leaves, beeswax, a crown
For a while they can share a fight
That goes on, and on, and on, and on

Orcs a-waiting
Deep within Khazad-dûm
Fire and shadow making them fleeeeeee

Uruk-hai fighters
Created just to kill the good guys
Lurking all round Helm's Deeeeeeeeep

Fighting hard to get his kills
Legolas just wants to win
Killin' anything to beat the Dwarf
With one more death

One will win, one will lose
Gimli thinks he knows the rules
And he's got the upper hand -
It goes on and on, and on, and on

Pals to-gether
Over hill and under dale
Friendship forged in the Golden Wooooooood

Rohan, Gondor
Witnessed a most rare occurrence
Dwarf and Elf in perfect concorrrrrrrd

Don't stop the fightin'
You've unleashed the lightning
Watch out, Sauro-o-on!

These two ain't alone
Have you heard of Isildur's grandson?
Watch out, Sauro-o-on!
The Wood-elves lingered in the twilight of our Sun and Moon, but loved best the stars.

And now it's time for Silly Songs with Ducky, the part of the show where Ducky comes out and sings a silly song.

The Hobbits who don't do anything (chorus and verse 1-2)

We are the Hobbits who don't do anything
We just stay home and lie around
And if you ask us to do anything, we'll just tell you
We don't do anything!

Well, I've never been to Mirkwood
And I've never been to Gondor
And I've never been a-feasting in West or Eastemnet
And I've never been to Mordor
And I've never been to Harad
And I've never been to Beorn in his hut.

We are the Hobbits who don't do anything
We just stay home and lie around
And if you ask us to do anything, we'll just tell you
We don't do anything!

And I've never stoked a fire
And I've never climbed a mountain
And I've never buried treasure
'Cause I never treasure get

And I've never fought a goblin
And I've never braved the Marshes
And I've never been to Beorn in his hut.

Cause we're the Hobbits who don't do anything
We just stay home and lie around
And if you ask us to do anything, we'll just tell you
We don't do anything!

I present to thee all, "Aragorn, Son of Arathorn" (a somewhat original)
How does a ranger, orphan, son of Gilraen
And Arathorn, dropped in the middle of a homely house
In Rivendell by Elrond Half-Elven
Grow up to be a legend and a monarch?

Broken sword-bearer, hunter without a father
Got a lot farther by working a lot harder
By leading Dúnedain a lot smarter
Meeting Hobbits in Bree at Butterbur's

And everyday while Elves were leaving and departing
Across the waves, he struggled but kept his guard up
Inside, he was longing for Gondor to be a part of
The ranger was ready to fend, fight, guide and be a leader

Then the Nazgûl came, and devastation reigned
Our man saw Frodo's life drip, dripping down the drain
Put some athelas to his hands, it clicked in his brain
If he was a healer, then he'd be sure to reign

Well the Council got around, Boromir said "this ranger is insane, man"
But he vowed to follow Frodo and the Fellowship to the dark lands
Complete the quest, don't forget from whence you came
And Middle-earth's gonna know your name
What's your name, man?

"Aragorn, son of Arathorn.
My name is Aragorn, son of Arathorn,
And there's a million things I haven't done
But just you wait, just you wait."

When he was two, his father's shot, full of Orc arrow
Seventy plus years later, Gilraen's near dead,
Giving him hope, hoping not for herself
And Aragorn grew better, but his mother went quick

Moved on with the Fellowship, then their leader Gandalf died
Left him with nothing but kindred's pride, something new inside,
A voice saying "Strider, you gotta lead them yourself"

He started leadin', and readin' all Lothlorien's book shelf

There would've been nothing left to do for a ranger less astute
They would've been dead or destitute without a sense of resolution
Started hoping, praying in Galadriel's wisdom
Remembering younger days there, looking forward to his kingdom
Plannin' for his future, see him now as he stands on the bow of a boat heading for his home land
In Gondor you can be a new man

In Gondor you can be a new man (Just you wait)
In Gondor you can be a new man (Just you wait)
In Gondor you can be a new man (Just you wait)
In Gondor
Just you wait

Aragorn, son of Arathorn
(Aragorn, son of Arathorn)

We are waiting in the wings for you
You could never back down
You patiently wait your time

Aragorn, son of Arathorn
When Middle-earth sings for you
Will they know what you overcame?
Will they know you rewrote your game?
The world will never be the same

The corsairs' in the harbour now,
See if you can spot him
Another Dúnadan, comin' up from the bottom
Denethor destroyed his rep, Gondor forgot him

Legolas and Gimili:We fought with him
Boromir: Me, I died for him
Frodo: Me, I trusted him
Arwen:Me, I loved him
Gollum:And me? I'm the damn fool that bit him.

There's a million things he hasn't done
But just you wait

What's your name, man?

Aragorn, son of Arathorn
What is a legacy?
It's planting seeds in a garden you never get to see.

Now I need to get my brain working and see if can come up with a parody to share here.

I regret making this already, but here is (part of) "Break up with the Council, I'm bored", by Sauron
You got me some type of way (Hmm)
Ain't used to feelin' this way (Mmm-mmm)
I do not know what to say (Yeah, yeah)
But I know that we should be Two Towers

Took one look at my Palantir (Hmm)
Now I wanna know how you breed (Uruk-hai)
Usually don't give it away (Yeah, yeah)
But you know I'm out here thinkin' 'bout it

Then I realize the Council's there
And I'm in Barad-dur like, "This ain't fair"

Break up with your Council
Yeah, yeah, 'cause I'm bored
You could trap Mithrandir ('randir)
Yeah, yeah, like he's yours
I know it ain't right
But I don't care (Care)
Break up with your Council
Yeah, yeah, 'cause I'm bored

I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed "Broken lembas". That was fantastic.

When a similar thread to this was in Rohan on the old Plaza, I wrote this one but I'm not sure I ever posted it. But I still had it saved in a long forgotten folder on my laptop. So without further ado, I give you "Kiss Me, I'm Kingly" by Aragorn. Inspired by when Galadriel dressed him up before he met Arwen in Lothlorien.

I’m of Dunedain kind,
I’m the best that you’ll find.
I protect folk between here and the Sea.
My fighting skills are ace,
There’s no foe I can’t face.
All other Rangers wish they were me.

But Arwen, my dear,
You’ve no need to fear.
You’ll not marry beneath your rank.
I’m destined for more.
We’ll live in splendour
In the city seen from Anduin’s bank.

So kiss me, I’m kingly.
I’m smooth and shaven and clean
By Galadriel. So kiss me
And I shall make you a Queen.

I’m a Man of the Wild,
Ever since I was a child.
No sword could now break my bones.
Say you’ll be mine and
I’ll escort you home,
To that city built just from white stones.

I’m descended from Kings
That lived in the West
On an island that sank below the tide.
I’ll bring back the glory
For song and for story
And a dark haired beauty by my side.

So kiss me, I’m kingly.
I’m smooth and shaven and clean
By Galadriel. So kiss me
And I shall make you a Queen.

Oh forget it, who am I kidding?

I’m a pitiful sight.
My destiny gives me much fright.
I don’t want a crown on my head.
There’s a Dark Lord next door
In that dark land of Mordor
Who would much rather render me dead.

But just give me a chance
‘Cause now I have seen
That the woods will not be my home.
I’m gonna show your Ada
Victory isn’t that far
And I can take the Gondorian throne.

So kiss me, I’m kingly.
I’m smooth and shaven and clean
By Galadriel. So kiss me
And I shall make you a Queen.

Oh man, someone call up Viggo Mortensen now and get him to sing this!

With a toddler on my lap, I'm inspired to adapt a children's song:

March, march, march the Ring
Down the Andu-een!
Secretly, secretly, secretly, secretly
Hear the Nazgul scream!

In the spirit of Duck's children's song...

Round and round the weary old ent
the Hobbits chased the orc-runt
the Dwarf cried out: Baruk Khazad
OFF! goes an orc head
In the deeps of Time, amidst the Innumerable Stars

When you walk to Mount Doom
Watch out for The Eye
And don't be afraid of the dark

At the end of the day
You'll have Sam by your side
And though the One Ring will leave its mark

Walk on through Lorien
Walk on 'cross the Dead Marsh plain
Though you tire and wish for home

Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
For you do not walk alone

You'll never walk alone

Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
For you'll never walk alone

Bit of a collab effort here, but I'm too lazy to tag everyone that worked on it. I present the 12 Days of Durin:

On the first day of Durin my true love gave to me
One Ring to rule them all!

On the second day of Durin my true love gave to me
Two allied Towers, and One Ring to rule them all!

On the third day of Durin my true love gave to me
Three Silmarils, two allied Towers, and One Ring to rule them all!

On the fourth day of Durin my true love gave to me
Four Shire Farthings, three Silmarils, two allied Towers, and One Ring to rule them all!

On the fifth day of Durin my true love gave to me
FIVE ISTARI
Four Shire Farthings, three Silmarils, two allied Towers, and One Ring to rule them all!

On the sixth day of Durin my true love gave to me
Six Elven seasons
FIVE ISTARI
Four Shire Farthings, three Silmarils, two allied Towers, and One Ring to rule them all!

On the seventh day of Durin my true love gave to me
Seven Palantiri, six Elven seasons
FIVE ISTARI
Four Shire Farthings, three Silmarils, two allied Towers, and One Ring to rule them all!

On the eighth day of Durin my true love gave to me
Eight surviving members, seven Palantiri, six Elven seasons
FIVE ISTARI
Four Shire Farthings, three Silmarils, two allied Towers, and One Ring to rule them all!

On the ninth day of Durin my true love gave to me
Nine flying Ringwraiths, eight surviving members, seven Palantiri, six Elven seasons
FIVE ISTARI
Four Shire Farthings, three Silmarils, two allied Towers, and One Ring to rule them all!

On the tenth day of Durin my true love gave to me
Ten hobbits piping, nine flying Ringwraiths, eight surviving members, seven Palantiri, six Elven seasons
FIVE ISTARI
Four Shire Farthings, three Silmarils, two allied Towers, and One Ring to rule them all!

On the eleventh day of Durin my true love gave to me
Eleven Elves a-laughing, ten hobbits piping, nine flying Ringwraiths, eight surviving members, seven Palantiri, six Elven seasons
FIVE ISTARI
Four Shire Farthings, three Silmarils, two allied Towers, and One Ring to rule them all!

On the twelvth day of Durin my true love gave to me

In keeping tune (pun intended) with the children's songs paradies:

Bilbo had a golden ring, golden ring, golden ring
Bilbo had a golden ring, its shine was bright as flame

And everywhere that Bilbo went, Bilbo went, Bilbo went,
Everywhere that Bilbo went, the Ring was sure to go

He took it to his big birthday, big birthday, big birthday,
He took it to his big birthday, and put on quite a show.

He disappeared into a spark, into a spark, into a spark,
He disappeared into a spark and left it to Frodo.

Now Frodo has a golden ring, golden ring, golden ring,
Now Frodo has a golden ring, wait where did he go?
What is a legacy?
It's planting seeds in a garden you never get to see.

Great stuff everyone! I love the parodies of kids songs (particularly the Veggie Tales ones). Now that I'm a High Ent Elder, I should probably write a Pink Floyd song parody or one for Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds...

In honor of @Dimcairien Luiniel and her many nickname-ish ways to say her name:

Dim Dimikins, Dim Dimikins, Dim Dim Dimmy
An elf is as joyful as joyful can be
Dim Dimikins, Dim Dimikins, Dim Dim Dimcair
You lived in Lorien with long elven hair
Oh give me three strands, and that gift is fair!

Now as the nuPlaza site has returned
You may think that Dimcair has real life spurned
Though she spends her time making plans sly and slick
In this ol' wide world, there's no sneakier trick

Dim Dimikins, Dim Dimikins, Dim Dim Dimmy
A minion's as bright red as Mordor can be
Dim Dimikins, Dim Dimikins, Dim Dim Cairwen
You shipped off to Mordor to play as Zaram

I've chosen this, of all moments, to come in here and read that song, Ducky. Just when I was all ready to put the phone down and sleep... and now I've gone and got some strange version of Dick Van Dyke singing 'Dim Dimikins, Dim Dimikins, Dim Dim Dimmy' stuck in my head.

Ah well, at least it's cheerful  .

You're welcome!

I'm going to cross-post my hoppit song from the darts game, in honor of that now-deceased NPC Dodo. We knew him, a hoppit of infinite jest.

Shot through the heart
It's all part of the game we call darts

Would you be content to see me crying
After all those little darts you put through me
After all I've asked from you you're tossing
Wouldn't it be nice to give some food

Didn't somebody somewhere say
You're gonna take a fall
I gave you pleading cries
Now here's the curtain call

And I'm shot through the heart as I lay there stricken
On the wall through the heart
It's all part of this game that we call darts

Now you've come back here to take your aim
I just don't know why you're stalking me
It could be the hobbit I always was, Gwai
I've grown out and now I'm hanging up
Drooping there just a fat hobbit
With nowhere left to turn
You were gonna give the hobbit food
But you never learn

That I'm shot through the heart as I hang there alone
In the pub through the heart
It's all part of this game that we call darts

Hanging there just a pierced lump
With nowhere left to turn
You were gonna give the hobbit food
But you never learn?
Now Dodo's shot

Rohir does what Rohir please
And hobbit must have food he sees
But not this time, the tables turned
And hobbit, you just got burned

Shot through the heart as I hang there alone
In the pub through the heart
It's all part of this game that we call
Shot through the heart as I hang there alone
In the pub through the heart
It's all part of this game that we call
Shot through the heart as I hang there alone
In the pub through the heart
It's all part of this game that we call darts
Shot, shot, shot
Shot, shot, shot
Shot, shot, shot
