IK Racing Season 1 Race 3

For Fangorn is old, old even as the Elves would reckon it.

Inside the great black ring wall of Orthanc a course has been laid, the salted pork has been set out, aand the Old Toby has been raided from the stores for many to enjoy while they watch the racers from across Middle-earth battle it out for a place in the Championship race. Thus far two champion have secured their spots by skill and luck.

There were many great rows of crates, each row a different size, and flagged with different colours, with the names of the kingdom over them. There was quite a ruckus in a few of them as some of the animals knew it was time to race and they were quite excited, others were lazy lumps and fast asleep. All of the crates held animals that any person might use to race for that particular kingdom should they not have their own.

Imladris crates hold hedgehogs and are posted under the colour #408080 (Teal)

Lothlorien crates hold foxes and are posted under the colour #00BFFF (Light Blue)

Khazad Dum crates hold badgers and are posted under the colour #FF40FF (Bright Foo Pink)

Gondor crates hold skunks and are posted under the colour BLACK (No colour code required)

Rohan crates hold raccoons and are posted under the colour #00BF00 (Light Green)

Shire crates hold coneys and are posted under the colour #800080 (Purple)

Fangorn crates hold squirrels and are posted under the colour #008000 (Green)

Isengard crates hold rats (of ususal size) and are posted under the colour #0040FF (Royal Blue)

Mordor crates hold snakes and are posted under the colour #800000 (Dark Red)

Someone has climbed up Orthanc itself and is standing on the balcony so that all can hear the announcements of the race clearly.

"We invite all racers to chose whichever kingdom they would like to participate as, but please only participate for ONE kingdom, all of our major announcements for the race will be made over this channel. (#FF0000 - BRIGHT RED)
And if you have any questions please visit the race announcing booth and ask!

Afird Splitax and Olfat

Afird had finally managed to get Olfat out of his crate. Mind you, the badger was just as well behaved as some of the other racers (Dragon being one) and didn't need to be crated but, he had grown heavy and slothful over the years due to a lack of activity ( and too many worms and grubs and the badger keeper's pies) and enjoyed being lugged around in the crate. Afird's plan was to put an end to this. The dwarf had heard that there was prize money to be had (although this may have been a rumor). He enjoyed a challenge. And Olfat was certainly a challenge. He and some of his fellow dwarves had put a fair amount of coin into the challenge and were determined to see the heavy badger to the finish line.

Having sent the four young dwarves (who had helped carry the robust badger to the race track) home with a good bit of coin in their pockets for their effort, he then sat with his back on the crate and had himself a rest. Soon it would be racing time and he needed all his energy just to get Olfat on the track for one thing and then get the slacker racing.

A roll please..

And we have a wonderful start, even it is a bit slow I don't know if I want to see a lot of momentum behind that particular badger unless there was a very very long incline it was trying to go up...but even then it would eventually be coming down again!

Now most badger can consume several hundred worms in a night (but being omnivorous, they will eat almost anything, from flesh and fruit to bulbs and birds' eggs). Also, they are mostly nocturnal but will be seen in the daytime in remote areas far from humans. For these reasons, Afird was pleased to see the cart that was making its way to the racing area. Two of the dwarves (Alf and Duf) he had sent away had now returned with provisions that he had ordered before making his way to Insengard. Turning to look at the progress Olfat was making - he had gone about a hundred feet then plopped down on the track for a rest - the dwarf rubbed his hands together in anticipation. He then greeted his fellow dwarves and opened one of the boxes.........

A roll please..

.....but before he even looked inside the box, it suddenly dawn on him (because of his excitement over maybe earning some coin it hadn't) that he and his fellow dwarves (Alf and Duf) and Olfat (and the announcer) were the only ones at the race. Where were the SNAKES and CONEYS? Where were the RATS, SKUNKS and SQUIRRELY'S? Hadn't Drifa told him that there were even those four legged cunning, FOXES??
Scratching his beard, he looked at the two other dwarves, but hey just shrugged their shoulders and stuck out their hands for payment due. Digging deeper into his pocket now, he brought out some coin and dropped it into their hands. They bowed low and hightailed it back to the Mountain. Afird and Olfat were alone once more. Looking around one last time before investigating the box, he shrugged his shoulders in a similar fashion to his departed kin. Surely, he thought, there was someone in Middle-earth that had something to race with. He had heard that the large SNAILS in Erebor were pretty quick. He had even heard that there were CATS in Gondor who liked to race. And DOGS trained by a certain Hobbit that could run one, although, they were quite distracted by the word mushroom.
Looking at Olfat asleep on the track, he took his time gazing into the box. His dreams of winning it big just seemed to get smaller.

A roll please

Afird watched as Olfat stretched and rolled about. The hefty badger then got up on his pudgy fours and began to waddle down the track, yawning and stretching all the while. Afird snorted and turned back to the box. He wasn't as enthusiastic about its contents as he had been earlier. His hopes had waned somewhat. But the sun rose everyday and there was always hope. He would get to the box soon or later. For now he just sat back and admired the tower.

A and B roll please

When in doubt, salted pork is always a great option to bribe carnivores and omnivores. This message has not been brought to you at all by the Dwarves for Preserved Pig.

@Drifa as Afird with Olfat (1 A roll, 1 Broll 1, 20) +1, +10 Your racer finds a palantir and catches a glimps of a short cut on the race where does this short cut lead your racer?

There was a flash of light. Then Olfat was off, lumbering at a fairly quick pace through a grove of trees and off the track. Afird looked up from his examination of the contents of the box, and raised an eyebrow. Not sure what had caused the badger to veer off, he got up and followed. He didn't have to hurry really- even at a quick pace, the creatures was still lumbering.
Coming out of the trees, he could see Olfat beside a barrel with it's lid broken off. The area looked "as if there had been a sudden flood, wide pools of water lay beside the road, filling the hollows, and rills went trickling down among the stones" . Making his way towards the badger, he could see that the creature was stuffing his mouth. As he neared, he could also see these words written on the barrel: SALT PORK.
Grinning from ear to ear, the dwarf couldn't help but laugh. What ever had prompted the badger to take a shortcut knew the creatures weakness for food, that was for sure. Or else it was distraction to slow him down, although, at this point Olfat could probably crawl and still win the race with the amount of competition he had to face....
