I'm separating this out from the Kingdom Ruler Icons thread, since I'm/we're beginning to get a handle on that thread.

Since I was not at all active during the regions' period (yeah, I logged in and posted every other ... year :googly:) I have very little knowledge or understanding of the whole regions thing. This part of the plaza's history is therefore quite hard for me to parse, since it's like trying to understand Chinese using the Rosetta stone. (Okay, it ain't that bad, but still.)

KEY
This colour for 1st regions rulers, beginning in Dec 2009.

I am not entirely sure when the changeover from kingdoms to regions happened - late 2009? And I am not sure when (apparently Apr 2016) the membership 'voted' for no more rulers, since everyone became an admin and no more rulers were appointed, but I assume that the introduction of Mayors will enlighten us on that event. This thread will therefore need to link closely with that one.

So anyway this info is probably a huge mess, since I am assuming locations for ranks according to guesswork, and I am not really inspired by it; if someone wants to take it on (or take on an area and clean it up) ... please do so!

The election that promoted the two active rulers (Pele and Aig) to admins was early 2016. The mayor system was introduced shortly thereafter, with the first round being announced in April of that year, I believe.

I think Gh0st! was one of Dwim's monikers.

Thank you, @Lirimaer :winkkiss: ! I'll use that icon as Elrond before the baking contest ends. Ah, I loved being Ulmo for the brief time I was an Admin.

@Silmarë That makes sense! I gotta admit, I do detest the name changers when doing this sort of thing.

@Lirimaer I was Eomer from 2010 - 2011. I believe Rowena was W12 Saruman, I don't recognize the other one at all, but she can confirm that better than I can. @Widfara was Orome only I'm pretty sure. She went from member to admin.

@Lirimaer I was never a ruler, but can but if memory serves, Aisil, Dwim, and Dincairwen all had those icons. And yes, I do think Gh0st was Dwim.

My memory is terrible.. my first mayor term was indeed as Boromir with Morwen as Aragorn and Rior as Balrog. And I think I was Mayor for longer than the initial term, but... ? Lol

Also I think my Boromir icon was the "one does not simply" one... hmm..

Ahh, this thread is for that period between the kingdoms and the mayors when there were rulers of the different regions. We have a separate thread for Mayors and indeed your Boromir is the memeking.

I shall tidy this up somewhat and take out the mayors as they come to light. (I said it was a mess, no?)

No probs, Nerwen - I am mostly concerned about the 50 million people wearing every single Thranduil icon.

Nothing wrong with being picky.

@Lirimaer Iirc, all ruler icons for the region changeover were prepared in advance by the same artist with a similar artistic style, so any ruler who was ruling during the live switchover will have had a brand new icon go live at the same time as regions.

For this reason I can be confident R7 was my region icon that went live as soon as Regions did and, at least for me, wasn’t a cross-over. I know I had an icon pre-regions that I don’t think has been found yet, and I’m a little hazy on my ruling dates so I’ll have to think about that.

Okay so ... all the rulers active at changeover had an old ruler icon and a new regions icon? That's a lot of icons.

Incidentally when did regions 'go live' as it were? This might help me.

Alla, if you were R7 - does that mean Shiva kept your icon when she ruled?

@Lirimaer I also had a Ent icon at first... Oh shoot who was it? Until I was forced to take a Saruman icon. I never held W12 -- Weirdly I don't remember W13 being my icon but I suppose it must have been. That period of time is a blur.

Also what Shiv said is true. Wid went from member to admin. And no I do not believe she had the same icon post regions. We were asked to pick our own images for our ruler icons. I could be wrong though and that might have been something specific to me due to the circumstances of which I became a ruler.

@Rowena Ellenweorc I'll log you in as W13 for now. If you have a flash of memory, let me know. I'd appreciate it if you can give me a time frame for being an ent ruler, too. This sounds like it brings up bad memories for you though, so tread carefully. :smooch:

Widfara is in the Admin/Maia thread as going from Maia to Admin in Oct 2010. When do you think she got a new icon/what was it? Or were you talking about Shiva? I'm confused.

@Allafyrefleorhtlig What was your icon before regions?

@Lirimaer Region switchover was around November/December 2009 if I recall correctly. Does anyone else have specifics on that date?

And I don't know if you've already found these links or not, but they might be useful to have. Unfortunately, Wilderland's is the only one that does not open. The rank icons shown in the OPs are the earlier versions, and I think everywhere but Shadowlands eventually got new ones.

Shadowed Lands
https://web.archive.org/web/20100202103 ... nds-region

This all being said, does anyone have the various Rank names for Wilderland? The "New Ranks" page opened for all the kingdoms except for Wilderland. I have all the Durin's Door icons (and a good chunk of the bird ones), but am trying to get a list of the rank names.

@Dimcairien Luiniel I am tempted to suggest that you to make a new thread for kingdom/region ranks!

Thanks for the links though - the ruler list is useful. What a pita the Wilderland ones do not open!

I am going to assume, based on these threads, that the region changeover happened on 3rd Dec 2009!

I am happy to go and make that thread later today. We are wearing all the original kingdom icons, so it might be nice to pull together the region ones if we ever desire to have them for something. Plus, it is a piece of our history, even though it might be contested history.

We shall have to write the history we want!

We also have the (incomplete?) previous set from original plaza ... Jan 2002 some of which have been put in the Icon Workshop thread. And originally they only went up to 13, then 15.

Plus the wizard icons which are not being used currently.

Old old plaza Kingdom icons can be another thread. And then perhaps there should be a final pinned thread that links all of these various history project threads so they don't get buried deep within CoLP.

I'm just annoyed there isn't an accessible "Ranks and Privileges" page for the Regions. Or at least if there is one, I haven't been able to find it yet.

That was my understanding; it was certainly true of us four who became the first rulers of Western Mountains, which was @Shivased, @Nia, @Sovielus and I.
Lirimaer wrote:Incidentally when did regions 'go live' as it were? This might help me.
Dates are exceedingly fuzzy for me but I’ll give it some thought, or maybe have a poke through Wayback machine. @Lirimaer has me down as ruler in 2009 in the Rohirric Archives thread and I trust her and her team of helpers to have collated better info than I.
Lirimaer wrote:Alla, if you were R7 - does that mean Shiva kept your icon when she ruled?
I don’t know, I have a feeling I became Theoden and she became Eomer at some point but it’s all very hazy.
Lirimaer wrote:What was your icon before regions?
I have a bad feeling that the old ruler icons were actually deleted from the pre-regions plaza to make space for the new icons, which makes me dread that my ruler icon before regions isn’t findable. I haven’t been able to locate it on any of the Wayback machines, there is just the little red x of doom.

As I said in the Kingdom Ruler icon thread(just had to go back there to find it again) I’m pretty certain my Kingdom ruler icon originated with the below image, which was then tweaked and edited by some lovely artsy person in Valinor to become my Kingdom Ruler icon.

Image

I am sad to say it, but I don’t think my kingdom ruler icon exists on the internet any more. At least nowhere anyone has found yet

I’m only confident of my post-region ruler icon because I have a screengrab:-

Judging by the wonky eyeline in that grab, I feel confident you were R7! Huzzah! I do feel your own pic ought to have been used, though!!

Also, boo  to deletion. :headshake:

Like @Allafyrefleorhtlig the dates for the changeover are fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure it was sometime in 2009.

I think I was the only ruler who transitioned to regions who DIDN'T have a new icon. I chose to keep my Eowyn one.

You’re right, I meant @Lailorn! My head got all confuzzled trying to manage quotes.

I was quite happy to have a new icon for Regions, but I did love my old Eomer. He was so pretty! Just sad I haven’t been able to find him anywhere

Also, I just found my post in that wonderful Hall of Honour thread and I can clearly see that on there I said I was ruler from February 2009 onwards. Iirc I think I either just about managed a year of being ruler, or stepped down before my year anniversary, so I probably ruled until around January 2010, maybe a little longer. Regions will have gone live during that period, likely around November/December 2009.

Oh I've been summoned! Don't worry, Alla, there has historically been much confusion over the many "L" names about the Plaza... I did my best with the ruler dates, but I don't think it'll ever be 100% accurate.

Just wanted you to get credit for your awesome work @Lailorn

And once again thanks to Lail’s work, I had a browse through some old cavalry threads and found a thread where I as ruler directly refer to transferring posts from Kingdom threads into Region threads! So we can pin down the date for the switchover to right at the end of 2009; if I remember rightly it was about a month before Christmas as they hoped it would be a ‘fun’ early present for people to play with over Christmas (for many it wasn’t).

The date of the switchover IS quite tricky, but there are some pretty tight bounds we can put on it. The following evidence helps:

1) The archives last capture of the kingdoms is December 1st.
2) The archives of the forums at large on December 6th are weird, neither regions nor kingdoms appear.
3) The archives on December 13th display regions.
4) The earliest threads posted in regions are on November 29th, all by rulers who were presumably preparing threads in advance so that the new forum wouldn't be empty.
5) The earliest posts I can find from non-rulers (or at least people I think were non-rulers) are December 3rd.

Now there are some threads that look to contradict this, but I chalk that up to posts being transferred directly from kingdoms to the regions, which I think preserves the original kingdom post date.
Edit: I should hasten to add, as an afterthought, that I did not consider timezones. What was December 3rd for some may very well have been the 4th for others, particularly the if the region opening took place at midnight from a particular timezone.

You are a whizz.

I shall stick with Dec 3rd, for the official opening to all and shall not worry about timezones. The archive saves plaza time anyway, and that's good enough.

FIMBRETHIL!!!!!!!!! That's who my other ruler icon was. (And actually I have no issue with my Ent Icon. It's the saruman one I hated LOL) I can't remember how long I actually wore it for though. I think it actually was a shorter time than I'm remembering which may make putting it up there a moot point.

And yes, I meant straight from member to Maia for Widfara. No ruler icon, thus agreement with Shiva.

So, honestly, I can't remember the year too well, but I think it was 2014, but I remember the date, it was the 13th of February. It was also the same day my mother came home with a cancer diagnosis (she's still doing fine, all these years later, in remission) but I remember delving in even deeper with the Plaza afterward. I remember that my company shipped me across the country in early 2015 and unfortunately took all of my time, and @Beliowen was resident admin was gracious enough to step in.

L9 was my icon when I had it.

@Lirimaer, in relation to your question addressed to Thranduils, I can only speak for myself. O4 (Ides' old icon) was my first Thranduil icon of choice after I changed from Dain Ironfoot. I wore O4 for a significant amount of time well into 2012. Then some time before the first Hobbit movie was released in 2012 I had icon O10 made for me.

Edit: Also in your timeline, Baingil should be after me, but unfortunately I don't know the dates.

No worries! Sorry that I'm giving you information in bits and pieces, but I also found that @Dincairwen resigned on 9th Jan 2013.

Do not apologise! It's actually easier for me to update this way!

Former Regions people, I've updated the OP. Is it looking accurate?

I realize this is nearly two years too late but:

Denethor - Rómeran - (Jan-Jul 10 )(2010-01-12 - 2010-07-28)
Denethor – Beor (2010)

Are both me.

At some point I changed my name to Beor. I don't remember when, it appears to be around when I was Denethor and Beor was the name I had when I stepped down.
