Imagine this: you are an occult detective, world famous for your ability to solve problems of the supernatural, the paranormal, the metaphysical. You aren't the kind of detective people hire to follow cheating spouses, you're the one they hire to exorcise demons, fight off werewolves, and banish faeries back to the Otherworld. Lately, you've noticed signs there there is something more sinister afoot. Random events have been occurring all over the world, earthquakes in New England, stormless lightning strikes in Prague, a rash of suicides amongst the artisans of London. What is going on? The more you investigate, the more you realize something very, very bad is about to happen...

There are cults all over the world, cults whose sole reason to exist is to bring about the end, to bring their eldritch masters screaming into the world and bring about an age of annihilation even John of Patmos could not foresee. But what cult is acting? And where are they conducting their ritual? And what horrifying book are they using to attempt to end the world? Find out quickly, or life as we know it is about to become very, very different.

To save the world you must find
The Cult
The Ritual Site
The Eldritch Tome

Investigate from these options

Possible Cults
Cthulhu, Azathoth, Nyarlathotep, Yog-Sothoth, Shub-Niggurath, Hastur, Yig, Tsathoggua, The Colour, Old Leech, Yidhra, Ghatanothoa

Possible Ritual Sites
Arkham, Mass, Innsmouth, Mass, Dunwich, Mass, Kingsport, Mass, Salem, Mass, Providence, RI, Hill House, VT, Gilead, NJ, Sesque Valley, PNW, Derry, ME, Little Tall Island, ME, The Black Ram Lodge, WA

Possible Eldritch Tomes
The Necronomicon, Die Unaussprechliche Kulten, De Vermis Mysteriis, Morderor de Caliginis, The King in Yellow, Cultes des Goules, Liber Ivonis, The Green Book, Ex Altiora, Dhol Chants, Pnakotic Manuscripts, The Bone Turner’s Tale

How it Works
1. Investigate possible cult activity using one of the options from each category above
2. To win the round, you must correctly select the cult, the ritual site, and the eldritch tome
3. Anyone can join at anytime
4. You may select the same combination as another player
5. The genre savvy might have a leg up, so read up on your creepy lore
6. Important! With each round of incorrect answers, the world gets a little more dangerous, randomly I'll assign a prompt for an investigator to play out in their next post, if no one finds the correct combination in 8 rounds, the cult summons their master upon a hapless world, ending the game

All cults, locations, and tomes are taken from H.P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Robert E. Howard, Robert Bloch, Laird Barron, Shirley Jackson, W.H. Pugmire, Stephen King, The Magnus Archives, Robert W. Chambers, and T.E.D. Klein

Sam Winchester and Eileen Leahy were hoping their youngest child, Lisa (named after a former flame of Sam's late brother, Dean), would steer clear of the hunting game, but since there seemed to be trouble brewing and nobody else available at the time, they agreed to it this one time (though Sam knew that if Lisa was anything like her late uncle, she wouldn't be giving it up anytime soon. Even her brother, Dean, already had the mark that would protect you from being possessed, even though Lisa herself didn't have it yet).

Lisa Winchester didn't resemble much of her hunter family, so she often wondered if she was adopted. Her parents denied this, but then again, where did her flaming red hair come from, since both her parents had dark hair? Maybe way back in the Winchester clan, somebody had flaming red hair.

Now it seemed, she was sent to Salem, Mass. to investigate some kind of cult going on, since there had been some strange goings on in the world, including earthquakes in New England, which didn't usually occur. Hurricanes, yes, but earthquakes were pretty rare in the region. "Earthquakes in New England? That's a first." the young hunter thought to herself as she checked herself into the cheapest hotel. It was a little run down, but it would have to do, since it wasn't like she was taking up permanent resisdence here, or at least she hoped not.

Wandering around town, the youngest Winchester came across what looked like some kind of book in the middle of the alley she was searching in and wondered if this was one of the cultist's various tomes. It was known as The King in Yellow. "What an odd name, since it doesn't look very yellow to me." It seemed to be the tome of the cult known as Hastur. "The plot thickens." the youngest Winchester thought to herself, wondering just how she would put an end to this madness.

The Three Brothers were always looking to summon an Eldritch horror, or was it always looking to become an Eldritch horror? Reginald probably was one of those to birds already. Perhaps if they could find the cults and sites and tomes they'd be able to become one of the Eldritch horror. If the tome for them was written in Raccoon goodness knows what sort of uncanny unholiness the humans would bring into being trying to pronounce their words with their sad little voice boxes. Pitiful creatures.

They weren't sure who or what they were looking for but they did decide that Gilead, NJ was where they were going to look and of course they had to be looking for Cthulhu's cult... He was the most elderly of the elder things that they knew of. Not that they knew a lot. Nor did they overly care, but they did start looking for the Necronomicon. If they could find those things all together perhaps they would be able to ask Cthulhu to make them eldritch horrors.

The Eldritch Tome HAS been found

@Raisins, whilst wandering through Gilead, the three raccoons are approached by a squamous looking Deep One and offered a nugget of strange and incandescent gold. If they take it, they can become wealthy beyond your imagination, but they also must take the three oaths of Dagon. What do they do?

The Three brothers were certain that they had found the tome that they were looking for, though they hadn't seemed to have found anything else at all which was disappointing. They had formed up into a small raccoon huddle to discuss where they would look and for which cult next when they heard a wet slapping of something that was rather fishy smelling behind them. They turned about their beady eyes fixing on the walking fish as he offered some strange rock. Bob and Hob were both suspicious and Reginald almost snatched the nugget but his brothers stopped him. Knowing full well that the oaths of Dagon were not something they wanted to do. After all they were not going to be serving the Deep Ones... They wanted to become Old Ones of immense horror and power one couldn't do that going all willy nilly and letting the Dagon have their services or their bloodline. No. That would absolutely not do. Hob and Bob puffed up as big as they could bore their teeth and advanced upon the Dagon refusing this... gift as it were knowing far better than Reginald did in these matters. Of course once his brothers puffed up Reginald being the largest of the three raccoons thanks to being their mothers favourite (even if he wasn't the toughest of them by any means) joined them they made sure the Deep One was run off. Of course this might have issues if they were searching Innsmouth but they weren't that wasn't the plan.

No they had decided to take the Necronomicon and search Providence RI for the Azathoth cultists since clearly the first attempt had not worked. They just hoped the Dagons got the message that they were not to be trifled with.

The air is grey and thickening around
the damp dull streets. I stride, my mind afire
With where the Cult of Yig has gone to ground:
Perhaps it’s Kingsport where they’ll light their pyre
And open the Necronomicon:
Their bloody hands to turn each page thereon…

@Read Me And Weep whilst wondering about in Kingsport, you come across a miscreant youth singing about the upcoming Festival. What exactly is he singing?

The Raccoons were continuing their search, the Necronomicon strapped to their backs as they waddled to their next destination they were on their way to Dunwich, Mass So far they's struck out on finding where the cultists were and who they were. But they were certain that they would eventually find their way if they could do nothing else. And then. YES then they would become Old Gods themselves. Once they got to Dunwich they went in search of the cultists of Yog- Sothoth wanting very much to know if they would help them release the old ones in an attempt to add the Three Brothers to their numbers.

I heard a young man sing a song,
But what he sang I could not tell:
The words I could not hear a-long
And his sweet voice grew wild and fell.

It seemed to me the words he sang
Were of the Black Ram Lodge withal;
Where on and on the dark bells rang
The cult of Yithra’s manic call;

The Necronomicon laid bare
its scrawling script upon my brain,
Erasing from the very air
The music of that youth’s refrain.

The cult has been stopped! @I Said What I Said's raccoon trio have interrupted the ritual to bring Yog-Sothoth screaming into the world in the small, backwater town of Dunwich (maybe with the the help of a few professors from Arkham, but that's immaterial to the real story), using the dreaded Necronomicon!

Alas that the world should be a peace though, for as soon as the raccoons can celebrate their victory over the Key and Keeper of the Gate, there are rumblings of other cults, in other places, using other tomes to bring about an even worse apocalypse!

The board is reset, and strange aeons are upon us...

The three brothers were very upset that them showing up stopped the summonin, after all they wanted to become gods themselves so this was problematic though they did try to convince the cult that they should worship them instead, Reginald stating something like if enough people believed they were gods they'd likely become gods. Hob and Bob didn't think that would work and quickly went to find another cult to help them in their quest.

The decided to start in Innsmouth MAss and the The Bone Turner’s Tale figuring bones were something that one could chew on decently if they could find these bones. Who and what they were looking for though to help them with their quest this time? Ghatanothoa yeah that sounded right.
