Figured this was relevant (and a bit sad) information for this crowd.

Oh no! That’s very disappointing. I’m so glad I at least had the opportunity to visit there once.
At least the pub is going to stay the same!

I'm grateful the ground floor is staying as a pub, but it won't be the same.

Aww!! My hubby and I made a pilgrimage to Oxford for our 25th Anniversary to visit all of JRRT's old hangouts and grave. Last week was our 35th Anniversary. We are a little more wrinkly now.
As has already been said, the pub will be the same. It seems there will be alterations only to the rear of the ground floor (the alterations to the upper floors will make no diff. to the general public, as we aren't allowed up there at present.
And of course, the cafe next door will go. Shame; I've only just this year heard how good it is.

It's all in the books.

I"m sad I didn't get to see it before these changes but I think my next visit to the UK I will be doing far more adventuring as I won't be tied down to a local that likes to keep to London with Brighton being the only other place they'll go.
