Welcome to you and @Sur Vanar Utírieste
The Wood-elves lingered in the twilight of our Sun and Moon, but loved best the stars.
I know I freaked out on discord, but killer-of-orcs was like one of my first adopted kids! And that remembers me! :D
@Otherwise
Welcome back, Orc-killer or otherwise, it's good to see you here

Welcome back @Sur Vanar Utírieste and @Otherwise! Otherwise you are not alone in wanting to forget adolescent things you did on the old Plaza.
You are too kind. Here's to finding whether there's anything still worth discussing in Tolkienology that hasn't already been mulled over upteen times by now.
@Otherwise lol, those were the days. My first plaza name was Friend_of_Frodo or something like that. *shudder*
Please state the nature of the medical emergency!
@Eamila Bolger I'm sure you were a great friend to him.
@Eamila Bolger I think I remember the Friend_of_Frodo handle!
Tackleglomps @Windowcel
So glad to see the Plaza back.
I happened to be listening to the Silmarillion audio book when I felt that familiar wave of nostalgia and did a quick Google search for the Plaza. I was so pleasantly surprised!
Most of my time spent here originally was between 2006-2008. I think. I love roleplaying and storytelling and, as ever, am a devoted resident of Imladris. (Except for that brief period I escaped to Mordor.)
Thank you to Narv for letting the hobby get out of hand. <3

Hey @Isiliel welcome back! You've picked a great time to return!
Belated welcome back, @corlisswyn !

Hullo maggots! I used to (briefly) hang around this site years ago, mainly in the RP section if I remember correctly. I don't even remember what my username was lol. Anyway, I'm a despicable writer of fanfics that no one in their right mind wants to read and occasional drawer (not the furniture).
Per viam, puto quod opus est mundo tumultus orcorum.
Welcome back! I'll be moving back to Mordor at the end of the month. It's Halloween season right now, and unlike on the Old Plaza, you can choose whichever kingdom (and rank) you like (without losing any points, since I found that a bit of a nuisance on the Old Plaza, which is probably why I didn't do it much). Kind of a nice change, if you ask me. You can also opt out and keep your regular rank, if you wish.

Welcome back, @Hoglorfen! Looking forward to seeing your posts.
Woot another minion!! Welcome back Hoglorfen!
Hello @Hoglorfen and welcome back! Glad you found us!
Hi all, many thanks to my good friend @Chrysophylax Dives for inviting me to come along and join the Plaza. I have never really been into forums or social media but have decided to make the effort given the work that some of you here have done to bring this place back to life. I remember a little of the forums back in its prime days and read with interest the posts from Halfir but never took the plunge and joined on a serious level. So one could call this quite literally a new adventure.
My Tolkien bug started back in the late 80s and reading The Hobbit as a boy followed very quickly by The Lord of the Rings and the rest is history. Maybe some of you have crossed paths with me previously from my Tolkien research Archive which has been a private passion for many years with a more serious push in the last 6 years. Now all these years later I maintain a nearly 50GB Google Drive text archive. Private of course due to copyright but if I can help any of you along the way with the texts I have then I am happy to do so as long as it falls into 'fair use'.
I look forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome to the Plaza, Simon did say he would spread the word, glad he did!! :D
Many thanks. I hope to bring some others too when I email my small group. Simon has told me a little of the work you are all doing to bring the forums back to life and I hope I can help.Winddancer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 6:30 pm Welcome to the Plaza, Simon did say he would spread the word, glad he did!! :D
Hi everyone. Reading @onthetrail's introduction above I realized that I had never introduced myself here. I was smials on the old plaza, which I left in a huff after a run in with some over zealous admins. Actually, I only joined the new plaza because I was helping @Saranna in her quest to publish some of halfir's plaza contributions. But now that objective has been achieved I look around and, like Phil, am deeply impressed by the work and commitment that has been put in to the rebirth of what was once the greatest Tolkien site on the internet. I intend to stay and, if possible, contribute to the lore discussions - at least until the next blowup with some crazed admin.
My own Tolkien bug also began with The Hobbit, which was read to me when I was about 7, back in the 1970s. I used to say that I wanted to have children so that I could read them The Hobbit. But over the last decade my old love of Middle-earth has mingled with what was originally a quite separate interest in the history of late-Victorian and Edwardian scholarship. Basically, I've become obsessed with the relationship between Tolkien's stories and his scholarship (his understanding of history, of language, and of magic). I appreciate that this obsession is not shared by other Tolkien fanatics, but one of the things I've always liked about the plaza is that it is a place where different kinds of love of Middle-earth can co-exist and intermingle.

@Chrysophylax Dives Seems to me that you have a lot in common with halfir - I mean the resigning in a huff. But he was always talked out of it so I hope that might be the case with you
Your interests in Tolkien's reading have led me to a lot of interesting books from the periods you have mentioned, for which I am grateful.

Welcome to the new Plaza, @onthetrail! I look forward to seeing you around. And excellent recruiting work, @Chrysophylax Dives! I've never had much luck being a spruiker of the Plaza.
You have been awarded

WamBucks© for

Congratulations!
Many thanks. I really look forward to delving deeper into the forums and getting to know you all.Dwimmerlaik wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2020 9:46 am Welcome to the new Plaza, @onthetrail! Welcome @onthetrail
What I really want to know is, is @Bobo my brother? (And if so, why is he on a LotR website?)

Hey @onthetrail, welcome! I'm glad you've ventured into the world of forums with us and hope to see you around!
@Wamba_the_Fool, I had not considered until now that it may be a word only used in Australia. Nevertheless, thank you for these extremely valuable WamBucks©!
Thank you, and thank you all for the welcome. When I get 5 minutes I will take a proper look around and jump into some of the threads here.Little Bird Lail wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 12:16 am Hey @onthetrail, welcome! Hi all,
I've been aware of the plaza over the years but I don't think I was ever a member. Used to hang out on other message boards though, like The Fantasy Forum.
Always happy to have another place to turn to, though, for good Tolkien chat. Hopefully will be able to contribute some value here, and learn loads.

Hi Mathom ! Welcome to the Plaza!
The world was fair in Durin's Day
Welcome Mathom!!
Hello @Mathom House and welcome! I look forward to seeing you around and also - love your name!
@Mathom House - I agree, your name is excellent. Welcome to the Plaza!
Hello! Narya here. I found my way to this space via the SWG Discord. I'm a child of the 90s so I love me some forums, and I've adored Tolkien and Middle-earth since I was tiny.
IRL stuff - I live in Scotland, although I'm English by birth; I'm an accountant by day; I am generally a lover of fantasy, sci fi, horror, and speculative fiction.
I also have Tumblr (naryaflame), Dreamwidth (narya_flame), AO3 (Narya_Flame) and Discord (Narya#5649).

Hi!
Omg omg! Are you saying you were never on the old Plaza forum?? :O
Welcome!! :D We also hang out on our own Discord server: https://discord.gg/Pfg5dkCB

Welcome! I'm afraid I'm not on Discord (I don't even use the messaging service with my various email accounts, so I don't see the point) but I do have a Tumblr account (vesuvius-girl) as well as Ao3 (Island_Queen). If you check out my Ao3, there's a LotR one shot I did for someone on another Tolkien site for a Secret Santa, the other one is a post Jurassic World story I should get back to one of these days. My Tumblr has more reblogs on volcanoes (especially Vesuvius, which is my personal favorite, hence the username) than anything to do with Tolkien, but there might be a few left in there. Hope to see you around the boards!

You have GOT to be kidding me. After all these years?? The old place was dead and buried last I looked (and that was a while ago), and just thought I'd check once again because RotK was on tv tonight (and on two channels).
And now I see Windy, and Saranna, and mention of dear old halfir. Talk about a timewarp!
Those were good times.

Mind. Blown.

Hey that's nothing, hold on to your hat.. NARV made this Plaza!!
Hey there @Amalric! It's always great to see another name I recognise show up here. And yes, the crazy Narv is the one we have to thank for the rebirth of this community.
Woohoo!! Welcome back, Amalric!
