Bit nervous of this one. Recently discovered Ents were not trees. Think I might wait ...

Thanks for the latest quiz ~ my head is aching now, but also it made me look up Letters for Tolkien's reason for creating Ents... "bitter disappointment and disgust from schooldays with the shabby use made in Shakespeare's Macbeth of the coming of Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane hill - I longed to devise a setting in which the trees might really march to war"

The last quiz was tough, I'm pretty made up to get 7!

9/10, not too bad, but boo to having uneven points again.

And thank you for putting more of these up!

Uhhh haha, I only got 9 out of 10, had no idea which tree was which anymore, so I had to guess wildly. Turns out I guessed wrong. :(

Thank you again to everyone who worked on these, but I have a quibble (sorry!).

(The second question asks what the capital city of Gondor was, listing both Osgiliath and Minas Tirith as possible answers. Both were the capital of Gondor at different points in its history. I picked Minas Tirith as my answer because it was the capital at the time of the War of the Ring, which is the time period most people are familiar with. That was apparently wrong. I suppose it's possible we are meant to pick Osgiliath because the question asks specifically for a city. In ROTK, V 1, Beregond says that historically, Osgiliath was "the chief city of Gondor, of which this [Minas Anor/Tirith] was only a fortress". However, Minas Tirith as it existed in the late Third Age is referred to as a city numerous times, including by Beregond earlier in the same chapter ("I love beasts, and we see them seldom in this stony city").)

I probably should have worded it as "original " capital city. I can go in and change the phrasing 👍

Hope you all have enjoyed the little jokes I've thrown in 😁

Well, I did not do so well on that one. 7/10 And wow, that was fast getting the shinies! Yay for even points again.

That tree question was a little bit ridiculous.

*Phew* the heat...I would have felt a need to switch kingdoms if I didn't get all of them.

"Mordor. The one quiz in Knowledge Hall 1 we don't want to see any closer, and the one quiz we're trying to take. It's just points we can't get. Let's face it, Mr. Frodo, we're finished Knowledge Hall 1. I don't think Mojo meant for us to get this far."

[your plaza name]... but they did."
QUIZ TEN: MORDOR

Thanks for playing along everyone! And our thanks again to @Mojo for all his work on these. New wild exciting intermediate-tier Quizzes coming..... someday???

These have been a blast. I was not expecting the Knowledge Halls to be one of the elements of the Plaza to be revived here, but I'm delighted to have been wrong in that expectation. Thank you to everyone involved, and especially @Mojo, for making this happen!

One does not simply walk into Mordor - specially if they can't remember all those tricky names 🤪

YAY for another quiz! Thank you @Mojo and @Narv! The Knowledge Halls were how I found the Plaza way back when in the first place, so it's been a joy reliving those little moments again!

Hopefully the intermediate-ish quizzes will be along... eventually. Soonish. :smooch:

Heh, good mix of questions. Missed 1, went for a funny answer and not the obvious one. I guess that's why I am not a minion.

Loved this one. Thank you so much @Mojo (and whoever else helped, too!) for your work on these quizzes! They were literally one of my favorite things on OP and I've really enjoyed getting to do new ones. Now I must go study the volcanoes of Mordor again...

Also, glad to hear everyone enjoyed these so much! I hope you got as much of a chuckle out of some of the questions and answers as I did when I wrote them. More coming soon, with additional early-2000s internet/pop culture references, so be forewarned!

Thanks for the quizzes, good fun. The latest Hobbit one was tough. I need to read the book again so that I'm not guessing the answers (all those dwarves!!!)

Is there any way to tell which ones we've done? I think the last one I did was Hall 1, Isengard, but I don't recall.

I dont know if there is a quick way, but I did go check both the Isengard and the Gondor (which is 9) and you have indeed done Isengard, but not Gondor :)

Aww, thanks Windy! Hey, Windy and Findy! I've been absent of late... seems typing is very painful due to old problems (shoulder op went horribly wrong about 33 years ago). I'll still pop in from time to time. Meanwhile I'm doing something very Findy-ish (kinda), and ordered some Chinese pain patches containing Wormwood. :encore:
