Hi all,

Just want to give a heads up that I'm going to be updating our phpBB forum software tonight to keep us up-to-date, which will involve the site being unavailable for a bit. I'm gonna do this around 11pm PST - if it goes smoothly it shouldn't take more than an hour or two, but I'm not gonna make any promises as I haven't tried this on the live site yet, so no guarantees. If you plan on writing any massive posts tonight, please get them done before 11pm PST or write em in Word or something, because otherwise you might be in for a tragic evening.

Thanks and we'll see you on our brand spankin new hyper-modern Plaza tomorrow, which with any luck will be completely indistinguishable from this one. Except your password resets should actually work. Hopefully.

ok I think it worked?

If I broke things lemme know and I'll attempt to fix them

If not, carry on and bask in the knowledge that you are on a website running the most technologically advanced 2003-era php webforum software on the internet. Well, tied with the rest of them, I guess

@Winddancer informed me that the @mentioning system is kinda broke - investigating..

Looks like new mentions work but all our old posts have the hard-coded 'mention' tags around them. That might have to be the price we pay for having a secure website but it looks unfortunate so I'll see if there's anything I can do about it.

Looks kinda like mentions from before mid-October looks fine, but everything between then and today got mangled. That *might* fix itself if we give it some time, as phpBB apparently re-parses old posts semi-regularly. If it doesn't, there are some other things I can try, but I'll give it a bit before I go messing with things further..

@Narv when the wonky mentions sort themselves out by a form of cave troll magic  (don't at me here, I read history for a reason  ) I assume we won't get notifications for those mentions if we already marked them as read?

Here's one way to try a test: @Nessa Saelind could you point me to a post you got mentioned in recently (that now has the mention messed up), if you can still see one in your notification history?

Or anyone else who happens to see this for that matter

Here's one, I can see it in the notification history, but it's (still) marked as read.

Thanks - just re-parsed it manually and the nice looking mention is back: any new notification for you?

Ok good stuff - no guarantee that the automated do-everything-at-once way will work the same (or even work at all) but I'll give it a shot at some point soonish and hopefully that'll clean things up
