Tenebrous, the Corrupter – 18 Nuts

There was a saying, his old corpse remembered, something about being slow and steady to win races. Well that was just nuts. And not even these kinds of nuts. The bad kind. The kind you can’t poison and give to other forest animals to corrupt them from the inside out (those that would at least play along with the scenario obviously). And yet…

Tenebrous had been on top just moments ago, his pile of nuts had been the biggest, the most glorious, the most malignant and rancid. Yet now it was just another pile, a sad, decrepit pyramid of nuts slouching toward Babylon to be born. He needed to fix this. He needed to do something or he might as well give up. If he could give up, he probably would have a long time ago. He had given up in fact, he had died for Yavanna’s sake! Yet here he was. He was still here, spinning and spiraling in the mortal coil. He wanted, needed, to be done with this little game so he could hibernate. Sleep was so close to death, and his sleep was even deeper.

In his tree, dead Tenebrous lies dreaming.

One at a time seemed to be the most assured way to sneak out a victory. Well, needs must.

He looked over at the raccoon trio and glared at them, his milky yellow eyes attempting to convey a message.

Three Raccoons

Yes their pile was well. It was shrinking. "WHAT THE FREDGAR BOB????" Hob chittered very loudly at his brother that was suppose to be the next most responsible one. Who motioned at Reginald the Third that was trying to get back into the bird bones from the carcass that they had devoured. He narrowed his eyes and nodded. Bob held up his bird bone shiv and glanced at Reginald and shook his head. Hob for his part let out a little shriek of malcontent and looked up to the heavens.

"FINE DON'T Stab him. But protect the nuts first." To that Bob nodded and then motioned at twig squirrel that had freaked Reginald out before. The Squirrel was looking at them. The raccoons looked at the squirrel glaring right back. as Hob sat near Tevildos stash having successfully stolen a good number of nuts already and had taken one from the large predator already. Indeed he was going to stay put and steal another nut from him

Skwovet

POWERRRRRR

She felt POWER coursing through her. She had nuts! So many, many nuts! Naturally, Skwovet (still being unable to do arithmetic) was assuming that her nut pile was the biggest of them all at the moment. But still. She peered around the clearing and skampered from stash to stash to inspect the piles and yes, hers looked a bit larger. Back at her own nut stash, she rubbed her little paws together and cackled, veins bulging in her face with all the pent-up glee.

The power she felt prompted a new boldness. She would steal from the big cat! Yes, she would! If she had sleeves to roll up, she would have done so. Things being as they were, she gave a determined snort and marched right up to the cat’s dwindling pile of treasures.

Dart the nuthatch, 18 nuts
Dart was getting really very tired of all these squirrel shenanigans. How did they have so much energy? He fell asleep in a little cozy cavity while contemplating war with Tenebrous and how to steal all his nuts back once and for all.

When he awoke from the loveliest dream of being crowned King of the Nuts and leading all the other nuthatches in glorious battle against the squirrels, reality was hard to face because the nuthatch was not king of anything.

But he could try. Dart zigged and zagged his way down the tree trunk and reached the forest floor where he gathered up a bunch of sticks in his beak. Attack #2. If Tenebrous liked sticks, Dart would give him sticks. The nuthatch took took the air and then dropped the sticks somewhere in (un)dead-squirrel's vicinity before he dove for Square's pile because that one sure had stolen a lot of his hard-earned nuts!

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

He had been unsuccessful. The little squirrel still had his nuts. Taking a breather, Mister Black listen to the chittering going on a little way off. He had seen the three raccoons, but didn't dare approach them. He very much disliked an angry, hissing, raccoon. Ai, he had had his share of encounters with them back in his old forest. Suddenly, even though this forest had more food and wasn't as dark and musty, the three racoons (angry and hissing even) made him long for his old home. He was all alone. He sat back on his hind legs and took a trip down memory lane, his bright eyes slowly misting as he did so.
He remembered some of his squirrely buds. There had been Toughie, the bossy one who always wanted to rule their world and always got the best nut. There was the three blonde squirrels; Sci, Sim and Sin. Their fur always looked soft and silky. And then there was the nine black squirrels that always gave him the shivers. He was a black squirrel, but they were so black that, it was as if they were black holes that one could fall through and be lost for ever. Mister Black did not know their names and never bother to ask. And lastly, there were the septuplets. Their mother had trouble birthing them, hence they were all dwarfed. They had funny names, he recalled. Ding, Dong, Bing, Bong, Fling, Flung and Harry. A strange circle of friends, but they had been friends
Looking towards the chittering raccoons, Mister Black decided he would put up with their angry hissing just to feel some kind of camaraderie once more.

Three Raccoons

Success. Hob brought the one nut he'd managed to take back to their pile and reminded Bob to stab squirrels and birds that tried to steal their nuts. He motioned at a large black squirrel that seemed to be eyeballing their pile of nuts, they'd only just gotten it back to where it had been. He headed back out though to get another nut, hopefully. He looked at another squirrel that decided to join him in raiding the big cats nut stash. At least there were still enough that they didn't have to overly worry about there not being enough nuts for the both of them to steal. well hopefully.

Reginald for his part was still trying to eat the nuts that they had already amassed and it was not going well, so far he had not managed to break any teeth at least though.

Tenebrous, the Corrupter – 18 Nuts
\
Apparently, he was a shire thief. The shirest of thieves. How could he fail to steal even a single nut? A single nut?! This was, to put it lightly, nuts. He had once been lauded as the most terrifying thing walking under the eaves of the forest. Now look at him. Look at him! Ugh! No, don’t look at him, he’s disgusting, he’s less than the worms of the earth. They at least could gross people out. He might as well just chomp down on raspberries and call it a day. There was an inexplicably large pile of them just sitting there. Had it been left by someone? Had nature decided to be weird and pile a bunch of random stuff together? Were the gods playing a joke? He’d never had a raspberry. Never had anything really. A dead body doesn’t need to eat after all.

He eyed the red berries and considered them. If he chewed them in just the right way, he make it gory. He needed gore in his life. Not Gore, but gore.

He ran over the pile of raspberries and, not really understanding how eating berries worked, shoved his head haphazardly into the pile. If any one were observing him, he might look like an ostrich or an emu shoving their head into the sand. The berries were squishy and soft. They burst as soon as he tried to bite down on them. Soon there was so much raspberry gore all over him he could no longer see. He yanked (hahaha) his head out of the pile and grinned a creepy, willowy grin. Everything was covered in red with lumps of sticky berry flesh sticking to the sides of his cheeks, paws, and chest.

Hopefully this made him look terrifying again. He certainly felt more terrifying.

Monstrous squirrel zombie things needed to feel good about themselves too!

Three Raccoons

Well they were doing better once again and gaining in terms of how many nuts they had as Hob brought yet another nut back to their stash. Reginald was still struggling and Bob was doing his best to fend off the nasty squirrel that had attempted to steal not one but two nuts, he growled at them and stabbed at them running them off leaving them without any nuts. Hob nodded approvingly and threw a few insects at Reginald in an attempt to distract him from the nuts which were horribly off limits and frustrating, a delicate translucent wing of a flying beetle fluttered and landed on his nose causing him to go cross eyed and forgetting for a moment that he was trying to eat a nut that would not allow itself to be eaten.

he sat still for several moments his paws full of force fielded nuts that he did not want to put down so instead he attempted to lick the wing off the top of his nose. It did not go well, he wandered about struggling the entire time abandoning the nuts as he wandered, Bob putting them back in the pile so that he would be able to defend them easier while Reginald stumbled about cross eyed attempting to lick the lacey wing off of the top of his nose. He wanted to try the bug wing so bad but wasn't able to eat it he wondered if it was crunchy he hoped it was crunchy.

Hob shook his head seeing what his brother was doing and headed off to nab at least one more nut from Tevildo...

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

He had been unsuccessful, again. And his hopes for some kind of friendship, well, it hadn't happen. He would just have to try and pinch back his nuts from the little squirrel that still had then. He might search out the Three Raccoons if he felt homesick again. Suddenly he had the urge to eat, He headed off to the feasting field. The Three Raccoons were there and the zombie looking creature. He decided to have one of the mushrooms, something he rarely ate unless he was starving.
Sometime later, Mister Black could be seen staring at the bark of a certain birch tree. He had been doing this for hours. The bark on the tree appeared to be changing colors from blue to green and pink and orange, yellow and purple and a multitude of other colors. The black squirrel was totally transfixed by this phenomenon. He just stood there, nose twitching in a relaxed way, happy as can be. It was like, magic......

Skwovet, Large and In Charge

“Skwoh! Skwovet Skwoh Skwovet!” (Tr: “I’ll be back for your nuts, you mark my words!”)

Skwovet shook a paw at the big cat. She had failed, for the time being, to steal its nuts. The little skwirrel narrowed her eyes and gazed around at all the various creatures running about and stealing stuff from each other. She scowled, then sighed. Times like these called for drastic action.

Skwovet skuttled over to the feast. She had partaken of plum and seeds so far. Now, however, she had a thirst. Her latest efforts (and bout of shouting) had left her parched. She sniffed at some wide bowls of liquid. Nothing too foul, though at the rate she was turning cold and veiny-faced, something foul might be nice. Still, she lapped up a large amount of the ent draught, then lay down on a large spongy mushroom cap for a bit of rest.

Skwovet awoke to the mushroom cap collapsing beneath her. “Skwoh????” She rolled off it and saw to her surprise that the crushed mushroom cap was no bigger than her head, where before it had been large enough to be a bed. “Skwovet??” (Tr: “What??”) Was this a magical shrinking mushroom? She looked around and gasped. She was bigger than the cat now!

She reveled in her newfound stature. “Skwovet! Skwovet Skwoh!” The more of her there was, the more evil she could do. The more of her there was, the more nuts she could steal, presumably by simply stomping on the other, smaller critters or kicking them out of her way. She stomped on a grasshopper to test her strength. She kicked a chipmunk in the face and cackled as it flew into a cluster of thorny bushes. Then she set off to steal some nuts from a tiny little skwirrel.

Dart the nuthatch of 18 nuts
A bird bath! Dart landed on the edge of a bowl of Ent-draught (perhaps not the one same one Skwovet enjoyed and tainted with her startling red eyes and rascally ways) and dipped his beak in. Yum, yum, how very refreshing it was and so different from the usual water he drank...

There was still some sticky honey left in some of his feathers so he hopped right into the bowl and began to have a bath. He splished and splashed and dipped his little striped head into the lovely fresh bath and swallowed (intentionally or not) beak-fuls of Ent-draught at the same time. Beads of water laced his slatey blue feathers until he shook them out and felt like a brand new nuthatch!

His beady little eye focused on Skwovet, Red-eyed Squirrel of the Many Stolen Nuts, and considered pilfering her stash until suddenly the squirrel was...not a squirrel? No, she was still a squirrel but she had grown very, very big. And then stomped on a chipmunk who looked exceptionally tiny to him.

Not only that, the other squirrels were looking smaller, too. And the trees. And the nuts, and those dead moths waiting to be eaten which did not look big enough to fill him up anymore. Wait a minute. Had Dart grown...bigger?

“Tereep?” He cocked his head to the side in confusion and stumbled around on gangly legs as if learning how to walk again in this taller body.

Square the Squirrel

Square groaned as the sunlight pierced her closed eyelids, arousing her from slumber. She felt very peculiar, and had quite forgotten where she was. She was surprised to see herself on the ground. She couldn't remember the last time she'd had a ground-nap. That was a dangerous hobby for a squirrel, and only the true adrenaline-junkies of the squirrel world, of which Square was not one, generally dared have ground-naps. She wondered if it was all those nuts falling on her head that had caused such a fatigue to hit her. Shrugging off the wave of tiredness, Square pushed herself back up into an upright position, just in time to see the Nuthatch make a dive for her nut pile!

"NO!!" Square hollered, diving in defence of her treasure hoard. She felt the tickle of feathers pass above her - she had only just got to the nut pile in time, and as a result, thankfully, the bird had been unsuccessful. Square shook her little fist at the bird, hoping to ward him off from trying his luck again. But then not a moment later, just as one attack on her nuts had ended, another began, this time the criminal was another squirrel!

But as Square saw the squirrel stomp over to her (for stomp it was - this was an unnaturally large squirrel!!), her eyes bulged at the size of her. What on earth was Square going to do against a squirrel this large? As far as she could see, there was only one thing for it - offence was the best form of defence, after all. She charged at the giant squirrel, and ran straight through her large legs, eyes firmly on the nut pile belong to her.

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

Success, finally. With his two pinched nuts tucked into his cheeks, Mister Black dashed up his Willow and stuffed them into his already stuffed tree den. He then scooted back down and decided to try and be friends with the raccoons again and maybe , just maybe, discover where they hid their winter supply of food. It wasn't above him , especially at this time of year with a snow storm looming (he could smell it in the air), to steal from friends, foe, or kin. One had to survive. He would pay them back (not his foes, doh!) in the summer when food was in abundance. That was his logic, and he was sticking to it.

Tenebrous, the Corrupter – 20 Nuts

The raspberry gore covering seemed to do the trick. He was back on top. Yes, he had to share the title with the three raccoons, but these allies were useful right now, so he deemed them worthy enough to continue their existence, but only so far. If they continued be a pestilence in his quest for ultimate domination, he would deal with them the way any warlord would. He shook his head, clearing fantasy images of heads on spikes and a throne made of squirrel skulls. He had work to do. His long, pale, worm-like tongue slithered out and tasted the air. He felt back to his old self again, none of those ridiculous nut puns were invading his mind now. Clearly, he needed to stay in the lead to maintain his sense of self and sanity. If he became too burdened with nut puns rather than nuts there was no telling what might happen to him. He might decide to give up his quest for domination and control for a comedy troupe and a stage. Oh, the horror! He was a being of immense hunger, avaricity, and sanity blasting madness, but even he had to draw the line somewhere. A comedy troupe? What would his stage name be? Tenebrous, the Coconutter? Oh that was horrible. Stop thinking about! Stop! Kill them all and steal their nuts! AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Dart the slightly larger, disproportionate nuthatch, 19 nuts
Dart spent quite a bit of time trying to learn how to balance his slightly larger body on wobbling legs. For some reason, it seemed the Ent-draught did not do anything to make his legs bigger and now he was very out of proportion...

He teetered around, using his oversized wings to stop himself falling over. This was all very strange. Dart almost wished he'd never left his cavity that morning. Even for the big nut pile. Somehow he still managed to steal a nut and add it to his stash.

Seeing the nice little squirrel he tried to steal from (Square) make a dash for the giant squirrel's pile, he took to the air (luckily his flight was not impacted by the ingestion of Ent-draught or the tiny legs-big body conundrum) and went in for another nut...

Three Raccoons

Success. It was something that seemed to happen more often than not for the three brothers in terms of gaining nuts. Thought they noticed that nasty mirkwood squirrel was back trying to steal nuts from them and Hob motioned to the squirrel to Bob to try to stop the little rodent. Rodents were such disgusting creatures. Hob waddled along noting where the willow twig squirrel was going. Hob sat back for a moment, watchin waiting. Indeed the brothers and the squirrel thing as horrible as rodents were were working together and thus far it seemed to be fairly mutually beneficial. Of course Hob was also very very much aware that the Mirkwood squirrel was away from their horde attempting to steal from the brothers once more and he debated on stealing from the squirrel in question.

No, for now they would honor the deal for now. Hopefully Bob would be able to hold off the squirrel in question.

Dawn of a New Alliance: The Adventures of Square & Treebeard, vol. I

Somehow, despite her nimble dart through the giant squirrel's legs, which Square had rather prided herself on, having never navigated between another animal's legs before, she failed to collect a single nut. Others were more successful in their endeavours, however, and Square was mightily amused to see that although the giant squirrel had indeed managed to steal some of Square's precious nuts (the audacity of it!), her nut pile remained the same size as when she left it, notwithstanding her nut-thievery from Square.

Square pointed, shaking with barely contained laughter, at the giant squirrel's nut pile. "See what happens what you take my nuts!" she called with mischievous glee, "that's karma for you, that is." Square haughtily declared, nodding sagely, before stalking off to her next potential victim.

Square glanced back to her nut pile, just to make sure she didn't need to go save it for the umpteenth time, and had to do an immediate double-take. How utterly peculiar! For there was now a rather large tree, planted right in the middle of the scene before here, and in the very place her little nut stash had been just moments ago. Square's little jaw fell open. Trees didn't just appear from thin air, even she knew that. She felt immediately disorientated; that couldn't possible have been where she left her nuts! But as she looked around with growing concern, she knew that it was. She dropped all plans to raid someone else's nuts, and bounded over to the tree to investigate further.

Looking down at her, was an old, solemn face, with bright eyes that looked older than the forest itself. "Hrum, Hoom," murmured a deep earthy voice, as Square landed on one of Treebeard's large, firmly planted feet. "Now, then. Why are we in such haste?" he asked, every word spoken was slow and unhurried. Square froze in her tracks, one foot raised in mid-air as she realised her mistake. This was no tree. She was not on a knot of roots, but an Ent's toe, no less!

"If you would be so kind, umm, sir?" Square asked (Square had never had much interaction with an Ent before, aside from occasionally being startled to find herself on one, at which point she always made a hurried exit off it, so she didn't really know how she ought to address him), "I would be most grateful if you could take a step back, for I think you might be stood on my nuts," she squeaked back at the top of her voice, for she wasn't sure her voice would carry quite as well as his, and he was a long, long way up into the sky. "Hmm. Hm, is that so?" he pondered, and for a moment Square was concerned he had actually fallen asleep. But after assessing the situation, Treebeard decided to shift his stance slightly, which revealed the (unbelievably) unflattened nut pile, which must have been just inches away from being squished into non-existence, but resolutely remained in tact, beside his footprint.

Square was simply delighted, and immediately a plan came to mind, "Oh sir, Mr Ent! You could look after my nuts for me! You see, lots of the mean critters around here are trying to steal them, and I was thinking, that if you just picked them up and held them, then that would probably work well enough to stop the others taking them, wouldn't it? No one else has an Ent on their side!"

This was all very hasty behaviour, and coming from a squirrel too, and squirrels, as a general rule, didn't usually pay him much heed. "Hrum Hoom. These nuts belong to the forest," Treebeard mused, "and I do not take sides, so I am not with you, or against you." At these words, Square looked truly crestfallen. "However, hmm hooom," Treebeard continued, "No, that would not be... improper, I should not think. No, it would not." Treebeard stooped, such as he could, so his face was much closer to Square's, "Tiny creature of Fangorn, I shall offer you my branches. You may dwell here, as I take my stroll. Yes, that will be helpful to you, I am sure".

Square couldn't really see how this would help her very much, but she was rather excited to be offered the opportunity. She stuffed as many of her nuts as she could into the nooks and crannies of the Ent's body, and then she clambered up his leg and settled in for the ride. As they slowly walked past the spot of the three raccoons, Square asked Treebeard to stop, which to her surprise, he did. She scampered back down his leg, and attempted to take a couple of nuts.

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

Yes he was scared, but what the hell. Winter had just dumped a load of snow all over the woods and food was getting hard to find. Some creatures just looked evil but deep down they had a small flame of goodness that burned ever so softly. A kind deed or word would surely make it burn bright. This was what Mister Black thought as he moved in a cautious and surreptitious manner, towards the pale, zombie looking squirrel, and in his best squirrel speak, utter three words so that it seem to come from somewhere else - "kuk kuk, quaa" "you are beautiful." Then he snuck in for the pinch.

The Three Raccoons

This was going well so far. So far they had amassed a fantastic amount of nuts. 7 each. Not that they could infact eat them. They needed to discuss how they were going to kill the Valar keeping them from eating said nuts with Tenebrous who they were currently allied with, though the strange willow squirrel would probably be a little angry that he was not in the lead. Who knew what their fragile alliance would do now that the balance of nuts was now tipped in the brothers favour.

Granted they might be willing to share if the squirrel helped them kill the valar so they could eat the nuts. After all at the moment they could do nothing and Bob was having a good number of interlopers attempting and so far being fended off from the stash of nuts. It seemed that at least one of the failed theives has moved onto someone else for the time being. With that Hob leaned over slightly so that he could grab another nut from Fwirls stash.

Tenebrous, the Corruption – 20 nuts

W… wait… what? Ignoring the ignominious fact that he had again failed to steal any nuts, what the heck just happened to him? The dead squirrel looked at the Mirkwood squirrel with a mixture of confusion, horror, fascination, intrigue, disgust, interest, annoyance, and a host of other emotions that were all contradictory and were all confusing. Had he heard that right? The squirrel called him beautiful? Tenebrous wasn’t beautiful! He was dead! D-E-D dead! Deader than shire! Dead as a doornail. Dead. Super dead. If there was such a thing as a blue screen of death, Tenebrous both was that screen and was experiencing that screen. He stared at the spot the squirrel was standing, not realizing that the squirrel had long since left that spot. He stared and stared and stared and stared.

Was he… beautiful?

Sure, he was ugly and dead and creepy and fully of willow trees and acted as a gateway to a realm where the willows were the supreme form of life. But…

Was he beautiful?

Could he have been wrong all this time? Might there be a chance for him, for Tenebrous?

Wait…

Wait…

He shook himself. The squirrel was gone. What? Huh?

A long, wormy tongue snaked out and licked his milky yellow eyeball. Was he seeing things? He looked across the whatever it was, expanse, field, clearing, whatever that didn’t matter, at the tree deicidal raccoons, his allies. He groaned. He was doomed. Dooooooooooooooomed! DOOOMED!

He was having trouble focusing. A lot of trouble, whatever remnants of his mind still working trying to piece out if he was in fact beautiful or not.

ARGH!! Stop it!

Just get some nucking futs… whatever you know what I mean, and get back on track!

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

Nuts! Nuts! Winter had dumped another load and soon it would be impossible to find or steal food from other creatures. Mister Black longed to nestle into his cozy tree den and take a few days off from hoarding. He had more food store away now than he ever had in Mirkwood. He could afford to lounge for a time. But there was still a chance to grab more food, and he had to take it. Sticking his nose out of his den, he surveyed the forest thinking in what direction and who he would attempt to pinch a few nuts from next.

With a 'qua qua' warning that he was coming, he made off east, his nose leading him

Ahh yes the world was clearly restored to balance at least for the time being as the willow squirrel managed to grab two nuts. That said the brothers had other fish to fry, or in this case birds. They were going to have them some acorn crusted nuthatch if they could manage it. Well if Hob could manage it, after all he was the one stealing the nuts and Bob was still the one trying to defend said nuts.

What Reginald was doing nobody was quite sure. He was eating mushrooms. Oh no. He was eating mushrooms. Maybe the brothers wouldn't need the willow squirrel to kill the valar after all.

Tenebrous, the Corruption – 22 Nuts

Well it was about time something went right! He snarled, licked his new nuts (Jeez man, is that really necessary? That’s gross on so many levels). He was back in control of this little game. Whatever dark powers propelled him forward looked down on him (or up at him, more likely) and nodded with a malevolent approval. He arranged his nuts fastidiously in the same of a four-sided pyramid. The shape was far from perfect, the curse of squirrel hands, but it was enough. The more he gathered, the larger it became, the more energy it radiated, and the more darkness it brought forth. That was the plan anyway. As with all things in this game, the likelihood of the pyramid working the way it was supposed to was close to nil. There was a pervasive ridiculousness that permeated the air.

What. The. Hell?

There was a tree moving. No, no that wasn’t a tree. For the first time in a while, the dead squirrel felt fear. That was no tree. That was an ant. Eh, no, that’s not right. What were those giant tree monstrosities called again? Ents! Ents! The Ents had ENTered the playing field. Oh no. Not this again! The dead squirrel rolled his eyes. Puns. Why did it have to be puns?

Dart, still slightly larger nuthatch, 20 nuts
Oh oh being a bigger bird maybe made it easier to steal nuts? But but wait a peep! Dart had Skwovet's nut clutched in his black beak but could no longer fit into his little cavity home! He shimmied and shivered and tried every which way in but it was no use. Dart was too big for his cosy home. Whatever was he going to do now?

"Teeep..." he chirped sadly and landed on a branch that shook beneath his new weight. His little legs tried to clutch it but could not hold himself up and went falling, spinning head over legs, wings over tail, down, down down...until he pumped his wings and righted himself.

Dart just wanted to be a little nuthatch again. So he did the only thing he could - he fluttered up to the ancient mystical moving tree and appealed his case (only after diving for another of Skwovet's nuts).

"Chip chip chip tee dee tee chip chip tewee teweeeeee?" If Treebeard understood Nuthatch, it would translate roughly to 'can you help me be small again please oh pleeease?'. Though Dart did not know much about the wide world, some instinct must have driven him to know the wise and ancient Treebeard might be able to help.

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

Mister Black bit his own paw, then slapped his brow in frustration. What was he thinking? He could barely manage 2 nuts in each cheek- sometimes, if they were small, 4 (two on each side)- but 8 ?!?! Why that was just, nuts!! There were different rules in this forest. He would have to learn them fast or else he would be haunting the place like that pale zombie looking dude!!

He scuttled up his Willow and dug around his den for a tender green branch to nibble on. He chewed and twitched his nose. "Acorns would be good," he suddenly thought as he attempted to dislodge a piece of wood from between his two front teeth with his tongue. This action reminded him of his childhood friend. Bucky had the largest milk teeth then any of the other squirrels in the forest. He could crack acorns the size of golf balls. Sometimes when he got excited, it looked like he was chewing his own face off.

With acorns on his brain, Mister Black dropped the twig in his den for later and headed out. Jumping from branch to branch, his nose caught a scent. He had found his target.

Failure? This was unexpected but considering how often they'd succeeded it was, acceptable Hob supposed though it would be rather nice if they could get more nuts. he picked at the grey end of his slightly short tail the black tip of it having been bitten off many moons ago now (at least by raccoon standards) by Fang Farmer Maggots dog. He narrowed his little eyes and watched while Bob and Reginald were doing oh no.

Where was Reginald?

Hob frantically searched about for the trouble some vermin hoping he wasn't doing anything to crazy. It seemed like he was attempting to help Hob steal nuts though he was doing a particularly horrible job of it, he appeared to be trying to chew a giant ents toe. That's what one got when one just ate random mushrooms Hob supposed. He looked at Reginald and up at the imposing ent. He doubted Reginald could do much damage to the giant ancient being, perhaps he should make sure the ent knew the raccoon was on mushrooms... Then he figured the ent would take care of Reginald before he actually managed to chew through his bark or do any damage at all.

Hob waddled back to Darts stash for another attempt

Dawn of a New Alliance: The Adventures of Square & Treebeard, vol. II

"Well that didn't go quite as planned," Square huffed, annoyed that once again she had failed to take any nuts from the Raccoons' rather large stash. "Hrum Hooom," Treebeard pulled one of Square's hidden nuts from the twiggy ends of his beard, "I wouldn't really have thought that what just occurred there constituted much of a plan," he continued in his deep earthy voice. "In fact, I believe what I witnessed was a thoughtlessly hasty spur-of-the-moment whim, at best." Square decided against what he would have described it at worst. "Now we don't you take some time to decide what the best tactic might be, to completely whatever mission it is that you have found yourself on? I know a particularly good spot for contemplating tactics, just a few days' march from here". Square could barely comprehend what was even being suggested, so ignored it. They were plainly operating on entirely different time spectrums, and this Ent clearly had no understanding of the precariousness of Square's nut-gathering situation.

"No, let's just stay here," Square quickly interjected, simultaneously running through a plan of how to hurriedly extricate all her nuts from Treebeard's body before he'd got too far away from the clearing, in case his threat to go on a never-ending walk had not been made in jest. "Very well," Treebeard murmured, and decided to settle into this spot. "Okay, where to next?" Square wondered allowed, given the Raccoons has given her no joy. "I think let's get some off that horrid dead squirrel," Square decided, and scampered back up Treebeard's leg.

Square clung on expectantly, awaiting Treebeard's departure to head off to the dead squirrel. Treebeard didn't budge. "Umm, sorry, sir, but I think we need to go that way," she pointed at Tenebrous. "Hmm but what is this? We have just made, the rather hasty, it cannot be denied, decision to 'stay here', had we not?".

"No, no, no! I meant stay here in this clearing. But we can't possibly just stay here in this very spot!" Square squeaked with exasperation. What a funny notion - just staying exactly still in one spot. Square didn't think she'd ever stayed still in the same spot for more than a couple of seconds in her entire life - except for when she was asleep, of course. Maybe the Ent intended to go to sleep. It was all very puzzling, but since they didn't seem to be moving anywhere, Square reluctantly jumped off Treebeard and made the dash across the forest floor herself.

But she'd got not halfway across when she caught sight of (and heard) an enormous commotion over at the feast. It was a badger - a ferocious, frenzied badger. "Mr Ent! Mr Ent!" Square called to her new friend across the clearing, hoping he could come scare the beast away, but she got no response from Treebeard. She sighed, what was the point in befriending an Ent if he wasn't willing to help out in these sorts of critical situations?

Treebeard meanwhile was surveying the antics below with calm interest. It had been a while since he'd stood and watched the creatures which lived in and among the trees he held so dearly. They were all such a frantically hurrisome bunch. Fancy dashing around like that, with no apparent rhyme nor reason to your actions and movements! He spotted the little squirrel who appeared to have taken something of a shine to him. She seemed to be urgently beckoning him over. Well, he certainly wasn't about to start doing the bidding of creatures who were barely the size of his little toe. He stayed where we was.

Square found herself getting quite annoyed by her new Entish friend. She stomped over to him in a bit of a huff. "Why won't you help get rid of that badger?!" she demanded, pointing accusingly at the manic animal behind her. She had to repeat herself several times over the din of the badger, and the fact her small voice didn't travel skywards very well. But it was no good trying to reason with him. Treebeard could not be persuaded that kicking a badger was a good way forward, no matter how excellent Square's arguments in favour of that particular solution were (and they were quite excellent arguments).

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

Mister Black sat huddled with his tail over his head - baby, it was cold outside. January's full moon lighted the frigid world below his tree den. He spotted movement in the shadows as he sat trying to keep warm and fretting over finding more winter food. He suddenly gasped and began twitching his nose nervously. Behind the neighbouring maple tree, a low-down, short-legged, weasel-headed badger was on the prowl. Mister B, nervous, watched as it made its way toward his Willow. Now, he knew that these creatures liked meat and worms - and Mister Black did have some meat on his bones. In Mirkwood, these creatures would eat the ground squirrels out of their holes.
"But would it climb a tree to eat me?" he thought to himself. This thought made him turn and dive back into his den full of colourful bark (kite). He burrowed himself as deeply as possible, attempting to hide his scent from the omnivorous, low-down creature below. He forced himself to calm down and control his breathing so he could listen to what was happening outside. Time passed, and though he feared for his life, he soon fell asleep.

He was just about to bite into an apple when a loud nocturnal noise filled the air - churring, purring, wailing and chittering. Startled (and he assumed the other creatures at the feast were, too), he turned to see a low-down, short-legged, weasel-headed badger burst onto the scene. It had a snarl on its lips, and it looked pretty mean. It made for the food and dared anyone to stop them. It shoved food into its mouth and slobbered and spit. It ate all the worms!! (which was a good thing for Mister Black did not like worms, nay, not at all). Then, it stood on its short hind legs (quite a feat to behold), looked at the creatures who were still brave enough to be there, and began screaming. It was the badger's mating call.

Mister Black, having dropped his apple in fright, was so scared he had not moved an inch when suddenly, the low-down, short-legged, weasel-headed badger looked right at him. He was positive at this point, for some reason, that it was a she). And then she smiled/snarled at him. She dropped down on all four short legs and began to stroll towards him swinging her hips provocatively. Mister Black's big eyes grew 3 sizes bigger. He tried to run, but his fear caused him to sweat profusely. The sweat had puddled around his feet, freezing him to the spot. He started waving his paws above his head, trying to dislodge his feet while watching the badger lick her lips as she drew nearer. Losing control, he began to scream, making the badger all the more enthusiastic to think he was returning the mating call. She began to gallop towards him, froth bubbling at the corners of her mouth. Mister Black began licking the ice around his feet as fast as he could, trying desperately to melt it, but his tongue got stuck - he was out of luck. The she-badger was almost on him. He looked up awkwardly with his tongue stuck between his legs on the ice, his eyes filled with tears of dread, and he.

...woke up, simultaneously jerking his legs so hard he hit himself smack in the jaw biting his tongue. With a whimper, he shook himself from the fading negative-like images of his nightmare to wide awake. He looked around in relief, then crept towards the hole in his den and peeked out. It was snowing. Any signs of the low-down, short-legged, weasel-headed badger on the prowl were disappearing under a blanket of white. She had never even gotten close to his Willow. He now knew there were worse things than being mauled and eaten. And that was encountering a screaming she-badger in heat.

Hob had been happy with his singular nut stealing now it was time for another. Indeed he was going to continue to steal from the nuthatch after all the unlucky bird as he had managed so far to do fairly well against the oddly proportioned avian. Hob scurried back from Bob to the small stash that the nuthatch had amassed and that Hob was absolutely thrilled to be depleting one nut at a time. As he headed back he was happy to see that Reginald was in fact not bothering an ent, but the root of an old elm tree that had been beside the ent before it had moved. At least their hapless brother wasn't going to die in a horrible squishy mess.

With that he reached the little trove he reached out and tried to get another nut and perhaps bring him and his brothers to the top of the nut pile.

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

Mister Black , having gotten over the terrible badger dream, found a nut on the ground near a bare spot not far from his Willow. "Ah, if only they were all that easy to find," he thought to himself. But life did not always dish out free nuts, and he was grateful (Thanks Sil!) for what ever luck came his way.
Stashing it with his hoard, he slipped back down his Willow. It was going to be a mild day, with sunshine. A few bare spots might appear for the snow was not too deep this year. He might scent a hidden tidbit. He would also investigate his neighbors hoards, if he could steal a chance. It could snow heavily any day now.

Sweet sweet success and the nuthatch currently at least seemed none the wiser. Hob quickly scuttled back to their stock pile giving the demon squirrel a little nod and then headed straight back to the slowly dwindling stock pile of the nuthatch. Hob was quite happy with their progress thus far. Ten nuts more than what they had started with? Something like that. whatever it was they were going to eat very very well. For about five minutes. Since that would be about how long it would take for the three of them to go through all of the nuts.

Bob for his part was keeping half an eye on Reginald who had progressed from scratching at the oaks roots to trying to chew through it. He'd likely break a tooth on the root if he wasn't lucky. Of course he also had to keep an eye out for that darn black squirrel.

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

It was to late. The snow was getting deeper. Mind you, the sun was warm and sweet. There were a few places were the snow had not accumulated much (under trees roots, jutting rocks and small evergreens) but still, Mister Black had had no luck. And any thieving he attempted, had not panned out as he had hoped it would.
Waking up from a morning nap, he was determined to try his luck once more. As he stretched and moved about, a piece of colorful bark (kite) stuck to the fur on his back. There were small words written on it: RISE UPON THE WIND. But some of the letters had worn off and it now read: RIP ONE WIN .

Ah, it seemed Treebeard did not understand Nuthatch. Dart was on his own to solve his size problem. If he could not get a nice downsizing back to normal, then he'd made use of his new self! Dart spent a good while excavating a new cavity (and hopefully not drawing any ire from Treebeard for it).

Once satisfied with the cavity, he returned to his nuts only to find...thieving raccoons had lived up to their bandit looks and stolen some of his nuts! "CHEEP CHEEP CHEEP" Dart scolded the raccoons and flapped vehemently at them. See how they like being stolen from...!!

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

Mister Black stood quite still. Actually he didn't move at all as he stared at the 2 acorns. Then his nose twitched and his lip quivered. He wimpered softly and hunched his small shoulders.
He was guilty. And saddened by his theft. Yes, he had been all talk about stealing from neighbors and paying them back later when times were easier - for winter was upon all the creatures and one had to survive. But now he felt terrible having taken the food right out of their mouths. Three mouths!
He suddenly kicked one of the acorns into the snow in frustration. He then grabbed himself by the scruff of the neck and started shaking himself, hoping to rattle his common sense. He too had to survive. And maybe just maybe, the raccoons didn't even know that it was him that pinched their nuts. Maybe they could still be friends.
Relieved somewhat by this notion, he decided to go roaming, to clear his head. And maybe find more nuts although, it was getting pretty hard stealing from his new neighbors.

Skwovet, Still Quite Large

An afternoon nap was just the thing to do when one had suddenly ballooned up to several times one’s natural size. Skwovet grinned evilly in her sleep as warm sunlight filtered through the trees and fell upon her. She scratched her backside with one paw, then curled cozily into a tight ball. Her tail thumped along the forest floor as she settled into a deeper sleep. Unbeknownst to her, she was sleeping near a floofy black skwirrel's stash of nuts and had reached out unconsciously toward the pile of treasures as she turned over...

All good things come to an end it seems and the win streak on stealing nuts from the nut hatch had come to an end. AND BOB had not stabbed the black squirrel from Mirkwood probably worrying about Reginald to much honestly. Very disappointed in both of them Hob narrows his eyes in an angry little huff that made him look far larger than he was as all of his fur was sitting up on end and headed to go and get their nuts back from the bleeding black squirrel.

He did not like that they were no longer the most nut blessed group in the forest but what could one do except work on fixing that predicament.

Tenebrous, the Corruption – 22 Nuts

Even evil needs to take a nap every once in a while. It’s hard finding ways to corrupt, manipulate, destroy, and hurt all the time. Sure, amateurs could do the same evil thing over and over and over again but Tenebrous was not an amateur and he was not simply going to continue to lick the nuts he stole in order to poison them. He needed to think of something else to do with them. But what? That’s when he fell asleep. His dreams were strange, filled with nuts, racoons, and brightly colored birds. When he woke, he assumed he had been able to work out a new idea for something evil, clever, and creepy. He immediately went to work on this plan, despite not quite knowing what this plan might be. New, brilliant plans always came in dreams and the dead squirrel was sure that his dreams had been no less productive. He just wanted to get a start on the plan so that when it finally hit him he would be able to enact with alarming speed. He was sure it was going to come. Any minute now. Any. Minute. Now. Soon. Very soon. There was going to be a plan and… and he was going to enact that plan as soon as that plan manifested in his mind from the dream that he’d had. By the time he started planning for his plan the dream in which this plan had surely revealed itself had begun to fade. What had he dreamed about? What time was it? How long had he slept? He was hungry, the willow trees inside his stomach groaned and growled. He was hungry. He was going to need to eat. Yes, he would eat and the plan would manifest, surely. Right? Right? He just needed some energy. He’d could get it from some nuts, not his own of course, but who should he steal from? Where was he even? That nap and nearly rendered him incoherent. Just need some food, then everything will be okay. Everything. Will. Be. Okay.

The Three Raccoons

Hob cursed his luck an threw a stick in a wee fit of clawed foot stamping rage at his inability to take even a single nut from the horrible thieving black squirrel of Mirkwood. He went found a bit of fermented fruit juice from an apple that had been sitting for far too long and drank it to calm himself down. He needed it he really did. And after a few shakey breaths where he glared at the offending squirrel he was off to try his hand at more nut thieving and Bob was looking a rather bit worried about him. This working along side the willow squirrel was making Hob a bit... angrier than normal one might say.

With that he skuttled back to the Black Squirrels stash to try to steal yet another nut.

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

It was getting pretty hard stealing from his new neighbors. Well some new neighbors. That zombie looking fellow with the white skin was not a creature Mister Black would call a neighbor, although, technically he was a neighbor because he lived near to Mister Black's Willow which was in the neighborhood. Let say that he was not a creature Mister Black would call an acquaintance, although, he was a creature that he had seen and knew of slightly but was not a close friend of which technically would make him Mister Black'[s acquaintance if the definition of acquaintance was exact. Despite the prevailing circumstances it was time to attempt to trick the creature once more and maybe get a nut or two. And so putting his best effort into it, he threw his voice (which is also known as the “distant effect” ) and began to sing in a high squirrely tenor. He was distracted only once when he saw the three raccoons approaching. Maybe they had decided to be his friend?
