Buffy Summers - UC Sunnydale
"Where aaaare you?" she asked quietly, in a high-pitched tone of voice, if only to pass the time. "A campus full of snacks awaits for the fashionably impaired. No takers?" Buffy sighed. To the outside observer it would probably look thrilling and adrenaline-packed, but most of the time patrolling was simply walking and waiting. Or sitting and waiting. Basically, a lot of waiting. She pouted as she looked around at the trees and the shrubberies along the campus pathways.
Nothing.
Discovering a long-forgotten but still nicely wrapped lollipop in her coat, Buffy opened it up absent-mindedly. Just when she popped it into her mouth, she heard something. A raised voice.
Now, Buffy had made the mistake before of rushing over to a few guys and breaking up their fight. More than once actually. When both of the guys were human, they generally did
not care for it. She had gotten angry looks and snide comments a few times - the results of the fragile male ego. Especially when a little blonde girl made it clear she had more strength than they did. Sticks and stones - but honestly it still hurt, deep down. "At least one of them should be grateful," she muttered quietly. ""Gee, thanks, Buffy!" - "You're welcome, mister rando!" - One of us feels appreciated and the other got saved; everybody's happy. Is that too much to ask?"
It usually was. So,
this time, she was wise enough to approach carefully. But once she got the pair in her line of sight, it was more than obvious. One of them had that nice California tan. Buffy had the same one. The other guy's complexion looked like skimmed milk by comparison. He had some leather on him, too. It was
way too shiny for the season. Not to mention the horrific boots.
And then there were the obvious fangs. Can't forget those. Hungrily trying to reach the tanned guy's neck.
"Mhmh!" The 'oh' was muffled by the lollipop. But muffling aside, Buffy put on her game face and ran toward the pair, pulling out Mr Pointy. When she was right behind the vampire, she airily tapped his shoulder. "Excuse me," she began in her best schoolgirl voice, "do you know where I can get a snack this time of night?"
When the vampire turned his head toward her in surprise, she backhand-punched the side of his face, throwing him off her fellow student. The vampire recovered quickly, and snarled ferociously at Buffy. He looked like he was ready to take her head off.
The other guy, the victim, the tanned strong jock - evident by his sports jacket, broad shoulders and athletic build - took one look at the vampire, a second look at Buffy, and then simply made a run for it. Buffy frowned after him, and took the lollipop from her mouth with her left hand. "Chivalry's dead," she muttered. The vampire tried to hit her face nd missed, but her hand got slapped away instead, and her lollipop rolled onto the campus pathway.
"
Hey!" Buffy protested, as offended by a demon who clearly wanted to kill her as she would have been by a teenager who was trying to cut in line for breakfast. "That one was strawberry-cream!" She did not need to mention it was the best kind. Everyone knew strawberry-cream was the best.
Angry, she took it out on the faux-leather vamp. He had to take a number of punches and kicks more than she really needed before she dusted him with her stake. Of course, the breeze picked up a bit just at the right time, and a bit of dust-vamp blew into her face - not to mention right where her poor lollipop had ended up. The Slayer gave the strawberry-cream lollipop a sad look. With a sad expression, she picked it up, blew on it, and covered it with the wrapper she'd kept in her pocket. "Let's find you a nice trash can."
Even though the vamp had not been much of a challenge, he'd still managed to deprive her from the best snack her coat currently had to offer. Maybe next time she should bring chocolate-chip cookies. Pondering this possibility, Buffy started heading toward
the Magic Box. That place deserved a bit more attention. It had been subject to destruction more than a few times too many, and Buffy had taken it upon herself to try and save Giles some money in the restoration-department.
