Where is the Complaint Box?
Religion and Unfairness
So, I say I'm not interested in discussing religion when I say Lúthien is Christ, and what I get is that @Rivvy Elf freezes the post.
Where is the Complaint Box?
Where is the Complaint Box?
My accused comment:
I think that the hostility of @Priya and @Rivvy Elf to Luthien as Christ is due to their opposition to Catholicism and that they think that this is going to be used as an argument for preaching Catholicism. Well, I used to be a proper Catholic, but I don't consider myself as one anymore. I don't mind being considered a Catholic, and I don't mind being not considered one. Usually it's non-Catholics who consider me Catholic and Catholics who consider me non-Catholic, so I would like to contraddict both of them and I'll say I am half-Catholic. I don't attend Mass, I don't esteem the Church (although there are also good people among them), and I think that there is a Goddess, and that there are neutral angels. I haven't developed a proper metaphysics of mine yet, but I could if I had time to. It would hardly be considered Orthodox Catholicism. I think it would resemble more Hindu Tantrism and Celtic Paganism, apart from believing in the Resurrection of the dead.
That being said, Luthien is clearly a female Christ. In all world mythologies, female characters who raise their beloved from the dead are almost absent. There's Isis in Egypt and Ishtar in Mesopotamia but they're both goddesses, not fairies or women. There's a woman in a Child ballad who is a striking parallel to Luthien, because she raises the dead by harping, but she only brings back a ghost. Now, Christ is the prototype of the male saviour raising the dead. In my article I pointed out that he's been considered an Orpheus, raising his lover, Mankind, from the dead. Therefore, Luthien is a female Christ and a female Orpheus. This does not mean that Christians should worship Luthien. I do, but I'm religiously unclassifiable. It means that Luthien, Christ, and Orpheus all belong to the same archetype of the Lover raising their beloved from the dead. We can call the archetype Tim, or Sue, if you prefer. I don't mind. But I'll call it Orphic Christ, and usually people understand it.

Hi @Ephtariat. Rivvy has closed the discussion *not* because you are making the argument for Luthien being Christ but because you have been accusing other plaza members, without foundation, of being anti-Catholic, simply because they disagree with your interpretation. This is unacceptable behaviour. Whether or not you’re interested in discussing religion doesn’t mean you’re free to drop accusations of this nature. Complaints may be made directly to @Narv, the site owner or to the admin email or via the report post box, or the reporting form as clearly signposted in our General Rules. As this is the correct method of making a complaint I will be closing this thread as well.
