I've been sat trying to remember if Aethelu had a proper history, but I just can't remember it for the life of me. I might have to make a fresh start and hope I can make a decent backstory for her.

@Shivased I noticed Pen and Ink is for sale in the Riddermarket, would it be possible to take it? I've got an idea for a history for Aethelu that could work into her purchasing the shop.

Here's an OOC question for my RIddermark friends; does anyone have the old cavalry badges, the round ones people used to put in their signatures? I helped create them but I don't think I have a copy of them.

@Bereth doing this on my phone now to see how it works! There's two ways to do the mention thing - if you type the @ symbol and then start typing the name of the person you're tagging right after with no space between them, a list of usernames will pop up to select from. You can also use [ mention ] username [ / mention ] (no spaces) to achieve the same thing.

And yes, it's so good to be 'home!' I really had not realized how much I missed this place until just a few days ago!

@Bereth *huggles* Great to have you back with us again. Don't know if you remember me, I went by Olwyn when I started RP'ing in Rohan. As I remember you were the one who found me in the poetry forums and showed me the ropes around Rohan and RP when I was a newbie.

@Rior Laegiel Yes I do remember you! I like your new name, it sounds very authentically Rohirric. I’d guess at the meaning, but I’d probably be wrong. It would be fun to do a thread for everyone to get a chance to explain how they came up with their names and what they mean, if they know. Especially the ones not taken directly from Tolkien’s works.

Olwyn started out as a rohirrim but later I changed her name to Olly and made her an elf. Rior is also an elf and he was Olly's hubby but he's been a widower for some years. Olwyn was a name I stole from a show called new adventures of robin hood where Christopher Lee played a wizard called Olwyn.

According to realelvish.net Laegiel means daughter of the green one. Rior is a name briefly used for an npc in an rp I had with a plaza friend in oome around the same time I first got into rp in Rohan. Don't think the name means anything but I used it as a way to remember the good old days.

But Rior's horse has a rohirric name, Siolfor, and that horse is the only character that I've kept the same (name, color, breed etc) since day one.
I do have two other rohirrim nowadays, Phink and Phiqo, not sure how rohirric their names are. Phink used to have an surname, Seirduin, that I had no clue when I came up with it was elvish which was a fun surprise. Aig pointed it out to me and helped me translate it to River of blood, even if it's not completely accurate as the elvish for blood is sereg. (If you want to know the story behind it, I walked by a clothing store for kids one day and on the window by the door they had a list of what clothing brands they had in the store and one of them was Phink Industries and I thought that Phink would make a good name for a character and it made me think of the color pink. Then I started to think if I could rearrange the letters of Industries to make a surname, and removing the s and t in the middle seirduin is almost industries read backwards).

@Bereth I remember Siolfor! That name definitely rings a bell; from races or horse-pub chats maybe?! (In true Rohir style I remember the horse's better than the rider it seems). For my name I (literally) butchered Old English until I came up with an extremely loose translation of my original plaza name, Fyrefly, mostly because another well known plazaite was Firefly and I wanted to avoid confusion while also sounding Rohirric. Beorhtlig means 'Brightfire' and is a much clearer translation, and I've been using it as my avatar ever since (WoW, Twitter, Instagram, Discord, Animal Crossing, etc.) If you ever see Beorhtlig off the plaza, chances are its me).

@Allacan Beorhtlig Actually a Cavalry Oath thread will be up soon, you read my mind on that one! I pulled one from the wayback machine, and am just editing it before putting it up this week. I have a couple Cavalry Ideas to chat with Rowena about, but we may use you for something, depending on my plan.

Nothing huge like in the old days - a thread or two. Maybe the Bathtub races and a Miss Meduseld or something, or other thread ideas people might have? (I can open a festival planning thread in a bit if there is interest.)

I can help out!!! I don't have any bright ideas, but am happy to pitch in as needed!

@Shivased Once we get our ducks in a row, this would be a really fun thing to promote in the new Inter-Kingdom thread, to bring people in from other Kingdoms. Maybe we could get the Riddermarket involved to sell festival goods, and lure more people from outside Rohan in there, as well as into the dedicated festival activity threads. Just an idea :) Maybe we could do a scavenger hunt in the market? Idk, just thinking out loud. If a Riddermarket scavenger hunt does sound like it has potential, I'd be happy to coordinate it with all the shopkeepers, and to figure out some kind of prize.

@Thalionwen ooh, I like those ideas! Ok, give me a week or so and I will put up a planning thread, and then we can plan for something in late June/early July!

@Shivased, I was hoping we’d do a festival. Would it be rushing it to plan on something like a Midsummer’s Eve Festival as theme to plan around? Perhaps there’s a Rohirric equivalent I’m blissfully unaware of. (Sort of like Mettare)

I love it! Festivals like Mettare were always one of my favourite things in Rohan.
Funny @Thalionwen I thought about a Plaza scavenger hunt the other day, but couldn't wrap my head around how it would work...did we used to have them?
