Lord of the Rings Fanatics Plaza

Husband and I may be planning to see if in laws can take the kids and do one movie each day! Both Lord of the Rings and even the plaza are woven through our love story! Anyone else who may be going to the theater?

Ooh, wonderful! Didn't hear about it coming to the cinema here though, like Aikári already said. Too bad.
However... daughter and I will be enjoying the Return of the King in concert next Saturday. No extended version but still we are very much looking forward to it.

Oh, that's fun! We did a Star Wars one a few years ago, where the philharmonic orchestra live played the score while they projected the movie! That was great. (Husband is a Star Wars fan.)

That’s amazing they are bring those back out. I remember doing a marathon of those a few years ago. That was at home though. Not sure if I could do it in the theater…course are they doing this everywhere or just select cities?

Husband and I went to the Fellowship, yesterday and the Two Towers yesterday. Seeing it back in the movie theater is so powerful!! Lots of YOUNG people in the theater as well.
I heard one Gen Z kid that seemed about my age when I first saw the movies talk to another, right before the Fellowship started. "No. Sam. Sam is the GOAT! Frodo would have never made it without him."

Hahaha, the GOAT! So glad to hear that there were lots of young people. I am not much of a movie fan, but I do think the movies keep Tolkien relevant, no matter how they twist his works. Hopefully, these young people will someday pick up the books.

I remember being young (hahahaha), at least I was somewhere in my tweens, when the first movies came out and I wasn't going to see them before I read the trilogy. So I missed going to the first movie with my friends, but saw the other two with them, because once I started reading the trilogy, I couldn't stop!
Still think the books are so much better, but PJ helped me to 'see' certain things that I couldn't see by just reading them.

@Drífa Considering that at least one already KNEW that Sam was the GOAT, maybe at least one of them already has? My son, who got a LOTR Lego set when he was 6 or so didn't like FOTR when we introduced it a year or two ago. This surprised me. (Though general he is more of a Sci Fi fan than Fantasy. And he IS a Trekkie so I did something right there.) He started reading the books about half a year or so ago and did like them.
Today he saw the movie in the theater again (He is a college student. I offered to pay for it if he WANTED to) and liked it more having READ the fellowship. (He is debating whether he wanted to see ROTK since he isn't there in the books yet. He is one of those "I am currently reading these five books" people.) But he already 'heard' that so much has changed between the books and the movies that he might risk it.

Also it was so amazing seeing them in the theater with my husband. After all.. the movies are kind of how I GOT a husband!!

That's right, 22 years after seeing all three movies in a theatre on 'Trilogy Tuesday', my wife Alqualisse and I are going to do it again on January 24th.

The content of the movies and my well-documented issues I have with these movies aside, it's more of a 'life' thing for us...

If it weren't for the making of these movies, Alqualisse and I would never have met on The One Ring .com (TORc) forum in 2001.

We wouldn't have bridged the half a world to meet in person and attend the Trilogy Tuesday event in Spokane Washington in 2003.

We wouldn't have gotten together as life-partner soulmates in 2007. We've been married 17 years now, and so we're doing this for old time sake!

@Hanasian That is so very similar to my story! We didn't need on a LOTR related site, but we bonded on a different one over a love for Lord of the Rings. Completely and utterly coincidental, someone I knew from the plaza knew my husband in real life, which we only found out after we had met elsewhere. He crossed to a different continent to meet me. I moved to a different continent to be with him. This summer we will be married 20 years!

We met online on September 11 2001 in a group role-play story on The One Ring (com). We started in the site's PM function as we talked about the attacks. Of course, our chatting then and our role-playing then never had any indication that we would eventually be attracted to each other. For one thing, we both were married and on opposite sides of the globe. It wasn't until much later that life circumstances for us both steered us onto a collision course.

I think my wife may have been registered here on fanatics way back in the day. We tended to infest the Lord of the Rings sites back in 2001-2003 before we created our own Tolkien forum after I got banned from TORc (long story). I told her about this site's resurrection in 2020 but she said she had 'outgrown' forums.

It is good we'll be in a movie theatre on the 24th as the day's temperature is supposed to go north of 40°C (104°F)

I missed out on seeing ROTK extended Edition in the theaters because of the stupid STORMS. I can watch it on TV but it's not the same! However, my son, who is off to college and wasn't as affected by the storm, has finally seen the movies and liked them. He sort of was 'meh' when we tried to show them at home, so we didn't push.

Now aside from sharing Star Trek opinions, we can share LOTR opinions. (He's also reading the books of course. He was hesitating about wanting to see ROTK because he hadn't gotten there in the book yet but he 'heard' that there were enough differences to see it as two different entities).
Bonus, we share the same favorite scene!

A long time ago, there were reports that the Lord of the Rings trilogy would be re-released in 3D in theaters. What was the outcome? That's what I'm most curious about.

I went and saw the 1st Hobbit movie in 48fps 3D. It was nice, but had to go see it again as a normal theatre movie.
I had not heard about the Lord of the Rings movies being re-released in 3D. I don't think I'd go and see it if it was, because I did get a headache when I watched the Hobbit movie.
