The roads were clearer now, and safer every day. After the war it was possible again to send word to people from far and away. The fires had burned down the old post office and in it's stead a new building had been raised, right next to the cavalry headquarters.
Through here all information seemed to flow. Letters to scholars in Minas Tirith came through here, and orders for pipe weed from the Shire, love letters, and long missives that held families together through different lands. At the same time Cavalry dispatches, reports and orders sent straight to cavalry members here or in the further eoreds, were brought to those they were addressed to by cavalry members especially assigned to that duty. Packages and letters could be delivered, and for those not able to write, couriers would listen to messages and bring them word by word to those who needed to hear them.

There are always two people on staff, Hengest a cavalry veteran and his wife Saehild. Both of them rule with utter discipline over a staff that consist of young, temporary assigned cavalry members and a group strong lads that can bring packages, deliver letters and most of the time remember all of the words you wanted them to say.

Thread rules:
This is an In Character Roleplay thread for missives, packages, letters and cavalry orders.
Be creative, have fun, send weird stuff, send serious stuff.
Please keep ooc whited out at the bottom of missives and tag people!

*the missive was delivered at an ungodly early hour. It wasn't even fully dawn, but it was handed directly from the hands of a cavalry man into the hands of Haddassa. He waited a moment to see if you could read it, but considering it had been given to him in writing it was how he delivered it: a small, square, sealed with the personal mark of Feldmarshal Guthbrand.*

"Your orders have changed. You are to escort Xyler of Wyndhorne, lately of Meduseld, on a journey to Minas Tirith and guard his safety. Your assignment starts this morning, and will be cleared with your commanding officers. If you need to leave instructions to handle certain matters here, they will be tended to."

Guthbrand,
Feldmarshal"

Merewyn
In Need of a Scribe: Pt. I

She had been in Edoras for a short time, staying at the Eallníwe Inn, and trying to adjust back into life in Rohan. But things were different than she had expected them to be. She found that she had missed out on much of her culture due to the age at which she was orphaned. There was much that she knew and had gotten to participate in during her childhood, but the formative years of her teens and young adulthood had been passed in the wilderness and eventually in the Bree-land. Merewyn found that there were customs and practices she had not encountered before, little things that caused her moments of pause and embarrassment amongst the Rohirrim. Most folk were kind enough to correct her, usually privately, to save her the shame of public confrontation, yet it did little to assuage her shame.

She felt an outcast, adrift in a land that she was born to but not of. She tried to reconcile that in her mind but often found herself frustrated with herself. Had she just stayed in Rohan after her family was slain, how different might things be? Had she gone eastward to find the villages that her other relatives lived in, would she have changed as a person? Would she be wedded by know? Would there be little children of her own making, running around a farmstead? She had no answers to her own questions but spent more time that she liked pondering them. One thing she was sure of though, was that regardless of what had happened to her over the years, she was happy that she had spent the time she had in the Bree-land. The Big and Little-folk of the Bree-land were good hearted and kind people by nature, if a little suspicious of outsiders at first. But in the span of time she had lived there she had felt welcomed, she had made friends, and the people of those little villages made a large impact on her life.

As days turned to weeks in Edoras, she began to miss the friends she had left behind. She would write them if she could, but she had never learned her letters, not in childhood in Smoltwaeter nor in adulthood in Bree. There had been opportunities to, especially as she often rode between the Bree-land and the Shire delivering messages for others. But it had been a selling point of hers that she was illiterate, as there was no worry of her reading the contents of anyone's letters that they sent. She cursed her own foolishness now, upon realizing that she had no way to communicate again with her friends without riding all the way back, which she had no intention of doing quite yet.

One day, a few weeks into her stay in the capital of Rohan, she chanced upon a building near to the Cavalry Headquarters. It was a building for messengers, or so she surmised from the steady stream of riders in and out and the half dozen horses stabled nearby. It occurred to her then that maybe there might be someone there who could help her. A teacher would be nice, but she didn't think she had the time or the coin to afford that right now, as finding work was more of a priority as her coin was running dry. But perhaps someone there could write a letter for her, if she dictated it, and deliver it to her friends back in Bree. She strolled across the byway and made her way into the building, ducking her head beneath the frame and jostling her hair out of her face.

The room was busy, with messengers going to and fro with packages and letters and all assortments of odd items and deliveries. There was a stern looking man and equally stern looking woman nearby who seemed to be giving directions to all of the lads running about the building. Merewyn bobbed and weaved through the mingling crowd of messengers until she found herself before the woman. She nodded a greeting towards her and, when a moment came where she could speak said, "Hello! My apologies for bothering you, you seem quite busy. I need to send a letter, and I am in need of some assistance, if you could help me?"

"Letter or messenger?" The question came from a rather harried Saehild, who was beckoning a young lad with one hand and trying to shove a package with her hand into a specific spot in the small handacrt with the other, without somehow toppling everything that was already in there. As soon as the package was actually in place, and she had a hand on the young man's arm, she actually smiled.

"Of course. You need me to write it down for you, or do you wish one of the lads to just bring the message. They're well trained and won't be adding any guff, right?" That last was clearly added for the specific boy she was holding onto, who apparently had some things to learn still.

((OOC: @Merewyn This thread is mostly for messages themselves, and less for the RP. So basically you are free to rp Hengest and Saeheld yourself in a small intro, so we can have a description of the message, like handwriting, or whether someone needs to bring it orally, or if it's cavalry or any little detail you think is important to add, and then the message itself is the main part of the post. The reaction to it, can be someone else's message, or can be played out in other threads. Let me know if I am making any sense! And do please feel free to add your message in the next post!! I am curious!!.
