Songify the Room (You're Tearing Me Apart)
I cannot believe how catchy this is
What're you listening to?
Viagra Boys, Punk Rock Loser.
My 2 year old daughter and me watch this video as I put her to bed. The song ends 'I'm loose!' and my daughter demands the song by pointing at my laptop and telling me 'MaMoose!'
Edit. I had to edit this because I got the age of my daughter wrong. I have too many kids!

This is by the same band - the Viagra Boys. The lyrics are really wonderful and may even have some bearing on the Elf-towers and stones of The Lord of the Rings, or so the song suggests to me.As canon has it, the tower the stairs of which Elendil climbed when he wished to look beyond the horizon was built by Elves, though they gave it to him as a gift (along with two others of lesser height).
Ain't No Thief
Burglary is at the very heart of Hobbit canon.
Eat earth. Dig deep. Drink water.
Inspired by the stairway to heaven, another band from the same era who on occasion channel Tolkien and Middle-earth. Do you know Traffic? They were from Birmingham (like Tolkien), and rented a house on the edge of the Berkshire Downs (Bombadil country) in which they made some amazing music. I watched a documentary on them on YouTube and this song was said to have been the moment the music came together.

That is pretty good! And makes me feel even more irked by my present shape as a Thrush. As a tree, at least my roots went down, down, down, underground.
I was wondering if the Admins would let me 'donate' my Thrush tribute identity to you in tribute for your Chubb-Baggins riddle? Probably not, but Admin prodding is always something to do when bored. Talking of which, I still miss @Fuin Elda.

That song by the Jam blew my little mind when it came out - i was about 13 and remember hearing it on my radio-alarm clock waking me up for school one day (probably a Wednesday). It seems very old when i see the video now - angry, spotty young men from London, not punks but mods (very important to be aware of those distinctions back then if you did not want to get beaten up).
This is the best song by the Jam, in terms of lyrics. It still sends me back to the London of the 1970s and 1980s that i grew up in.

Dunno why i'm posting The Jam as i don't really like them (mods = yuk!) Here is a song to stir the bones of an Englishman!
Eat earth. Dig deep. Drink water.
Yay! delete all the above. finally found a song that is actually appropriate. This from 1932, when J.R.R. Tolkien was mid-way through writing The Hobbit.

*prods back* Woops.

When i play too many songs on this thread is always a sign its time to step up and on. This is the band i came in on above, and one of the good things i found this year. this song is the second of two, the first titled 'i aint nice.'

Have not seen live music for years. All my experience is via youtube these days. These seem the best punk outfit out there. This song is dedicated to the Admins.

Sifting through some comfy synth, I found a glorious warm and comforting split album: Snawfuss / Hermit Knight - Rendezvous
Naturally, I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

I'm trying to wean myself off of this thread. Maybe this is the last? Another artist from the slim stream of tradition received from my mum.

You are a bad influence on me, Drifa. Another song about the thin blue line: Smiley Culture, Police Officer.
Them didn't look the type of police me could give a fiver...

Look, I do appreciate this is real nice stuff. And I'm not trying to knock it off the spot, honest. But as I said, I need help to wean myself from this thread, and the Dwarf does not help, and I am in the middle of researching my Tolkien studies post and so listening to the Sex Pistols and, basically, this one is a live concert from 2007 and I wish so much I was there right now - o yes! Just look at those people in the audience! And look at the Pistols - they are old men. Even older than me!Drifa wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2023 9:56 amI really enjoyed this.Lorenzo Pee wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 2:38 am Sifting through some comfy synth, I found a glorious warm and comforting split album: Snawfuss / Hermit Knight - Rendezvous

PS. Some French subtitles have been added for northern Dwarves.
PPS. But look, am I not right? Are not all of these people, band and audience, Hobbits? Look carefully. These are original mushroom artists.

If we want something hobbit-y why not try Hole Dweller. Each album or EP is a part of a narrative of one "Jamwine" with old school dungeon synth sounds combined with the mandolin.
Strange Fruit got holes in the flesh but it ain't gonn' spoil cause it never was fresh
Right, really and truly the last thing I want is a passionate argument about anything, least of all Hobbity music. I come in peace and pretend no authority. I just say what seems to me.Lorenzo Pee wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2023 3:32 pm If we want something hobbit-y why not try Hole Dweller. I like the Hole Dweller track, and I can see why it counts as hobbity. But it is a Shire hobbity of a certain medieval feel - one expects a church with bells not too far away. It is a Christmasy hobbity, and that is 100 per cent true hobbity, no argument.
But I give you as alternative a track from My Life in a Hole in the Ground, debut album of African Head Charge (1981).
Hobbits were always a bit Christmasy, and all about comfort. But in the original story of Bilbo Baggins Hobbits are not so much the folk of the English countryside but suburban creatures. As such, I encourage you to think of the groups of Hobbit lads and lasses gathering in the evenings, lighting a bonfire on the side of a hill having a wild party. I reckon the music would be more like this, at least in Undertowers.

This place is like a central London office tower on weekends. Like posters work a 9 to 5, and then clock off. Require overtime to post on weekends or something. What is really weird, though, is that it is also like a retirement home.

Last on Ian Dury. This is one of the first songs I turned my children on to. A morning and return home from school song.

I was trying to work out if that photo was me and you.
We share much musical tastes, Dwarf. Your rediscovery sent me back to the Cramps.
But I am supposed to step away from all that 80s music. How about:
Alpha Blondy - Jerusalem
Btw, @Drifa. Playing the last Ian Dury to my children prompted a proud father moment when my son explained the song in terms of what he called "Gollum time". When pushed to explain the phrase it turned out that Gollum time is experienced in a classroom with a clock the invisible movement of the long hand of which is the only thing in the entire room worth checking.

Counting time and riddles was all he knew. Smart kid,
I am spending my afternoon in the mines with Foxtrot , day dreaming that I was a Watcher of the Skies (and I don't mean watching for lizard's shedding their tales), and not a canary in a coal mine.
Then felt I like some watcher of the skies
When a new planet swims into his ken; Homer

Never listened to Genesis before (put off by a teacher when I was about 11 who told the class that Genesis was her favourite band). But that is pretty good. Will listen more.
I love this song so much. It hits me a bit like LZ Tangerine. But this one makes me so sad.

Oi, oi, oi! Dwarf! You have told off me and others before for posting chat on the riddle thread without first supplying at least a token guess. Don't see how this thread is different - if you want to chat, gotta post a song.
