Jupiter is like Saturn.

But it just doesn't have the same ring to it.

My sincerest apologies for the tragic pun.

Moving on, the point of this was actually just because I was wondering if anyone else was going to be looking out for this conjunction thing we have going on soon? I don't consider myself even an amateur star-gazer, but I do quite like looking sky-wards when it occurs to me to do so, and this feels like a pretty cool event for people into that sort of thing. Here's to hoping for clear skies here tomorrow (come on Nia, get real, there's zero chance of that happening, it's 2020).

We're actually supposed to have clear skies here for a change at the right time, so I'm planning to watch for it. It's also supposed to be warmer than normal, so I guess that's a plus!

I hope the skies will be clear enough to see the beautiful splendor of their meeting. It's been rainy for days here in Virginia on America's east coast.

Snow here sadly did want to see it have near zero light pollution where I am.

I knew this rang a bell! Not really related to watching the conjuction in the present day, but rather some interesting historical tidbits in a Twitter thread for you.

Woohoo well, looking forward to hearing how everyone fares in their various locations, snowy and otherwise! And thanks @Nessa Saelind , will give that a read!

It’s supposed to be clear for me tonight. Hopefully I’ll be able to spot it, even though stars can be a bit hard to see with all the light pollution in my area.

Hubby and I were able to see it! We only had a cheap pair of binoculars, but it was sufficient to at least see the two planets side by side/on top of each other. Couldn't see rings or moons though, alas.

I’m able to see it as well! No binoculars alas, but I am able to make out the bright dot(s?) that are planets.

Well in keeping with my gloomy predictions, I had a completely starless and moonless night! Super psyched you guys both got to see it though!

Seems like the next conjunction will be in 2040 (although apparently they'll be 11 times further apart than they were last night), so I guess I'll resurrect this thread in 20 years' time.

I have been keeping an eye out for it for the past week or so, but the sky is wall to wall clouds all day and night, unsurprising for December. I thought about popping outside at work to see it this evening, and then I heard a heavy rain pouring down on the roof. :brickwall:

They'll still be fairly close for the next few days, so you might still have a chance to see them.
