1. Why did you join the Plaza/Why do you come back?
I first joined to do some quizzes and ended up staying. I was in awe of all of these “kids” who wrote such detailed and articulate posts. I came back because I’ve missed it over the years (and I’ve lurked around here occasionally too). I’m in a place now where I can spend time on the Plaza again.
2. What is/are some of your favourite memory/ies of the Plaza?
I have all of my GM notes for everything – many binders-full of all kinds of notes. I still take them out and read them every so often and it brings back so many wonderful memories of people and places. There are lists of people’s names who are long gone, but never forgotten. There were SO many people around
Role playing in Minas Tirith was like having another chance at being a totally different person, getting to play, work and have adventures in a place that doesn’t exist – but in our minds, it did and still does!!
Getting to knight people.
Inter-kingdom races.
Middle-earth Olympics.
The Shoutbox in Valinor (just a load of silliness!).
The Pubs were always such fun places to just RP with people of all races.
Some of those late nights staying up on group IM chats with either one or many people at once. I was thankful to just be considered one of the gang, even though I’m older than many here.
Getting to meet so many of you in person (there’s a list somewhere!) and having you sign the Red Book!
I loved all the research involved to write/GM realistic/plausible posts – I still have all of those books too.
Being asked to be a Pubmaster alongside Arteris (omg, we had so many arguments – but all in fun, mostly haha), then to take over Ranger Basic Training, then being Commander of the Rangers and Games Master of MT, then Ruler (with Arteris again!) and then an Administrator. I went from a slobbering, terrified newbie to Admin (it took a few years) – how crazy was that?
I think one cool thing about the Plaza was getting to watch so many kids and college students grow up here – getting jobs and families. I still see many of them on Facebook posting pictures of their kids and grown-up selves. One example is Arteris/Jevesh, who was a teenager when I came across him. He was a kid who wrote a funny, snotty, Merlot-loving character when I first joined the Plaza. I remember when he started college, changed majors, got a girlfriend, got married and is now a respected journalist for a newspaper. I just came across a Christmas card from him that he sent to my husband & I a few years ago along with a bottle of Merlot!
3. Your most embarrassing moment(s)?
Screwing up when I first tried to role play, which I’d never done or even heard of before I joined the Plaza. Naith was such a great GM and explained to me so gently.
Also, because I was using voice recognition software, there were always zingers in my posts that I of course never realized until I already hit “reply.”
4. Were you ever intimidated by any of the big scary RAM team? (BOO).
Absolutely! I saw all of these posts with fancy pictures next to their names, and then seeing them role play their characters as well. I thought they must all have some kind of special powers to be able to do that. Lol When I became a Ruler/Admin I realized they were all just normal people like me (of course, I use “normal” in the lightest sense of the word. Lol)
5. Any members you'd like to note here who have made a difference in your Plaza time/Any words you'd like to share with them?
There are so many!! Taranuen, Dirion, Pell, Arteris/Jevesh, Naith, Laie, Hoyamir, Dunnotar, Wiebkes, Veo, Beren Camlost, Sil, Lanthy, Brandybuck, Hoth, halfir, Pele, Daywalker, Umbar, Karis, Etharei, Tarfan, Udan, Lieryn, Ann Kallagon, Eleowyn, Arnyn, Nerwen, Galastel, Trey, Biki, Naira, Kaldaka, Karis, Indo, Emus, Ren, Lady Aíkiri, Thali, BB…. And OMG, I know I’ve forgotten about a million, but these are just a few anyway.
Everyone who I RP’ed with and GM’ed for & with. You guys put your trust in me (and I was always terrified I’d totally screw up – and I did occasionally!).
6. What is one of your favourite activities currently on the Plaza/Your favourite thing about the Plaza.
Well, I’ve only just returned and it’s like starting all over again with Findy (who I didn’t want to just toss out), so I’m just getting used to how everything works again.
7. If you could prank the entire Plaza, no holds barred, what would you do?
Well, let’s see – MT has already been turned pink (thanks to Arteris/Jevesh when I went to Finland to visit Taranuen and left him in charge – lol). I don’t know if I could top that.

1. Why did you join the Plaza/Why do you come back? I joined because my two best friends did, back in 2002, and we would spend lunch break at school on here. I came back because I love the people, the energy and the creativity here.
2. What is/are some of your favourite memory/ies of the Plaza? I have enjoyed so many things over 18 years, it is hard to pick favourites, but off the top of my head - being given the Order of Merlin, 3rd Class by the greats in Isengard, getting to edit the Heren Istarion Elen in Isengard, and then the Middle Earth Messenger with Star Flower who I idiolised, reading halfir's posts, being recognised for my contributions with ATR/SCR ranks, Halloween!, burning down Fangorn
3. Your most embarrassing moment(s)? There was a LOT of foo at the start. A LOT
4. Were you ever intimidated by any of the big scary RAM team? (BOO). No, many of them were my friends before they were RAM, and that never really changed. I wasn't very naughty anyway.

Oh wow, I think I filled out the original version of this a few years ago. Thanks for bringing it back! I don't remember what all my answers were; I imagine these will be mostly the same, though my perspective may have shifted on some subjects.
1. Why did you join the Plaza/Why do you come back? I initially found the Plaza through the 111 question quiz and I'm pretty sure I made an account so I could take the Knowledge Halls. I made a few posts right off the bat, but didn't become truly active for almost two years. At that point, my initial motivation was just a desire to talk about Tolkien since I didn't know anyone IRL with the same passion as me. Once I ventured into the OOME section and started to make close friends, that became the main attraction of the Plaza for me, and remains so to this day.
2. What is/are some of your favourite memory/ies of the Plaza? Too many to even recall right now, much less list. But any time I made a thread that was well received--my fan club in LLL, The Purist Manifesto in Movies (though I no longer hold much in common with my 15-year-old self's beliefs on adaptations), various effort posts in Lore, various shire in both Lore and OOME--has to feature highly in a recounting of my Plaza career.
3. Your most embarrassing moment(s)? I made some very desperate posts in search of attention early in my Plaza career, including at least one moment in an LLL thread where I straight-up admitted to my motivation. I had a lot of other cringey teenage moments over the next three years or so, but the Plaza proved to be a highly educational experience for more than just Lore, and did wonders for both my online and IRL social skills.
4. Were you ever intimidated by any of the big scary RAM team? (BOO). In my early days, absolutely--especially the ones from Mordor.
5. Any members you'd like to note here who have made a difference in your Plaza time/Any words you'd like to share with them? Far too many to list--and too many meaningful words to try to string together when I'm so behind on sleep--but a non-exhaustive list of some of the most important names in my Plaza history includes: Aisil Dagda, dear friend and sympathetic ear during some of the lowest points of my Plaza career; Alkthoniel, who set me on a path that dominated the next seven years of my life by giving me my start in forum governance; @Baingíl Randír, the closest friend I've ever had and an integral part of my life in various ways over the past decade; Elennáro, one of the first friends I made on the Plaza through Lore and later the families as well; Enoden, who let me adopt him in an absurd (successful) scheme to insinuate myself near the top of several family trees; Fíriel Silverswan, frequent conversation partner in the second half of my period of greatest activity; halfir (RIP), for obvious reasons; geordie, for everything he did to help make the Lore fora the premier venue for serious Tolkien discussion for so many years; Loslote Girarion, the first online friend I ever met IRL; Maldir (RIP), another Lore/OOME/RP all-rounder, greatly missed; Naia Nightwatch, for remarkable patience and understanding of my fumbling attempts at fitting in; @Nia Dunami, who adopted me into the wonderful, wacky world of Plaza families and who I admire as a big sister to this day; Thali Dunami, who put up with a lot more from me than she had to; Tree, valued partner in tag-team movie debates; Valeh Eltoran, the best and most supportive little sister I could've asked for; and @Veowyn, who went out of her way to keep in touch on Facebook even as I drifted away from the Plaza itself.

1. Why did you join the Plaza/Why do you come back? I joined because I was a total rebel!
Seriously though. My mom did not care for LotR much, and she really does not like role play. So one day while grounded I looked up "lotr roleplay site" and this was actually the second on that list. I stalked for about a week before joining. I came back again and again because I really do love the writing, and all the friends I have made here. I come back now because I have been missing this place so much, how could I not the moment the chance arrived.
2. What is/are some of your favourite memory/ies of the Plaza? There are so many! Meeting Maldir here was one of the best things in my life. Thoreandan's proposal still remains one of the most romantic moments I have ever read! and just the all around shinanigans all over
3. Your most embarrassing moment(s)? hmm, probably my first post, I godmoded someone :oops: and was reprimanded swiftly.
4. Were you ever intimidated by any of the big scary RAM team? (BOO). not so much at first, but there was a point where some "inappropriate" posts happened, and I was sure I was going to get banned! (someone else involved in that RP did get banned! :? :shock:

RIP my friend, I miss you so much, this place still doesn't feel the same without you. There was Falswen and Gildor who were my first adopted plaza family. Leggy and Issy were the first people to RP with me at all (leggy was the one to get on my case about that godmode
) There is Isolde and FIndy and Arien Silverleaf who were like mentors to me. of course Bear/Aig and Runi/Rowena and Oro who other than Maldir were/are probably closest with me outside the plaza.I still talk to Ten, Moriel, Age, Silver, Merana, Karis, Pele, Gabbi and Halswen(my adopted daughters lol ), Eldy, occasionally too. Thoreandan Balin Sil Aerlinn Ducky made an impact on my plaza time too. And now I am feeling bad cause I think I got some names wrong and I know I am missing so many!

First I joined because of quizzes, and then I saw RPG stuff and - was stuck. As for return... how could I stay away when seeing all the familiar names?!
2. What is/are some of your favourite memory/ies of the Plaza?
The first roleplaying experience in a newbie RPG in Rohan. :D When writing the 2-liner posts was completely acceptable. Forming friendships/plaza family ties during it.
Definitely all the Gondor stuff: Ranger training, Houses of Healing, also the games occasionally!
Probably much more that I can't think of right away.

Hmm, not sure. As a newbie I was very shy and didn't post anything silly, didn't get in any trouble... Can't think of anything too obvious.

1. Why did you join the Plaza/Why do you come back? Back in 2002 after FOTR came out I had met some people via AIM chat rooms and we played trivia games on AIM. One of the guys - who you all know as Morim - joined the Plaza early and after a few months of him egging me on, I joined as well. I was VERY active from 2003-2006 and sporadically active until about 2010 when I got married and had kids. I came back for a hit of nostalgia, to see some old friends, and to have some fun.
2. What is/are some of your favourite memory/ies of the Plaza? Debates, Word Sleuth, making classic rock references whenever possible, Song Parodies, General Silliness, Hotel California, anything that happened in Fangorn, and the Olympics
3. Your most embarrassing moment(s)? Um....I was like 16 or 17 when I first joined and got into some fairly heated arguments online with people during my teenage years. Not exactly my proudest moments.
4. Were you ever intimidated by any of the big scary RAM team? (BOO). No, but um....see previous answer.
5. Any members you'd like to note here who have made a difference in your Plaza time/Any words you'd like to share with them? Kitara, Eoarod, Kaja, RowRohRo, Morim, Tele, Peleg, Turin and a while bunch others I'm probably forgetting. Anyone who ever did Debate or spent time in Fangorn. It warms my heart to see how many people fondly remember the ol' Forest and doing Debate.
6. What is one of your favourite activities currently on the Plaza/Your favourite thing about the Plaza. I don't think I have the time to do Debate again but oh man there was nothing like the micdrop feeling of hitting "send" on a debate post at 11:58pm.

Not specifically a "prank" but someone mentioned Halloween icons in another thread and I was trying to remember back to what crazy icons we came up with when I was a ruler for Halloween. It might've been Spaceballs or something like that.
2. What is/are some of your favourite memory/ies of the Plaza? Debates, Word Sleuth, making classic rock references whenever possible, Song Parodies, General Silliness, Hotel California, anything that happened in Fangorn, and the Olympics
3. Your most embarrassing moment(s)? Um....I was like 16 or 17 when I first joined and got into some fairly heated arguments online with people during my teenage years. Not exactly my proudest moments.
4. Were you ever intimidated by any of the big scary RAM team? (BOO). No, but um....see previous answer.
5. Any members you'd like to note here who have made a difference in your Plaza time/Any words you'd like to share with them? Kitara, Eoarod, Kaja, RowRohRo, Morim, Tele, Peleg, Turin and a while bunch others I'm probably forgetting. Anyone who ever did Debate or spent time in Fangorn. It warms my heart to see how many people fondly remember the ol' Forest and doing Debate.
6. What is one of your favourite activities currently on the Plaza/Your favourite thing about the Plaza. I don't think I have the time to do Debate again but oh man there was nothing like the micdrop feeling of hitting "send" on a debate post at 11:58pm.
7. If you could prank the entire Plaza, no holds barred, what would you do? 1. Why did you join the Plaza/Why do you come back? I think I found the Plaza via the Knowledge Halls. I was probably searching for some LOTR quiz or trivia of some sort, as I was apt to do as a teenager. Low and behold, I discovered this crazy community of wonderful people. Came back for the nostalgia and to hang out with some old friends.
2. What is/are some of your favourite memory/ies of the Plaza? Getting a chance to make Middle Earth real to me. Honestly, the Plaza is probably the place that introduced me to the concept of fandoms and fanfiction.
3. Your most embarrassing moment(s)? Probably any time I tried to post in depth things in Lore. There was also a time when I tried to run a game of "guess the initials" for various characters. That was interesting to say the least.
4. Were you ever intimidated by any of the big scary RAM team? (BOO). Yes. They were all lovely people, but some of them tended to scare me with the smarts.
5. Any members you'd like to note here who have made a difference in your Plaza time/Any words you'd like to share with them? There's too many to name, but some that quickly come to mind are Nia, Aig, Uruva, Aisil (I don't know if she's here on Nu plaza). Thanks for putting up with a crazy teenager who didn't know the first thing about RPing.
6. What is one of your favourite activities currently on the Plaza/Your favourite thing about the Plaza. I like how it exploded basically out of nowhere and grew to 100+ members (nearly all of who sound familiar) in less than three days. Goes to show how special this community is.

1. Why did you join the Plaza/Why do you come back? Hmm..I was hitting my rebellious / angst / teenage years. Lord of the rings was very big for me, especially growing up in a small town with little to do. I always enjoyed reading books to escape the mundane life of a small town girl. So roleplay was almost like i could bring characters to life and go on my own adventures. Now that it is back, somewhat, i felt the nostalgia tingle and i had to re-join right away!
2. What is/are some of your favourite memory/ies of the Plaza? Oh, there was so many. Being chained up in mordor. lot of battles or fighting rpgs. always ending up tripping or ruining romantic moments for others in the lawn of lorien. (Sorry, clumsy!) Starting verbal fights with woodland creatures. Yelling at the wolves i raised or the kids i became a surrogate mother too. Avoiding proposals like a plague..that sort of thing.
3. Your most embarrassing moment(s)? Laughing loudly and whacking a prospective partner with a pot when he came to ask my hand. Embarrassed afterwards, once i realized what was happening. I know now, an apology would of been much better suited to the situation then a pot to the face.
4. Were you ever intimidated by any of the big scary RAM team? (BOO). No? I mean, i did get growled at because i was 'trouble' mostly because i always ended up in weird situations and i got a lot of tsks, that isn't very elvish or graceful or peaceful. yeah. XD
5. Any members you'd like to note here who have made a difference in your Plaza time/Any words you'd like to share with them? Sidra (My beloved daughter) from back then. Ult (My dearest friend) Few other family members that sort of grew the Nenharma tree line. I don't recall all their names sadly, either changed or lost to the internet shredder. Hopefully, they will all come back and the names will click. On here and eventually in rl, they brought a lot of love and light to mine. Internally grateful for the friendships i formed with them all.
6. What is one of your favourite activities currently on the Plaza/Your favourite thing about the Plaza. In the old plaza, I used to roleplay a lot in either Mordor or Lorien. Sometimes i delved in other areas if a character i was involved with, was there. Sometimes the twins (npc characters of mine) got into mischief in isengard following ult. Other then that, i did a lot poetry and story writing. Wish i could find my Lilath's backstory but it seems lost.
7. If you could prank the entire Plaza, no holds barred, what would you do? Make everyone have a weird opposite day. Where they make mistakes, clumsy, stupid or out of character moments that their character would never do.

1. Why did you join the Plaza/Why do you come back?
Loved the films and wanted somewhere to shriek about how excited I was in 2003 ... I liked the people I met, I liked their clever humour (yay wizzies) ... and my life back then was pretty lonely, living in London and working a lot. It was an escape. Why do I come back to it? Good memories, and I like to dabble.
2. What is/are some of your favourite memory/ies of the Plaza?

1. Why did you join the Plaza/Why do you come back? I joined for Tolkien-related fun and games and stayed for the community. Came back for that aspect, as well.
2. What is/are some of your favourite memory/ies of the Plaza? Definitely being a goofy Maia with @Mor Toast and setting up fun and games in the Cottage.
3. Your most embarrassing moment(s)? Nothing crazy springs to mind but I'm sure there are stories.
4. Were you ever intimidated by any of the big scary RAM team? (BOO). Not particularly, just in awe of the shiny icons. And then I became one and got to know everyone and was even less scared.

1. Why did you join the Plaza/Why do you come back? I think it was the Knowledge Halls, you had to sign up to take the quiz. I came back just before the old plaza crashed and was just getting back into rp'ing again and then couldn't :( So jumped at the opportunity when Narv created this one and omg I missed it! <3
2. What is/are some of your favourite memory/ies of the Plaza? RP'ing my switch to Mordor. Killing off Edain's character. The many friendships I made and the crazy time on chat. Roh's hairy legs :P
3. Your most embarrassing moment(s)? Being a complete newb with computers and putting my own name in when asked for a username. Being caught out at being a complete twhit twoo (also my biggest regret).

1. Why did you join the Plaza/Why do you come back? I first joined because a friend from school told me about it and said it was a lot of fun, and as I liked the books (and the films) I thought I'd see what it was all about. Turns out I loved the creativity of RPing (which is all I used to do). I'm pretty sure this place did wonders for my vocabulary and general creative writing ability - I'm sure I owe all my grades in English and English lit to the hours I spent here in my teenage years. But I come back now for the people - I love the connections being built with people from all over the world. I love the sense of community and belonging. I love the silliness and the memories of years gone by. I love that coming and posting on a forum seems so brilliantly old-school in a world where everything else seems to be racing forward to the 22nd century at a thousand miles an hour.
2. What is/are some of your favourite memory/ies of the Plaza? I loved all the RPing I used to do in Rohan, and then in Fangorn. I was obsessed with the houses, particularly Aisil's Dagda house and all the Dagdas and Dunamis. I loved posting in Estë purple and all the terms I discovered and would only ever use on the Plaza like: glomping, tackleglomping, even the occasional superhuggletackleglomp back in the day, simuls, dupes, spamming, plazaites, whiting out OOC posts and feeling like a spy leaving secret messages for people etc etc
3. Your most embarrassing moment(s)? I find reading back all my old posts generally quite cringe-inducing. I'm sure there were many, but generally I am a being who tries to avoid embarrassment at all costs, and is therefore quite good at erasing embarrassing memories from future recollection!
4. Were you ever intimidated by any of the big scary RAM team? (BOO). Yeah, I think I was pretty terrified of most of them, tbh. Getting a direct address from one of them always felt a bit like meeting a celebrity. Oh to be young and impressionable.
5. Any members you'd like to note here who have made a difference in your Plaza time/Any words you'd like to share with them? I really don't like listing people because I'm always worried I'll accidentally overlook someone (see above point about avoiding potential embarrassment at all costs). However, there are a few members, who will hopefully know who they are if they read this, who during various periods of my life have made a very significant and lasting difference both to my time on the Plaza, and outside of it. If you think you could be one of them, you probably are one of them.

I initially joined the Plaza back in 2004 because it was within my first year of discovering Tolkien, and I was eating up as much as I could about his works, Middle-Earth, etc. I saw the Knowledge Halls and wanted to take the quizzes (though I failed spectacularly at them). I then saw that it was also a forums, and back then I was obsessed with forums. It was so neat being able to discuss my favorite things with other people. The RPing scared me at first, but we'll get to that in the next question. I came back because I had been getting the itch to RP again, and having the free time now that I'm laid off, was so excited to see it back in some form. *g*
2. What is/are some of your favourite memory/ies of the Plaza?
My first RP post ever. I was intimated with RPing and the long posts from others. I had never RPd before, so I was not sure what I was getting myself into. But I dove right in to my first adventure, and went off running!
3. Your most embarrassing moment(s)?
Probably the time I was scolded by Blackrose Bugg for - I forgot the term for it - using an image that was not properly hosted in a thread somewhere. My memory is a little fuzzy, but I just remember seeing the admin face and bold text.
4. Were you ever intimidated by any of the big scary RAM team? (BOO).
Not really, well except the one time I was scolded by one of them in the above question
5. Any members you'd like to note here who have made a difference in your Plaza time/Any words you'd like to share with them?
Gosh, too many to count. Eamilia Bolger, who helped me in my first forays into RPing. Tari Boffin and Estel Underhill for getting me involved in Jr Drill. Menolly for encouraging me with threadrunning. And so many more, but those are just off the top of my head.
6. What is one of your favourite activities currently on the Plaza/Your favourite thing about the Plaza.
I love the different free RPs - The markets, the pubs. I love the current atmosphere and how everyone has just come together to have a good time. It was much needed during these tough times.
7. If you could prank the entire Plaza, no holds barred, what would you do?
I don't do much pranks, so no dice here. Sorry.
