@Shivased Could I please open a shop in the Riddermarket!? I would like to open a carpenter stall, he would be building stuff like tables, chairs, benches and so on and can be asked for help with repairs to houses. Carpenter seems to be treowwyrhta in Old English, so call it that? Npc would be Æric :)

@Amadhrill Thanks for being so patient in waiting for my replies in LITM, and for engaging so willingly in a little extra RP! I had a lot of fun, and am a little afraid you have apparently mobilised @Thalionwen Hunigfolm against me! I guess it was only a matter of time before Allacan found herself outnumbered

Finally got the map up of Character Homes, etc, in the Hall of Histories! If you want to be added, tag me here and let me know where your character's home is located, whether it's in a village or is a private farm/estate, and the approximate size of it, as well as any landmarks for boundaries, etc.

Thank you, @Aodh Hammerhelm for letting us use one of your maps. :smooch:

A pleasure, @Taethowen , glad I could be of assistance. It's good to see a few more places on the lands of the Riddermark ;)

@Taethowen

My hastily-obtained NPC, created for sailing the rivers, appears to be fleshing herself out.

"My name's Laewyn and my family run the Eastfold farms beyond Aldburg right down to the Great River. I'm from Swiþám ..."

Now okay she has no second name yet, but she does appear to have claimed a large chunk of land for her yet-uncreated family ...

Let's remedy that.

Swiþám Range is a large family-run estate with a farm and horse training centre about 20? miles directly west of Aldburg along the Great West Road south and west of that in a vaguely triangular shape (i.e. I'd like to claim that wee triangle at the foot of the Nimrais, above the R of Nimrais, for Swiþám Range) and on the other side of the road, two small villages some miles apart where the workers live, but there'll also be a general store, and an inn for passing travellers in each. Um, I'd like those villages to be called Swiþheorte and Swiþhanda. Is that okay? *chews lip*

@Lirimaer Laewyn may want to go look at the map in the other thread. The Anduin and the Eastfold do not come in contact with each other at all. ;)

If you want the estate to be 20 miles *west* of the Aldburg, then it will be between Aldburg and Edoras. However, if you want it to be *east* of the Aldburg, and *only* 20 miles from the fortress, it's going to be more where the first I is in Nimrais. Let me know! :smooch:

This is true, Taethowen, but Laewyn was having a little boast and looking at a far larger map when she said that and it didn't show the boundary line where it is on this map. She's young ... we'll let her off! (My fault, sorry!)

I do not of course mean WEST of Aldburg, as anyone with a brain can see I was drunk and confused when I said that. How confusing for you. Sorry. I have no idea of scale on that map, hence the '20?' but I do want the farmstead where I described, on the right side of the road above the R with the villages on the other side of the road (as you look Eastward). Does this make more sense?

How far away is that area from Aldburg, 40-50 miles?

@Taethowen I love the map! We sure have a wealth of people with estates...gosh Lail must be a pauper compared to them all! Seriously- excellENT jobs if I do say so myself!

@Eldrith - were you still wanting someone to scream in the Riddermarket? I'm planning to send Lail in soon so could acquiesce if still needed and if your request in discord was serious.

@Lirimaer Yes, that area would be about 40-50 miles from Aldburg. I'll get you marked on the map in a bit! And yeah, there's not really any scale markings on that particular map, I've referenced a few other ones to figure out what would be feasible.

@Lailorn thankies! :smooch: I'll be honest, I'm fully living out my dream of being a wealthy landowner through the Plaza LOL. What else is a fantasy roleplay for?

@Lailorn I think the screaming would need to happen soon before @Thalionwen Hunigfolm gets @Pele Alarion inside her store.. or well.. blood in the streets? LOL

Thank you so much, @Aodh Hammerhelm for the map and @Taethowen for personalizing it for us (in the Hall of Histories)! This is fantastic!

As for Eléowyn, there would be two properties:

A small cottage, consisting of two rooms--a great room that includes cooking, dining, and sitting areas, and a small bedroom in the back. This cottage is in Auld Town in Edoras, on the side opposite the Riddermarket.

She also still retains her farm in Westfold, some five miles northeast of the North South Road, and about halfway between Helm's Deep and Edoras. The farm is approximately 100 acres, of which 20 is farmland (now fallow), another 2-3 is fruit orchards, and the rest pasture.

NPF edit: Agreed! Sprinkled some points their way

@Lirimaer do you have a preference for which village is on which side of the Great West Road? Edit: Also, do you want those villages to be 'available' for Plaza people to have their characters live in?

@Eléowyn got your Edoras house added to the list, will be updating the map later today with several additions all at once! :smooch:

@Taethowen as well you should! As long as all of you fancy folk buy Lail's organic, locally-harvested, all-natural, cruelty-free honey and mead, I'm happy...

@Eldrith  too true I thought the same. But yes, a puddle of blood (ooo, a new band name a la Puddle of Mudd?) is still frightful to find! If Lail stumbles upon evidence, is it permissible to report it to someone of authority (e.g., a shop-owning Cavalry member)? Let me know as I don't want to mess up your plot with Pele of course! Feel free to ping me on discord if you want or post here, either is fine.

The Great Mathom Mix-up: ån RP Game!

It’s Silas Hardwick’s birthday party! As is the custom with Hobbit birthday parties, there are presents for all and sundry... but there’s been an Accident! Unfortunately, the table with all the presents on has been toppled over by Silas’ new kitten - and she’s torn off all the ribbons with the name labels on too... so nobody knows what might be in each box! There’s only one way to solve this crisis: everybody get stuck in, have some cakes and ale, and start unwrapping presents! Some of them may be Unexpected, but some of them may be delightful surprises!

So come on over to the party, pick a present to unwrap, and help Silas name his rascally kitten! Who will find the most valuable presents, and who will get stuck with the mathoms? Take your chances here!

@Taethowen I want both the villages on the left, some miles apart, over the road from the main farm range please.

And yes - it would be very nice if some folk lived there. Certainly it is open to anyone wanting to live there.

@Taethowen Pretty much, I felt the main dot would be more centralised in that triangle area, like so:

Image - Sorry to be so pernickety, but thank you for asking/changing things!

Incidentally, how many acres would that yellow ring of land be? I have no idea about acreage and might have to do it in square miles.

@Lirimaer I will tweak the locations and get it up later this week. It looks like, roughly, that would be about 150 sq miles, which would be nearly 100,000 acres.

Wow, that's big ... um, okay. I think maybe I need to have the villages at either side of the main dot then - all on the same side of the road, fairly close together, since the scale is so large. Thanks @Taethowen.

253 with the villages nearer the road.

*is suddenly ragingly jealous of the family crests*

@Aodh Hammerhelm ... could you make me one anyway? *heart eyes* I definitely have some posts I could use a crest with that are not Cav-related, even if it's not in my signature.

Taeth has a medallion that's been in her family for generations that is the closest thing she has to a crest at the moment. Vorondir created some artwork of that medallion here.

@Taethowen,

Leave it with me, I'll see what I can come up with. Be warned I'm seriously out of practice with PC art etc, but I have some days off and it would be a nice way to pass some of my time.

@ ALL

I'm going to open a revived version of The Rohirric Hall of Arms over the next few days.

It should tie in nicely with @Eléowyn's Hall of Histories?

Will post a link here when it's up

@Veowyn I finally found a decent resource for what types of ingredients would be used for dyes in the Middle Ages, categorized by colors! Whenever we're next on Discord at the same time, we could probably hash out some basic prices Taeth can reference in the shop. ;)

@Eldrith,

I've got InDesign, ArtRage plus several other CAD and GIF apps and programs. I tend to use the CADs for maps and compex design, but even then I use PS to tweak up a final JPG or GIF.

The map in the Hall of Rohirric Histories has been updated! If towns/villages are not quite where you were envisioning, it's because I'm prioritizing readability over accuracy. ;) (@Lirimaer pretty sure I got yours relatively close to where you wanted.)

I will likely only upload a new map once a week at most, depending on number of requests at a given time.

On the next map update, I plan to add just a bunch of random villages and Cavalry outposts so that people don't have to worry about coming up with locations all by themselves. If any of you want to throw out some possible names for those places, I'd be most grateful! :smooch:

I think we should all translate our hometowns or similar into Old English and sprinkle them over the map.

Will work out where in the Westfold Elarith’s inconsequential village is before too long and submit it. Looks good so far, @Taethowen !

@Calimir I’m loving your posts in the Riddermarket. I just wanted to check something though; you mention being an errand rider and carrying a noticeable leather bag hung over your shoulder that some would recognise as a dispatch satchel. Does your character appear to be a rohirric dispatch rider, or a Gondorian one? I may need to engage you in a quick delivery job sending a message to one of the shop-owners but wanted to check with you first.

THIS IS GENIUS.

In which case, I will slap a village or something on the map called Ábrocenflá (Broken Arrow) for my own RL home town.

If anyone needs a decent OE resource, btw, I've been finding this site very handy. However, there is no index. You have to search words individually.

Broken Arrow is very poetic-sounding compared to the dull possibilities I am faced with! We'll go with Bremesgraf as a random one for me.

Not sure where to start with building a new character? Or how to mesh your old Plaza character with the NuPlaza, and how you've grown yourself in the intervening years? Or does your character keep running into situations you didn't expect and you're not quite sure how they should react?

If so, this is the thread for you!

Calimir is from Gondor. He came out to drop a message for the King of Rohan and got stuck in Rohan doing the Tub Race. I can deliver a message, sure. I'm not very active, lots of work now that our restaurant has reopened.

@Calimir Understood. It looks like a cavalry comrade showed up in Riddermarket so I ‘borrowed’ them instead. But I’ll keep an eye out for your dispatch rider in case I decide to send something to Gondor 😘
