Jorgy, Wait I’m Supposed to be Finding a Cat
This pie was so, so delicious. It went perfectly with the wine. Jorgy became lost in thought (something he did quite regularly and thus not causing any real worry) and wondered if there was a place he could learn about food pairings and wine (or was it whine, he couldn't quite remember). He imagined this place would be full of great ideas. What sort of wine would go best with cereal? What about pickles? These were the questions Hobbits needed to be asking! He was definitely going to ask Silas about such a place. Jorgy would be great at it. And come to think of it, he needed a job. He sat around in his hobbit hole all day but had nothing to do, or to sit on. A job would provide him with both! Maybe Pearl would have some idea. She worked at the Green Dragon (not a real dragon, much to his great relief) and they served wine and beer there. Wasn't there a brewery here too? Oh the possibilities were endless! Wait. Wasn’t he supposed to be doing something? Hmmmm. Better finish the pie, and maybe get some more pickles. Something about a cat? Oh right! He was supposed to be looking for Pinkletoes.
A roll, please (from H10)

Lora Stumblefoot
Living up to her name, Lora was unable to find a handhold, and instead sailed straight downward, landing on her bumflap. Fortunately, she had a bit of padding in that area, so was not terribly injured. The plate she was holding, however, did not manage to stay level, and she ended up dropping quite a bit of her lunch (snack?). She scrambled hastily back up to her feet, looking around to see who had witnessed her not-so-graceful moment, as well as for a towel to clean up her mess. Unless the kitten or wolf were hungry

Reposting for my own sanity
The Hardwick’s living room is represented on this grid. You will have the option to move either YOURSELF (A roll) or PINKLETOES (B roll). If you and Pinkletoes land on the same square at any round, you’ve successfully caught her! Until she gets away again...
The game will essentially work like Snakes and Ladders except the aim is not to reach the end but to be on the same square as Pinkletoes. Oh, and nobody will know where the snakes and ladders are except me.
ROLLS will be with 6 sided dice.
A Roll:
1: you’ll move 1 forward, horizontal
2: you move 1 back, horizontal
3: you move 1 up, vertical
4: you move 1 down, vertical
5: you move 2 forward, horizontal
6: you move 2 down, vertical
B Roll:
All rolls for Pinkletoes will affect her during a round. She’s faster than a hobbit, so:
1: she moves 2 forward, horizontal
2: she moves 2 back, horizontal
3: she moves 2 up, vertical
4: she moves 2 down, vertical
5: she moves 3 forward, horizontal
6: she moves down, vertical
If you make Pinkletoes land on the food there will be no food. You have been warned...
Also I have no idea how this is going to work because I am literally making this up on the spot.

Pearl Brockhouse
Abelard was looking a bit shifty where he stood, but Pearl disregarded this and chattered on, "Oh, I'm so glad you like the vest!" (Good; it seemed that he hadn't noticed the hole.) "And this sandwich is delicious. If you haven't had the egg and cress yet, I highly recommend them."
With a gasp, Pearl leapt onto the table in fright when the wolf fixed his gaze on her. Fortunately, she did not land on any of the food. A jug of juice did totter dangerously close to the table's edge, but Pearl caught it with the practiced reflexes of one of the Green Dragon's waitstaff. Phew. Still no spills to set to her account at this party (yet). She did feel a bit awkward to find herself standing on the Hardwicks' nice dining table, though. "Ooops," she whispered, crouching low before moving on, hopefully toward that sneaky kitten.

Getting Fidgety
Gallivanting Golfimbuls, but that cat could MOVE. It had streaked across the room faster, even, than Abelard's eye could follow, taking a sudden position up on the basement stairs. They were clearly never going to catch this cat, was there any hope at all? Abelard was beginning to regret deciding to crash this party -- harmless "pranks" had quickly turned into a terribly sticky situation.
"Egg and chess? No, I don't play chess." Abelard stammered, only half listening as Pearl spoke. The gasp she gave when that WOLF came after her did shock him out of his fear, and soon Abelard found himself scrambling out of the way as well.
An A roll from F7, Please!

Lora Stumblefoot
Lora swiftly cleaned the mess she had made, hating that she wasted such tasty food, but nothing she could do about it. Why there was peanut butter on the floor, with both a kitten and a wolf about who were likely hungry, she had no idea.
But it was time to re-load her plate. She was about to reach once more for the handle of the fruit salad, when Pearl jumped up on the table. Lora froze, unsure how to respond. It seemed rude to reach around the hobbit, but she did desperately want some more of the fruit salad. She decided to casually turn away instead, and pretend to be looking for the kitten.

Although Menolly had offered Jorgy a napkin, he seemed far too lost in thought to take it, or lost in something of some sort anyway. But her attention was drawn by Pinkletoes zipping across the room faster than she'd ever seen any cat move. Menolly spun about, trying to follow the kitten's path, but succeeded only in tripping over her own feet and doing a bit of an accidental curtsy that turned into her sinking to the floor.
Fortunately she was uninjured and she sprang up hurriedly, her cheeks flushing red. "Here, kitty kitty," she called without any actual conviction about the obedience of said kitty.

Jorgy, having serious doubts about what he’s doing
“Okay,” Jorgy muttered, looking around him. He had messed up somewhere. He was nowhere near the food nor Pinkletoes. The two things he wanted to do, eat and find the cat, were utterly impossible from this spot on the room. He wanted to say at least it was comfortable over here but there was nothing to sit down on over here (much like his own house at the moment).
“Do you want to catch the cat Jorgy, or do you want to eat?” this was a very, very serious question. His stomach rumbled. Pearl once told him that that meant he was hungry. He didn’t quite feel hungry, having done almost nothing but eat since he had arrived, but he was not going to ignore Pearl’s pearls of wisdom (oh Jorgy you and your puns). Oh wait! Where was Jorgy ferret? Had he set his new friend/taxi-der-me/welcome statue down at the table? He knew how popular his ferret had been, he would have for someone to accidentally take it. He had better check the table. While he was there he could get more pickles and cordial and pie. Maybe he could pure the cat in with Jorgy ferret’s help.

Viola Brockhouse is still in terror
Viola had shut her eyes as the wolf lunged for Silas's sandwich, sure she was going to hear the dreadful snap of bone and blood-curdling cries as it took off his arm at the elbow. She braced herself, but could only hear shlurpings and gulpings. She gasped - had it swllowed him whole? Opening her eye a teensy tiny crack, she could see the wolf licking its lips, but Silas was still there. In fact, he shouted over that it was all right! Was he insane? Maybe he was part Took? She decided to use the distraction of the ham sandwiches to try to move further away from that wolf.

With all the grace of his elven mistress, or at least, with all the grace of a three and a half foot high dog raised by a slightly distracted elf with a high tolerance for messes, Yávië fetched himself four types of sandwiches, two sausage rolls, half a quiche and a gobful of cheese and settled down a little away from the table. Some of the hobbits seemed a little nervous of him, and he tried to look reassuring.
"You make better food than you would, uh, make, if you catch my meaning," he rumbled around a mouthful of ham. "Lovely grub, this."
He didn't look up again until he had finished industriously licking up crumbs of quiche and breadcrust from the floor. Three things came to his attention then--at least one of the desserts was heaped with whipped cream, the kitten was making scratching sounds on the floor several feet behind him and oh my hobbit-footed Helcaraxë hounds!! the wolf was inside.
"Wha--wh--how was this the plan!?" he barked! "I only stopped a moment to sample the dishes. The sausage rolls are very good, but of course you would know now, wouldn't you! Can't keep your overgrown stomach outside and wait for me for five min--oh." Yávië glanced out a round window and found that the sun had moved quite a ways across the sky. "Erm, well. Shall I chase you off now or...?"

Pearl Brockhouse
"Egg and CRESS," Pearl called as Abelard hastened away. "CRESS." She didn't quite know why she wanted him to know it wasn't "chess," but she felt quite passionately about the subject just now.
She leapt down from the table and wandered toward Jorgy to see how he was faring. He looked a wee bit concerned. She also noticed that Viola, who was now standing right next to her, was looking with fright at the wolf. "Hello!" she said to them both between mouthfuls of sandwich. "Are you going to get some more food? If you are, try one of the egg and CRESS sandwiches!" She hoped that everyone would try them, as they were delicious.
Unfortunately, her detour to speak with her friends had taken her away from the sneaky little kitten once more. "Drat!" she muttered, turning back toward the table that stood between her and the cat. "I suppose another sandwich on the way couldn't hurt."
A roll from G8!
Unnamed Wolf
The wolf turned his great, shaggy head toward Yávië. "I was waiting. And waiting. And waiting. Meanwhile, you were bouncing off the walls in this tiny cave. Then that hobbit" - he glanced at Silas and back at the wolfhound - "invited me in with a ham sandwich. How could I resist?"
He ignored the query about their plan when he caught a tangy, salty scent on the air (if he had ever seen pickles, he would have known it was the smell of pickle juice). It was emanating from one of the hobbits (Viola). This was most intriguing. The wolf quickly padded over to investigate. "Hello there," he said in a loud yowl (Yávië heard the words; the hobbits only heard the yowling part). "Do you have any food?"

Ignoring the persistent pain in her knee, Menolly spun round again, trying to lay eyes on the dratted kitten. Had she known kittens could move this fast, she'd never have agreed to this foolish hunt. She was quite certain that all the kittens she'd known and raised into adult cats had never committed these sorts of shenanigans.
As she was looking about, she spotted the wolf again. It seemed to approach poor Viola, who looked reasonably nervous about the whole thing. She called across the room, "Are you all right, Viola? I wouldn't worry too much, that seems like a friendly wolf!"

There were fewer people around the buffet, so Lora headed back. The kitten was a bit closer, and Lora hesitated. Food, or catching the kitten? It was a tough decision. She wanted to be polite to her host, and help with the kitten issue, but she was also hungry again. Hmmm.
And then there was the whole wolf thing. It was very confusing. Some people didn't seem to mind the wolf, others seemed scared. The wolf seemed not terribly interested in the food, so Lora was less worried about his presence.

Silas, Birthday Boy
The number of animals at his party was only increasing. Not only the wolf - but a wolfhound - along with the still-elusive Pinkletoes; and of course, Jorgy Ferret. Next would be a badger or an oliphaunt or something equally unlikely, no doubt, or perhaps Clown Ducky would produce a flock of birds from his Wizard’s hat.
Viola still looked incredibly nervous. “Don’t worry, Viola,” Silas added, in a desperately cheerful tone; “with such excellent food around, and in such abundance, I’m sure none of these good beasts will get the urge to try Hobbit, ahahahaha...”
He frantically gestured to Ma Hardwick to replenish the sandwich board.

A cat, a dog, a wolf, a Ferret... There were just too many, simply too many. Only vaguely aware that he was being a bit of a spoilsport, Abelard cast his eye around for Silas and saw him, signaling elaborately to his mother and looking about as stressed as a host could be. Well! Abelard's scowl suddenly broke. How could he complain to Silas of all these animals, when he himself had only come for some simple pranks and some simple fun?
No, it was important that Abelard do the right thing. If he was going to establish himself (independent of the clan!) in Bywater, he would need to make a Good Impression and Do The Right Thing! He would go and comfort the strained looking birthday boy...
After just a bite more of food.

Rilla Banks, still at H8...
Rilla spied a hobbit she was unfamiliar with (Lora) slide and fall onto the floor and she happened to notice an interesting feature on her outfit. The bumflap. But of course, Rilla did not know it was called a bumflap, but she had her suspicions what it might be used for. She just had to know who had made Lora's outfit!
"Hey you!" she called to Lora since she didn't know her name. "Where did you get such a clever outfit? I couldn't help but notice the special feature on your bum!" She said with absolutely no trace of embarrassment to be calling attention to the other hobbit's rear end.
She decided to head toward Lora to get a better look and the name of whoever designed it...

Lora had been just about to stuff, er, take, another bite of food when she heard a “hey you!”. She looked around, wondering what was going on.
A hobbit she didn’t recognize, Rilla, was asking about her bumflap! “Oh, do you like it?” Lora asked excitedly, turning around and bending over to show it off. “I was told it’s the latest fashion, straight from this year’s Rohan Summer Festival! Everyone’s wearing them!” She said, waving her fork excitedly. “Some apparently have sequins, but I couldn’t find one that nice,” she said sadly.

She was reluctant to leave the table, and the kitten had gone further away again. Stuffing her mouth full with a delicious sandwich, she glanced around at the roomful of hobbits and found it unlikely that the kitten could so easily avoid all of them.

On the other hand, the cat didn't need to be found by him particularly. Someone else could handle it. Sure, he had the kitten treats and sure, he might be of some use but... Well, Abelard was hungry. He could stay here for a while, and keep an eye on the cat out of the corner of his eye. That way he could know when to be helpful, if it came to that.
Also, his nose was tickling. He suspected the cat was to blame.
A B roll for Pinkletoes!
Increasing the number of rolls could work -- although my issue seems to be escaping the lunch table.

"SEQUINS?!" Rilla squealed, stopping in her tracks as she approached Lora. "I love it!" Her eyes widened as she took in the glamorous and clever bumflap the hobbit was proudly showing off across the room. "Rohan, you say! I never knew Big People were so forward-thinking. Oh I've got to get one for myself. What's your name? I'm Rilla!"
"Pearl?!" she called out looking around for her. "Hey Pearl! Have you seen this before?" She waved her hands at the bumflap. "Don't you fancy it would be mighty handy on our next Walking Club adventure?"

It was extremely rare for anyone to be impressed with Lora’s outfits, and she felt herself blushing a bit. “Yes, Rohan!” She called back. It was a long story how she had come to hear of this daring fashion trend, involving a mistaken identity, a theft, a smuggler, and some questionable time travel. But the result was the same—this year’s hottest fashion!
“I’m Lora!” she introduced herself back to Rilla, who was calling Pearl’s attention to the bumflap, so Lora helpfully turned around once more, and showed off her posterior. Rilla was saying something about a walking club. “A walking club? What a fantastic idea!” she exclaimed, looking guiltily at the dessert heaped up on her plate.

Pinkletoes was nowhere to be seen, and yet Menolly couldn't help but notice there seemed to be plenty of other animals at the party. There also seemed to be a fashion discussion going on that she couldn't quite hear, but she recognized Rilla talking to someone else (Lora) she didn't know. They seemed to be focused on Lora's posterior, which was sporting an interesting trouser design. "Hello, Rilla!" Menolly called across the room. "What sort of trousers are those? They look like they have some sort of...seatfold? Rumpcovering? I could swear there's a better word for it."

Pearl Brockhouse
"What's this about bumflaps?" Pearl queried from across the room as Lora and Rilla excitedly discussed the latest fashion craze. "I want to see!"
Luckily, Lora had just turned around to demonstrate the crucial feature on her posterior. "Oh! How . . . useful?" Pearl said in surprise. She wasn't quite sure what to think; she certainly wasn't as impressed as Rilla had been. Was it there for purely pragmatic purposes? Purely decorative? An ironic statement about one's ability to use a washroom like a civilized gentlehobbit? Hmmmm.
She thought she'd wander over for a closer look, if she could manage to get across the crowded room.

Catching his breath
Well, this was nice. Just standing here was good. It was certainly better than pacing back and forth, unable to make up his mind on whether or not to ineffectively join the company in pursuing the cat. He would... He would just stay here a moment, then, and catch his breath. That would be nice.
Abelard did not speak, as he thought that. He was busy eating--although he did glance up in confusion when Pearl said "bumflaps".

Rilla waved her had exuberantly at Lora. "Nice to meet you, Lora!"
Menolly and Pearl also seemed interested in this new fashion which Rilla was now determined to see spread from Tuckborough to Scary and back. If Pearl was less interested than her, she had not taken note of it. "If you both like them, too, maybe we could all go in for a bulk order! I'd love a pair with orange sequins...is it expensive to order clothes from Rohan?" She had no idea how far away Rohan was, but she thought she heard the Big People there ate weasel burgers...or was it badger dogs. No, no, was it badger burgers?

The bumflap was causing all sorts of notice, and Lora was starting to get just a bit embarrassed at the attention. “I don’t know how far away Rohan is,” she confessed to Rilla, even more embarrassed now for not having relevant information. I’m fairly certain it’s further than Bree, though,” she said with more confidence than she felt, as Pearl went for a closer look, not seeking quite as enthusiastic as Rilla.
“But orange sequins sound lovely!” She said enthusiastically. “But also expensive. Do you think we could make our own?” she asked.

She was still looking around for the elusive kitty, when she overheard the conversation on what might be a new fashion trend arise between the nearby hobbits. A bumflap? Did it really look just like it sounded? Curious, Fuchsia decided to make an inconspicuous move, both to find the cat and to possibly take a peek at the curious piece of clothing Lora was wearing. She had to admit that she had not really noticed anything strange about it - but then again she had looked at Lora from the front, not from the back.

Why could she not move any faster? It was as if she was weighed down by a supremely heavy pack and trudging through a bog! Pearl wondered vaguely if she had perhaps overindulged in the egg and cress sandwiches. No, no, she scolded herself, there was no such thing as too many sandwiches. Then what could it be? Perhaps she was subconsciously afraid of the two large canines bounding around and sniffing people. Hmmm. Hadn't this all started as a mission to catch a feline? How odd. Silas must be reeling from the excitement of his birthday!

"Have you seen little Pinkletoes anywhere?" she asked. That kitten sure was wily.

Quick as a flash, Pearl wove through the crowded room. Huh. How come she hadn't moved like this the whole party? Perhaps her digestive system was catching up at last. Oh dear.
At any rate . . . she found herself suddenly close to the kitten. She froze. Did she dare move nearer? Pearl bit her lip hesitantly and looked around. Lora was somewhat close, but not close enough to reach out and grab Pinkletoes. Fuchsia, too, was close. It had been quite an afternoon of mathom-exchanging and kitten-stalking. She was rather sleepy from all the sandwiches, too. She decided to see what would happen if she stayed perfectly still . . .

The kitten was so close, and it was actually getting a bit embarrassing that it was managing to stay loose for this long. Granted, it was very small, and proving to be quite agile.
Lora took a piece of lunch meat off her plate and knelt down. "Come on, kitty!" she said, really wanting to say the name "Pinkletoes" outloud. "Free food!" she said enticingly before her back began spasming from squatting. "I like the ambush idea!" she replied to Fuchsia. They weren't having much luck otherwise.

The question was barely out of Rilla's mouth when she saw the little kitten dart closer. "Pinky!" she whispered. Should she try to creep forward and grab the kitten or stay still and wait? She didn't want to frighten the wee one; the wolf must be frightening enough though seemed content to eat sandwiches out of Silas' hand. (She'd have to ask him about that later - was he in the habit of hand-feeding sandwiches to wild creatures? That was mighty impressive!)
She crouched down to her knees ever so slowly, peeled off one of her fluffy orange slippers and slowly slid it on the floor toward Pinkletoes. Would the kitten come investigate Rilla's brand new footwear? And maybe just maybe be her new B.F.F.F. - best feline friend furever?

No longer stuffing his face
Well! The table was growing bare. Abelard could hedge and delay no longer. It was time to find the cat. Abelard scanned the room -- although, on the other hand, there was no clear sign of the animal where it had been. How long had he been eating? Perhaps it was time to leave the party -- if the cat was not found -- and go for, well, a constitutional or something of the sort. Abelard felt a bit like his old own father, the rather rotund Hargo Brandybuck...
But, no! He had not come to live among the queer Hobbiton-folk to maintain the ordinary life of the folk back east. Large dinners were very fine, but not alone, it was time for some youth and action -- it was time to catch the cat!
Now where was it?

“We need a big butterfly net,” she commented to the group.

Rilla was looking very impressed at his bravery in feeding sandwiches to the big wolf creature. Silas’ waistcoat swelled with pride (definitely not because he’d just eaten another pastry). But was Lora calling for a net? A metaphorical lantern popped over Silas’ head (the Hardwicks don’t have lightbulbs). “Here, Lora!” he suggested brightly. “How about this holey vest that someone has left lying around for some reason?”
