@Winddancer Haha, gotcha. You'd think I could at least keep track of who's talking to who in these threads after dealing with the discord.

@Veowyn are you okay to respond? I'm probably going to post tomorrow, but if you can't make it don't worry.

@Lirimaer I am currently working on my post for you. I did want to discuss it with you though. I had an idea for you. Since I don't know if I should really have Dani to completely take over at job of that caliber, in a shop that's not hers.. can Dani give Ivor another idea? Vandani's father had been Master of Trade before her, and I could have her give Ivor a very special journal that had been passed down, containing old maps of the city, as well as descriptions of different shops as they evolved over the years ... it would be a little piece of city history, give him a peek into the long lineages and families in Minas Tirith. ?? if you are not keen on it, I can have her just find a journal that similar to your request within the shop... I posed the question in the post, that way you have something to reply to :)

Okay thanks, @Veowyn - I have a particular plan, so noooo - I don't want a history. It's a lovely idea though and if I hadn't got my own I'd jump on it!

Point of curiosity: what do we have for water in the marketplace? A well? A fountain? Something else?

I would definitely think there is a well on every level, maybe even more than one. Would be lovely with a fountain, though did they have that tech?

I would think so, there was a court of the fountain in MT?

Galastel, Winddancer - since there's a fountain on the 4th level, there's no reason why one shouldn't be in the marketplace. :-) I've just checked some literature on Roman cities (specifically on the Eastern Adriatic Coast) and they had numerous fountains and wells and also those practical fountains made for drinking, rather than decoration. So the technology is there :-) I'll se if the author included sketches and scan if there are some.

Arnyn, you're right. A sweet fountain played there in the morning sun, and a sward of bright green lay about it; but in the midst, drooping over the pool, stood a dead tree, and the falling drops dripped sadly from its barren and broken branches back into the clear water. (LotR V 1) Forgot about it.
Winddancer I think, though I might be wrong on this, many of the fountains in medieval Europe were the ones built by the Romans. Rome had fountains, aqueducts, water pipes and sewage systems, flowing water that reached your fifth-floor apartment - Rome was quite amazing. I suppose if we want to be historically accurate in ways Tolkien never bothered to be, we can treat Numenor as sort-of-Rome, in which case Minas Tirith could have fountains built during Isildur and Anarion's time. What do you think?

There is also the House of the Fountain, in Gondolin of the First Age. Ecthelion, Lord of that house was ironically drowned in the King’s fountain by a Balrog during the fall of the city. So if Men learnt from Elves, there is a canon precedent for you right there. :smiley10:

Hey if they were in the books, pop a fountain in. My NPC would love to sit there and daydream! :P Fountains sound good to me, though definitely would also have wells where people could get water. Heck the fountain might even be used to wash laundry in, I know that this was often done in medieval fountains.

ok the post is up. I did not put an exact amount, I am having trouble deciding what is acceptable, so left it vague and you can either keep it vague too, or just make up an amount yourself. :smiley11:

I would like to open a kennels as a shoppe/business, using my main character, and perhaps one or two NPCs to run it.

I think I used to have one or two shops, and a tavern, and was the mayor of the marketplace if that helps in any way.

Hmm, how about "Garaf-na-fuin" which translates to the deadly dogs. Or just "The Kennels" lol.

I'll train and sell dogs for the citizens of Minas Tirith, people love a good animal companion. :D

No worries, I am wayyyy behind in many places!

Clearly trying to paint a house, build a pergola, buy a new car and plaza is just too much.

G'day all. Can I revive an old NPC of mine to run the Blacksmith/Armory?

NPC: ((Name: Beleth
Gender: Male
Age: 40
Home/Location (Must be an active trade route city): Minas Tirith/Market Place/Back Room of Armory
Occupation (Must have some relation to the shop you are apart of): Former Blacksmith, now owner of Minas Tirith Armory
Appearance (brief description): Beleth is a tall man. He stands at about 6’ 6” and weighs about 17 Stone. He has thick wavy blonde hair and a rugged tanned complexion. His grey piercing eyes are his most prominent feature. He is well muscled from his time spent with hammer in hand pounding and molding weapons over the anvil.
Back story (brief history): Beleth was born and raised in Minas Tirith. As a boy he was drawn to the market place and the hustle and bustle of every day business. He found work easily due to his size and build. At 18 he joined the rangers and led a fairly uneventful career, reaching the Rank of Corporal in the Pelecconer Division. At 25 he left the life of a soldier and sought a late apprenticeship with the then Blacksmith. He finished his apprenticeship quickly becoming a master blacksmith at 35. Five years ago Beleth was able to purchase the Minas Tirith Armory and has set up one of the most well respected weapons dealerships in the city.

Winddancer. No problems at all. My mistake - I only read the intro post and saw the list of businesses and took Metalsmith as a crafter of fine metallic goods. Lesson learnt, never assume. I'll have a think about it over the next couple of days and chose another profession and NPC.

Haha, well most of the painting is done - just glossing now, the car is bought and the pergola is half built. I'm having a very productive holiday.

Competition and variety of choice is always good. Not that I am one who often frequents the marketplace, but as someone who buys weapons in RL, it is good to have choice of bladesmiths and armourers. Having more than one of each shop is not a bad thing.

A very productive holiday indeed, @Lirimaer :headbang: Meanwhile, I have only this week discovered Ivor's character submission here in Gondor. So remiss of me ! I have just had to edit my previous post where Addhor had observed his customer to be a 'young man'; for it seems that your and my tradesman are not actually too far separated by years. Regardless, I have posted back for you again now. Multi-tasking aside, it should be easier for me to respond quicker from now on, fingers crossed.

@Lirimaer, no rush at all. You are in good company for there is so much fun to be found in many corners of NuPlaza.

I might give you a tiny heads up that our apothecary shopowner hasn’t been active for some while now though. If you are looking for interaction for Annabel, perhaps wondering about the open streets would provide better opportunity to meet assistance ? Either in the marketplace or the Minas Tirith and North fiefdoms Free RP thread ? Or if she’s aware that Minas Tirith has a House of Healing (thread) ? :winkkiss:

That said, for all I know, she might be at least able to obtain life-saving supplies where she is, and just leave coin for the shopkeeper or something. But if you do require an IC assistance for your injured visitor, I do have other non-shop working IC I could offer you, to at the very least help Annabel on her way up to the Healers ?

Regardless, enjoy your fun ! It’s all good.

I’m happy to bow out, if you would rather take up with @Nessa Saelind. With her having a healer character etc it makes more sense for the story you’ve already started. My interest was mainly to make sure you weren’t left with no one to talk to.

Rather surprised that @Winddancer hasn’t tried to chase you into (one of) her shop(s). Since she is actually one of the other rare shopkeeper ICs currently active in Gondor. :googly:
