The Fire Swamp! [A Maze]

To traverse the Fire Swamp, there are 3 dangers you must avoid: the flame spurts, the lightning sands, and of course, the R.O.U.S...

To play, RP entering the maze and bold your direction choice at the bottom. You may enter from North, West or South.

Rules:
- you may be any character you like
- Please be IC, and post at least 100 characters
- When you encounter an Obstacle, a die will be rolled for you and the obstacle to see if you pass it. If you do not pass it you must keep trying to RP your way out until the dice are in your favour; after 5 attempts you will be killed
-
(If someone would like to volunteer to run this that would be super as Sil and Mazes have A History)
@Dimcairien Luiniel has kindly offered to run this maze!

'Please state the nature of the medical emergency!'
With the always present smile, the Doctor appeared on the spot where he had been summoned to. To his surprise he didn't find any victim or sick crew member. Instead he was standing at the side of what seemed to be... a swamp? A firy swamp?
Goodness. Why did humans always get hurt in the most difficult places? The doctor sighed.
'Well, it seems that I don't have any other option.'
He hummed a bit while thinking what would be the best choice to make.
'Hello? Who is there? Why was I called to come over here?'
It seemed that he heard a voice somewhere ahead of him. Was somebody calling for aid? In that case he had no choice. He wasn't quite sure how this maze was to be entered. But since he had appeared in the far north, he thought he just better step right in. 'Okay, here I'll go. I will go right ahead and make one step into this maze and then I'll see what happens.'
(OOC Is this correct? I have entered and in the next post I will need to say whether I go left or right or something, or will the post make that clear?)

Prince Humperdinck

It had been a while since he had ventured to this part of Florin, and Humperdinck immediately remembered why. The smell was atrocious. Plus the imminent fear of death, of course. He held a handkerchief to his nose, and continued onward, sure that Buttercup had come this way.

The Prince began reciting in his head the dangers of the Fire Swamp. The dangers were well known, and hopefully he could avoid them, while he searched for Buttercup.

Hmph. This was no sort of place at all. The Ancient Booer (or BooBoo, as she was known to her friends, or would if she had any, because she definitely didn't) pursed her lips as she stumped along on the uneven ground, kicking a wayward branch here and there for good measure. The smell was awful, worse even than BooBoo herself, which was quite an accomplishment. She pulled up her skirts, revealing a touch of ankle (covered in three pairs of half-rotten socks, which produced their own smell to rival the swamp) and stood before an opening in the wall of greenery.

From the west, please!

The one referred to as the Dread Pirate had heard about the Fire Swamp, but didn't have the heart to want to try it for himself. If he was trying to rescue his beloved, that would be a different story, but he wasn't. He was simply helping a Spaniard by the name of Inigo track down a six fingered man so that he could avenge his father. "Typical." Dread Pirate Roberts scoffed, but didn't want to tell his companion that he was only helping him so that he could learn the whereabouts of his beloved, who was rumored to have wed one known as Prince Humperdinck and he wanted to make sure that he wasn't using her in an attempt to try and capture him. What faced the Dread Pirate as he entered the maze was a decision: from which direction would he like to enter?

This is my first time trying to run a maze, so bear with me please. Updates will probably be every 24 to 48 hours or so. Jump on in whenever and hopefully I can keep track of everyone.

When it comes to rolling the die to pass obstacles, I may or may not award bonus points for RP quality/humour, etc.

@Eamila Bolger You enter the maze from the north. The atmosphere of the place already stinks of sulfur (but due to your lack of nasal capacities, you do not smell anything) and you walk carefully. In the dark, you can barely see the path ahead of you and it splits in two directions. You can go south or west.

@Gwai-Gon Jinn You enter the maze from the north. The atmosphere of the place already stinks of sulfur and you walk carefully, especially as you want to avoid ruining your luxurious clothes. In the dark, you can barely see the path ahead of you and it splits in two directions. You can go south or west.

@Menolly You enter the maze from the West. The atmosphere of the place already stinks of sulfur (though perhaps that is just you) and you walk carefully. In the dark, you can barely see the path ahead of you and it splits in two directions. You can go north or south.

@Lady of Shadow You enter the maze from the South. The atmosphere of the place already stinks of sulfur and you walk carefully. In the dark, you can barely see the path ahead of you (and the colouring of your clothing will help you blend in, perhaps this is to your favour or to your detriment). The path splits into two directions: you can go north or east.

The semi-transparent sheet Yávië had found bundled in a dusty corner of Rivendell's smallest armory building had seemed innocent enough at first. It had a pleasing cool, silky feel and the wolfhound had happily walked about with it draped over his head and back. Two conveniently placed holes settled prefectly over his eyes.

Then he had begun to feel oddly buoyant. A passing elf squeaked in surprise at the sight of him. A strange orange glow began to grow at the bottom edge of his vision. In the excitement of finding an unguarded cheese plate he had done a sort of...mid-air flip...he had never managed before, despite his typical athletic prowess.

Now, in search of answers he found himself, sheet and all, at the edge of great, looming swamp. He shook once, as if to rid himself of water and bad feelings, and entered from the north.

If he had looked down, he would have noticed that his paws were rather less substantial than they should have been...
"What filled me with a barbaric joy...it was that I had been able to read the anger of the desert in the beating wings of a dragonfly."

Prince Humperdinck was already having second thoughts about entering the Fire Swamp. The smell was terrible, the atmosphere abysmal, and there was absolutely no place to get a stiff drink. Was Buttercup even worth this? he wondered. But he had made his intentions known, and he was not going to be shown up by some silly girl.

He winced as his velvet sleeve brushed against a bush and he shuddered. His valet was going to have some choice words. The path up ahead was splitting, and he hesitated. He wanted to find Buttercup, but he had no desire to run into fires, ROUS's, or lightning sand. With a sigh, he decided to go west.

He wasn't alone anymore. The Doctor saw no-one else but Prince Humperdinck enter the maze through the same entrance as he had just done.
'Curious. A prince, so well dressed, here in this smelly bog?' The prince didn't seem to see him, so he stayed in a corner to see what he would choose.
West. Right. Somehow the Doctor felt no desire to follow this man. Perhaps he could use the help from someone aboard the starship?
'Doctor to lieutenant Paris. Doctor to Tom Paris!' If anyone would help him out, it would be Tom, who also liked playing a game and cheating where possible. But he got no answer. 'Typically. No connection. Nothing on planet Earth is as it should be, is it? Well, I'll go south then and see what happens.'

As the Dread Pirate entered the Fire Swamp from the South, he could detect sulphur in the air, so was it possible that this region was the result of some kind of battle from long ago? If that were the case, he was glad that he had his sword with him (well, technically, it was the sword of the pirate he was impersonating, but it was still a weapon). Since it was approaching dusk (or so he thought, it was hard to tell in such a location), he had to tread lightly, otherwise risk losing his footing and possibly falling into one of the fire pits (which the place was crawling with, so he was beginning to have second thoughts if it was the remnants of some battle; this seemed to be occuring naturally). It was a good thing he was no longer dressed as a farm boy, otherwise his clothes would be getting pretty grubby by now, perhaps even beyond repair.

The Dread Pirate formerly known as Westley continued to tread lightly until he came to what looked like a fork in the road. "Which way will get me closer to my beloved?" he thought to himself and he tried to figure out which path to take.

To the east, please

BooBoo squinted as she stepped into darkness. A rank smell wound its way into her nostrils and she sighed with nostalgic remembrance. The sulfurous stink was not unlike the aroma in the bowels of Castle Florin, where she sometimes picked over the compost heap for tasty snacks to feed her beloved cat, Cutiepants Cuddlebuns VonFluffykins. This forest was starting to feel almost like home, right down to the poor lighting and dim alleyways.

However, the city had fewer tree roots to stumble over, so BooBoo slowed her pace and squinted as the trail forked before her. Left seemed as good a direction as any.

Thornspawn, the Ent (with Diablo Hanging in the Branches)

A Fire Swamp sounded just like the thing he needed today. The thorn ensconced Ent was in a foul temper and he needed to be in a place that reflected his angry, sullen mood. What put him in that mood? That’s none of your business, you wouldn’t understand. While he was not quite sure where he was when he arrived at the entrance, the crows, magnificent and malevolent as they were, including a new one that seemed suspiciously sentient and diabolical. Thornspawn knew that some crows could talk, he’d met his fair share of the many years he’d been tortured with existence, but this one was by far the most talkative, and the most devious. As soon as he neared the maze, the crow fluttered down to the lower branches, avoiding the thorns with an ease that spoke of experience and purpose. “Take the North” it squawked conspiratorially. That’s what Thornspawn intended then.

San with Moro

The huge white wolf padded up to the maze, her human child beside her. The woman, San, wore a deep blue dress topped with a white tunic. Her bare arms were exposed, yet shrouded in a white fur cloak, to whose hood was sewn a fierce mask of red with yellow eyes and mouth. Her true face was hidden. The swamp before them was danker and grimmer than the forests she and her family inhabited, yet through it they must pass. San scurried forward to examine the terrain. When no immediate threats appeared, she waved Moro forward.

The wolf-girl and her mother entered the maze from the North.

Assistant Brute

Brutey McBrutefac (or 'Brutey' as his friends like to call him) had contributed little of note in his thus far unimpressive life. His recent hopes to achieve something memorable by joining Chief Enforcer Yellin's hastily constructed 'Brute Squad' had culminated only in the crux of his single crowning 'achievements', being the unimpressive and un-noteworthy line "Almost. There's a Spaniard giving us some trouble." He had not even survived into the next scene alongside notable heroes of renown, not even as a back-up soldier or scene dressing extra. Indeed, the later punch-line of "You are the Brute Squad" had hurt poor Brutey on a personal level as he shed a silent tear and wandered back to his little hovel with all his dreams of grandiose glory and heroism shattered. So impressive was the immense Fezzik that nobody ever remembered the contributions given by his many compatriots, even this man who was chief of all the brutish assistants in that he uniquely retained the ability to speak and utter vocalities. They weren't even credited by name. Instead, as soon as Fezzik had turned coat to rejoin his old companion Inigo Montoya and the latter had been rescued from their poorly executed attempts to arrest him, the Brute Squad itself had dissolved from existence and was never again noted in history. It was as though the linch-pin giant's exiting of his ranks simply led to the organisation fizzling out of existence in the manner of so many other one-use story-telling devices and single-purpose pun enablers. And then the once-soldiers and thugs, the 'remnant brutes' as they thought of themselves, were left to wander away lost with no more direction than any other discarded narrative tool.

But Brutey, most senior and responsible of all the brutes such that he was uniquely awarded the title of 'Assistant Brute', had not given up all hope or aspiration just yet. He would show them; he would prove to Fezzik and Inigo and Yellin and Prince Humperdink that he was not simply some one-line wonder! With his face still smarting from the Spaniard's sword and his pride still singed by the drunkard's later insensitive comment, he marched himself straight down to the Fire Swamp and - with the confidence that only the exceptionally foolish and ignorance can maintain - strode in to face its great terrors alone.

Thor

When Thor heard about a place called a Fire Swamp, he knew he had to check it out immediately. What better way to claim glory than to make it through a place like that in one piece! How exciting it would be! He approached the maze with hammer in hand, grinning from ear to ear. He considered his options, noting several entrances to the maze. Finally, he settled on entering from the West. "If this doesn't prove once and for all that I'm the strongest avenger, nothing will. I'd like to see Banner try going through this place," he told himself as he strode inside.

@Yávië You enter the maze from the North. The atmosphere of the place already stinks of sulfur. While you float instead of walk, you are still a bit careful. Who knows how ghosts interact with flames? In the dark, you can barely see the path ahead of you and it splits in two directions. You can go south or west.

@Gwai-Gon Jinn You choose to head West. So far, the Fire Swamp hasn't lived up to its name, but the smell of sulfur seems to be growing or is that simply because you are no longer close to the slightly fresh scent of the woods. You can go back the way you came or head south.

@Eamila Bolger You choose to head South. So far your holographic projection seems to be holding up, but who knows how the elements of the Fire Swamp will interact with light. You can go back the way you came or head East.

@Lady of Shadow You choose to head East. Was that a growl you heard or is your mind simply playing tricks on you? Even with the lack of present dangers, the Fire Swamp presents a terrifying atmosphere, but nothing that the Dread Pirate Roberts can't face. You can go back the way you came or head North.

@Menolly Your choose to head North. Perhaps your stink is actually helpful as you have yet to meet any dangers in the Fire Swamp. But it is rather dark and is perhaps just a bit too warm for comfort. You can head back the way you came or head East.

@Anathema of Light You enter the maze from the North. The atmosphere of the place already stinks of sulfur. Hopefully you can prevail against the flames that are certain to appear. After all, it is a Fire Swamp. In the dark, you can barely see the path ahead of you and it splits in two directions. You can go South or West.

@Zôrzimril You enter the maze from the North. The atmosphere of the place already stinks of sulfur. Perhaps danger awaits or perhaps you'll be able to safely pass through. There is no way to tell. It is dark and you tread carefully as you enter. You can go South or West.

@Allacan ob Burzum You enter the maze from the North. The atmosphere of the place already stinks of sulfur. Your sense to prove yourself will likely go unnoticed if you die in the Fire Swamp, but if you survive, tales will surely be told of your bravery. You tread carefully, but boldly as you enter. You can go South or West.

@Sparky Boy You enter the maze from the West. The atmosphere of the place already stinks of sulfur. Your hammer certainly makes for a formidable weapon, but who knows if it will be able to defeat an R.O.U.S. With a cheerful demeanor, who enter the maze and tread carefully in the dark. You can go North or South.

As the Dread Pirate headed east, he could have sworn he heard a growl coming from farther up the trail. He heard rumors that the Fire Swamp was home to creatures of immense size, and often scoffed at the idea that such a creature could exist, but now that he heard a growl that even seemed to send a shiver down his spine, he wasn't so sure. "Careful, Westley, this is nothing that you can't handle." he whispered to himself, as if hearing his own voice and revealing his true identity (though hopefully nobody else was around to hear him, especially not Prince Humperdinck himself) gave him the strength to go on. After all, he couldn't let Buttercup down, not after all the trouble he went through to finally track her down.

At the moment, the former farm boy had a decision to make; would he turn back and attempt to go in a different direction or would he head north and possibly come face to face with the owner of that growl that he heard earlier? Since he wasn't the type of person to second guess himself (or at least not at the moment), he decided to go in a more northerly direction in an attempt to finally be reunited with his beloved.

Sally had never wandered quite this far from Halloweentown before, but she thought she'd seen Zero wandering this way, and before she knew it she was stumbling across... some strange swamp maze. She'd been skeptical when Jack had relayed his experiences coming across the door to Christmastown, even after all the strange occurrences with... Sandy Claws, but now... now she wondered exactly how much of what he'd said was actually true.

Sally hesitated for a moment, but when she turned to look behind her, she found the scenery had changed, and nothing at all looked familiar anymore. So she cautiously approached the Fire Swamp, telling herself that if she could win her freedom from her creator, surely she could handle this too.

San with Moro

The wolf-girl and her mother plunged deeper into the swamp. Both wrinkled their noses at the overpowering smell of sulfur. Moro, who possessed actual wolf-senses, sneezed in irritation. San lifted her mask and pinched her nose with one hand, the other grasping her spear. The bright sunlight that had warmed them before entering the swamp had gone, replaced by cool shadow. Moro’s ears were pricked attentively, listening for any sound of approaching life. San swung her gaze about as they moved forward. Nothing emerged to confront them. Yet.

Thor already loved this place. It was dark, it stank like sulphur, and there were sure to be hidden beasties for him to slay hidden in all parts of these fire swamps. If only Loki could have been by his side, just like when they were boys. Loki probably would have used his illusions to try to hide and scar Thor too. Thor smiled fondly at the thought of his brother getting up to his usual shenanigans. Oh well, an adventure for another time. He sniffed around a bit, considering his options. The air to the North smelled a little less foul than the south, which meant he should probably head South. He headed that direction, a jovial hop in his step.

The Doctor

Ah. So this was what humans called 'a Maze'. A simple construction really, now that he came to think of it. A 50% chance each time, to go right, or wrong. All you needed to do, was to find your way out, without getting caught in the dangers there might be.
Since he could only chose to go South or return and follow Prince Humperdinck, the Doctor smiled and said: 'Oh well, why not. We'll see what we find if we take this next step. I'll continue my way not knowing what I will find. Just like Captain Janeway did with Voyager.'

While Melisandre may not have been the first red-gowned beauty to traverse the Fire Swamp, as a servant of the Lord of Light, she was certainly better equipped than that Buttercup woman. Fire was the medium of choice for her Lord, and his grace would surely see her safely to the other side.

Her red eyes took in the paths before her before striding into the Swamp from the South.

The night may be dark and full of terrors, but how bad could this Maze be? She had heard the one outside some Elven realm was diabolical...

Squeeeeeeeeeeelch. Squiiiiiish. Gloop! At least, that's what Yávië had expected to hear. Instead, there was silence. Mud failed to ooze in between his claws and gum up his paw pads. His ears twitched nervously and he chanced a look down. His paws, which should have been illuminated by the strange orange light that had taken to bobbing just below his eyes, were enveloped by the sheet and he couldn't make them out.

"W-w-woof?"

He took a few more experimental steps into the swamp and felt nothing. He tried jumping and suddenly felt...taller. This time, he refused to look anywhere but straight ahead as he continued, somehow, down the murky path and bore west.

Prince Humperdinck fastidiously brushed a piece of moss off his coast sleeve as he found he was getting close to the outer boundary of the Fire Swamp. Truly, he should probably just give up and go home. But would turning back be more dangerous? he wondered to himself.

The smell of sulfur was not as powerful, and he gladly took a few deep breaths of the cleaner air. He decided to head South, particularly as he was no longer sure he knew which way he had entered.

@Lady of Shadow You choose to go North. Oh no! Out of nowhere leaps an R.O.U.S.! They actually do exist! Please RP your fight with the creature and a roll of the dice will determine if you are successful. After the fight (if successful), you can go East, West, or South. If you are unsuccessful, I will let you know and the fight will continue until you either kill the creature or it kills you.

@Sally You enter the maze from the West. The warm, sticky atmosphere of the swamp is a bit overwhelming. Hopefully your stitched together body isn't too flammable. At least you have the advantage of ripping a seam if things become too dire. You can go North or South.

@Zôrzimril You choose to go South. So far everything seems to be okay, though the place certainly stinks. While danger hasn't yet appeared, it could be around any corner or just ahead. You can go back the way you came (North) or East.

@Sparky Boy You choose to go South. The dark of the Fire Swamp is a bit overwhelming, but at least nothing dangerous has happened … yet. You can go North or East.

@Eamila Bolger I think you may have been confused with the directions and sorry if I was confusing. You went South in the previous post, but your options this time were to go North (back the way you came) or East. Once you decide your possible direction, I'll give you your update)

@Laintaen You enter the maze from South. The darkness of the maze is menacing and the smell of sulfur is strong, but hopefully your unique relationship with flames helps you in your attempt to traverse the Fire Swamp. You can go North or East.

@Yávië You choose to go West. As you float along you begin to wonder what strange devilry is in this place and why on earth is the mud not making noise? Eventually the path turns. You can go East or South.

@Gwai-Gon Jinn You choose to go South. One of the many dangers of the Fire Swamp is that unfortunately a lack of the smell of sulfur does not mean lack of flame spurts. One erupts right next to you and scorches your clothes. RP your attempt to put out the fire, which will be determined by dice. If successful you can go East or West. If you are unable to put out the flames, I will let you know and you will continue to attempt to put out the flames until either your are successful or are burned to a crisp.

This fire swamp place had everyone riled up, for no good reason. This place didn't seem the least bit dangerous. Thor was growing confident that he could probably handle this place even without his hammer. They should build a hotel here! He sauntered east, confident that he would soon be out of the maze unscathed.

Shaking out her many layers of dresses and stockings, BooBoo frowned and sucked at her teeth. It was darker than the Pit of Despair in here, although at least it was warmer. The Pit always had an air of frigid doom about it. She squinted in the darkness as she undid a tattered shawl from her shoulders and removed her gloves. Never having been in a forest before, she certainly hadn't expected it to be so stuffy and warm. It appeared she could only go on in one direction, so BooBoo continued along the path, such as it was.

San with Moro

Snap. The sound of a stick breaking made San pause. Moro rumbled a low growl. They stood stock-still for several moments, waiting and straining to hear any other signs of disturbance. But there was nothing beyond the idle dripping of water somewhere not too far away, the croaking of frogs, and the buzz of flies. San scowled. This place was suspicious. Perhaps there was an angry demon waiting; this wetland had clearly been befouled by something unnatural. “Let’s go,” the wolf-girl whispered, and they moved further into the foul place.

"I knew I should have turned back," the Dread Pirate Roberts mused, when he found himself face to face with one of the creatures that he didn't think existed. But if he would have turned back, it meant letting Buttercup down, and he wasn't the type of person that gave up easily (at least he tried not to). Now facing one of the R.O.U.S. or creatures of immense size (they basically had the appearance of a large rat, but who knew what kind of creature they really were), the pirate in disquise had to try to defeat it so that he could continue on with his search for his beloved before she ended up marrying the wrong man (he didn't trust this Prince Humperdinck character).

When the R.O.U.S. first charged him, the former farm boy known as Westley got out his sword, and nearly got slashed by the creature when he took his eyes off it. "You think you can kill me that easily, do you?" the Dread Pirate challenged, as he rolled out of the way when the creature tried to swipe at him again, this time from a different direction. If only he could lure it onto one of the flame spurts, then it would be much easier to defeat, but he had no way of knowing he was close to one (you only knew this when the clothes you were wearing caught on fire, and although the clothes the Dread Pirate wore were torn in several places, they were in no way singed by one of the flame spurts in any place, at least not that he could see).

The R.O.U.S. now tried encircling him, as if to find some weak spot to attack (if the former farm boy had one, he was keeping it well hidden, pivoting first on one foot and then the other in order to keep a close eye on the creature at all times). Whilst trying to make another attack, the creature whelped in pain, as it managed to step onto a hidden flame spurt, causing it to back away.

Seeing this as his chance, the pirate in disguise came at him from a different direction in an attempt to lure the creature onto the hidden flame spurt once again, until it was so weak from being constantly singed in different places that it finally collapsed into a heap of smoke and burned fur (or whatever it was that covered its body). Slowly approaching it, the former farm boy kept at a safe distance until he knew it would no longer be a threat and he could continue on with his search.

"Oh, this will make me smell musty!" Sally cried as she stepped further into the maze and perused her options for where to go next. However, she was always on the lookout for different poisons--a hangover from her days being held captive by her creator--and the sulfurous fumes wafting through the air made her think she might find something of use in the Fire Swamp. She should have thought to bring some vials with her, if she'd known following Zero would bring her to something like this.

Once more, she looked at the different paths, and decided to head North.

The Red Priestess of R'hllor walked down the path, so far not feeling too uncomfortable. The night may be dark and full of terrors, but this swamp was dark and full of... She sniffed the air... Sulphur? Oh well, close enough.

She thought of the things she would need to do once she reached the other side of the Swamp. A few heretics to burn, someone to reanimate, plus hopefully she could do some jewellery shopping. Just because she couldn't take her necklace off in public, didn't mean she couldn't accessorise everywhere else.

She was jerked out of her musings by a fork in the swamp. Which way? East. All the best people came from the East.

Ah, he made it just another step closer to... to what actually? The Doctor didn't know. Why else would someone enter a bug like this if it wasn't to save a life?
Apperently humans would go into a maze just to find their way out again. Intriguing, but as Seven of Nine would say: inefficient.
Anyway: he was here now and determined to go on. There were strategies to find ones way out, or so he had heard. Commander Tuvok would most likely know a good one. But this wasn't just a maze... and each step without trouble seemed to make the chance of finding danger the next step, bigger.
'Well. I won't know what I am facing and if I can face it, without trying, right? Let's go North, where the cold winds come from!'
And off he went again, softly singing: 'How to save a life...'

North please

As it's the fire swamp, flames can appear at random. While there were a few fiery places already placed, I've declared this round a fire round and rolled dice for everyone (unless they were already fighting something) to determine if they were caught in a flame burst or not. This may or may not happen again.

@Sparky Boy You choose to go East. Perhaps your confidence is a bit overrated. A burst of flame appears right in front of you and singes your beautiful hair. Please RP your attempt to fight the flame. A dice roll will determine your success.

@Menolly You choose to go East. Hopefully you like the warm. As you head east, a flame spurt appears right next to your left side and catches the edge of your dress (or whatever it is you call your clothing). RP your attempt to put out the flame. Dice will determine your success.

@San You choose to go East. So far your luck as held as nothing untoward has appeared … yet. You can go North, South, or West.

@Lady of Shadow You rolled a 4 and the R.O.U.S. rolled a 6. Unfortunately this particular R.O.U.S. seems a bit too aggressive. Despite it's temporary collapse, it leaps up at you as you try and approach. Continue your fight with this vicious creature. Hopefully you can escape with all your limbs intact.

@Sally You choose to go North. So far all seems good, though you are correct about the smell. Hopefully there's some potion you can concoct that will help remove it from your limbs when this adventure is over. You can go East or South.

@Laintaen You choose to go East. So far no flames have appeared. Perhaps they can sense your ability to control flames. But there are other dangers besides fire in the Fire Swamp. Maybe your luck will continue to hold and maybe it won't. You can go North or West.

@Eamila Bolger You choose to go North, but suddenly a flame spurt appears out of nowhere. While the flames themselves can't damage you, they could damage your holo-emitter. How will you navigate the flames to avoid blinking out of existence? A dice roll will determine your success.

Weren't the flame spurts supposed to have a warning? Humperdinck wondered to himself as flames shot all around. Unfortunately, wearing poufy sleeves had its downsides, and his puffy shirt immediately caught on fire. He knew he should have dressed a bit less dashingly, but the pirate look was in this year. "But I don't to be a pirate!" he whined as he stopped, dropped, and rolled, trying to put the flames out.

Even if he succeeded, he was scared now to be seen in public. What would people say, if he only had one sleeve left? Also, he was still packing those extra pounds from Christmas, but with the Plague about he really hadn't wanted to go back to the gym.

If Humperdink survives (and I'm pretty sure he's the only one who cares about his fate), he will go east!

Sally was grateful that, so far, she seemed to be avoiding anything truly dangerous. She'd long lost sight of Zero now, though, and she silently wrung her hands as she looked back and forth, deciding which way to go. Wrinkling her nose at the smell of the swamp, she scowled slightly and then continued on, heading East.

Dread Pirate Roberts

It seemed that this particular R.O.U.S. was a lot tougher than it looked, since as the Dread Pirate watched, it was up and on top of him in an instant. Now the former farm boy had no choice but to try and put it out of its misery.

Trying to grab onto the one front paw that seemed to continuously try to rip him apart, the Dread Pirate began slashing at the other one with all of his might, until he was able to injure the creature enough that it partially rolled off of him, allowing the pirate in disguise to get to his feet and try to get the upper hand. "You're a lot tougher than you look, aren't you?" the former farm boy sneered at his opponent, trying to find a way to lure it back onto the hidden flame spurt once again, in an attempt to weaken it enough that he could end its miserable existence. Darting to the left as the creature got up and attempted to jump on top of the Dread Pirate Roberts once again, the creature miscalculated and ended up in a heap just to the left of the hidden flame spurt.

Westley, not taking any chances this time, raised his sword and began slashing at the creature's front paws, trying to injure it enough that the R.O.U.S. would be weakened enough to give up its attempt to try and end the Dread Pirate's quest before it had a chance to begin, dooming Buttercup to be married to a man she didn't love and continued to be booed by a person that probably never saw love in her pathetic excuse for a life.

"No, I can't let Buttercup down!" the former farm boy known as Westley thought, continuously hacking away at the front paws of the creature until he could see some bones almost sticking out. This time, hopefully, the creature would stay grounded and the one known as the Dread Pirate can continue on with his search. He just hoped he wasn't too late by the time he made it out of the Fire Swamp (which is more than he could say for this Prince Humperdinck character).

'What on earth is that!' With a frown on his face and a shocked grin the Doctor stared at the yellow flame that suddenly was close to him.
'Who thinks this is funny? Where did that flame come from?' He tried to tip toe around it, but that didn't work.
With a big sigh he tapped his mobile emitter. He would have to reappear on the other side.
Tap tap, tap tap... what was that? It didn't work... was it affected by the heat? That wasn't good... if he didn't want his program to vaporize and himself to be lost forever here in this swamp, he better hurry.
'Well. Right. It seems I have to do this the unconventional way.'
He took the isolation blanket from his medical bag and covered his whole body in it, making sure that his mobile emitter was safe. Then he started running... through the flames to the other side.

San with Moro

“This is suspicious,” San muttered to Moro. The two were walking side by side through the swamp. “Why would such a foul place be so empty?” She sniffed the air once more, hoping to catch the scent of something, anything, but the pervasive smell of sulfur. Her human senses failed her.

Moro wrinkled her nose. “This place is not empty,” she said simply and ominously. “The worst remains hidden - for now.”

“Why did we even have to come here?” San questioned. “It’s so much cleaner back in our home forest, even with those horrible Iron Town people about.”

Moro stared at her human daughter. “You will see in time.” The wolf goddess padded onward, and San walked quickly to keep pace.

@Gwai-Gon Jinn It's your lucky day. You rolled a 3 and the fire rolled a 1. The spark from the flame burst is a minor one that quickly peters out and you manage to escape, though without part of your ostentatious sleeve. You head East and all seems to be quiet again, but the dangers of the Fire Swamp are always lurking. Do you head North, South, or West?

@WRONG LEVER KRONK! Oh no! You've run across and R.O.U.S. and he looks at your stitched together body with a gleam in his eyes. How are you going to fight this terrible creature?

@Lady of Shadow You rolled a 2 and the R.O.U.S. rolled a 1. Somehow despite your exhaustion and likely injuries from the horrid creature, you manage to defeat it. A pitiful fire burst flares up right where the R.O.U.S fell and it startles it just long enough for you to make your escape. Do you head East or West?

@Eamila Bolger You roll a 2 and the fire rolls a 3. While the isolation blanket is a good idea in theory, it is not impervious to the flames of the Fire Swamp. As you try to make your way through the burst of flame, a corner of the blanket catches fire. Do you keep trying to head through the flame and hope that the blanket lasts long enough to protect your mobile emitter or do you take a step back and attempt to put out the fire in the blanket?

@San In a surprising twist of fate, your luck continues to hold. The path you are trying to follow leads to a dark corner heading East. Do you go around the corner or do you head back the way you came?

Dread Pirate Roberts

Even though the R.O.U.S. collapsed just to the left of where the Dread Pirate Roberts thought that the hidden flame spurt was located, a pitiful fire burst seemed to flare up right where the creature of immense size collapsed, so that the former farm boy was finally able to continue on with his quest.

"I guess I was mistaken of where the hidden flame spurt was located." the pirate in disguise mused, but which direction should he take now? Since the R.O.U.S. collapsed to the left, which would have been west, perhaps the right course of action would be to go east, and hope that he didn't run into any more of these pitiful creatures, but wouldn't that result in him going back the way he had come? If that were the case, perhaps he should take the opposite direction, which would be west, and hope there weren't any more hidden flame spurts. It wasn't hard to get lost within such a maze, since there seemed to be many dangers. The question was, which danger was the one known as the Dread Pirate Roberts willing to face next in order to be finally reunited with his beloved? Was she even worth all of this hassle? "To avoid being married to someone she doesn't love and being constantly booed upon by someone that doesn't know what true love really is? Most definitely." the former farm boy known as Westley concluded, not ready to give up on Buttercup just yet.

To the west, please

The Doctor

Oh dear. This adventure seemed to make a rather unpleasant turn. What to do? Two options? Both running through the fire and frantically hitting the fire weren't the logical thing to do, according to the Doctor. But this fire wasn't logical, this situation wasn't logical.
'Help?', the Doctor said out loud. But he realized he was alone. He had no choice, or actually, he had. If he took the blanket off to try and put out the fire, would his emitter endure? He thought not. Only if he stepped back. Or he could keep running and try to keep the fire behind him. He would be able to leave the burning blanket behind as soon as he had passed the flames. He chose the latter and ran even faster...

Sally was used to frightening, gruesome creatures, but the gleam in the eye of this... strangely large rodent was one that would have sent a chill through her if she wasn't a ragdoll, for all intents and purposes. But, being a ragdoll stuffed with dead leaves meant that she could climb and do so quite easily.

As the ROUS charged, Sally quickly leapt upward into tree limbs and vines overhead, hoping to pull herself out of reach of the creature, and then swing over it and continue down the path.

Thornspawn, with Diablo in his branches

This place looked dangerous and forbidding the further inside he went. The ent nodded to himself. Yes, yes this would do just fine. If he could find the heart of this fiery swamp, he could make this his base of operations. All the greatest villains had a lair that suited their inexhaustible imaginations and their dark soul wanderings. This place could be his! He hroomed and hrummed. The crows that crowned his vastarien grimness seemed pleased as well. They caw and squawked their ravenous approval. All except this new one, larger and more sinister than all the rest. He had perched himself down closer to Thornspawn’s ear and whispered things to him. Somewhere in his life, this great carrion beast had learned the power of speech and persuasion. “This shall all be yours, if thou but reach out thine hand to seize it.”

Avarice fed avarice and greed spun greed. Onward Thornspawn would go.

He bobbed. He wisp-ed. He whooshed. He swooshed. He was definitely, one hundred percent, absolutely positively floating. There were no two ways about it. "Oh dear," Yávië woofed. He almost moved to yank the mysterious white sheet off of himself with his teeth but felt oddly reluctant at the thought.

Zero...Zeeeeeero... a strange voice seemed to call out as he fretted. He spun around, looping easily in the air, but he couldn't see anything in the murky confines of the swamp. The path split again and he turned SOUTH, to where he thought the call had come from.

"I wonder who Zero is..." he mumbled to himself. Unnoticed, his nose turned a little more pumpkin shaped.

Assistant Brute

Brutey stepped carefully as he went, holding his sword out ahead of him in readiness for an attack and trying not to breath too loudly or stand on anything that might give him away to the denizens of the Fire-swamp. So far so good, he thought to himself before chastising himself for being overly optimistic. It would take a while for the denizens to take notice of someone inferior like him, but as soon as he was in their sights they would hone in on him like a phaser-blast at a red-shirt. The woods closed in ahead of him, blocking his forward path, and he considered that he could either turn left or turn back, these being the only passable routes available to him. He realised then that he had no way of knowing if the forest moved, or if the ground shifted, and backwards might still lead him deeper, so he could not possibly know which way was correct. "Eenie, meenie, miney, mo..." he whispered quietly under his breath, eventually taking the path that in he liked to imagine looked just a little bit lighter and less sinister.

West please

San with Moro

The wolf-girl and her mother made their slow way through the swamp. San had released her grip on her nose by now, resigned to the sulfuric odor which permeated the place. Behind the red, black, and yellow mask, her brow was furrowed with suspicion. This was a very, very strange place.

Moro, for her part, was largely unconcerned. She was proud to have raised a keenly observant daughter, particularly proud of the fact that San saw her own kind with suspicion. Humans could do good - San herself was living proof of that - but, on the whole, Moro thought, they typically brought destruction and waste with them. And so she did not object to her daughter's suspicions, yet still moved forward with confidence.

Their path through the place appeared to veer east ahead of them. Mother and daughter paused. San pushed back the hood of her cloak to look Moro in the eye. Her eyes asked the question wordlessly.

Moro sniffed the air, then nodded. They moved forward along their path, following its curve.

@Lady of Shadow You head West. Nothing jumps out at you and the air is eerily quiet. You can travel North, South, or back East.

@Eamila Bolger You rolled a 6 and the fire rolled a 5. Your attempt to finish running through the flames is successful and just as you step out of the fire the flames disappear as they weren't even there. You can travel South, or back West.

@WRONG LEVER KRONK! You roll a 6 and the R.O.U.S. rolled a 4. Your attempt to swing overhead is successful, but the creature still manages to nip you. Is that a small tear in your foot or are the shadows just playing tricks on your eyes? You can travel East, West, or back South.

@Iorek Byrnison (Frost) You travel west. There's nothing here so far except for the dark and that awful smell of sulfur, which might indicate nearby fire. You can travel South or back East.

@Yávië You travel south. A flame spurt appears right in front of you blocking your way. Strangely enough you're unable to smell or feel the heat, but it still seems a bit sinister. How do you deal with it?

@Allacan ob Burzum You travel West. Perhaps your brutish nature is scaring the Fire Swamp as nothing dangerous has happened to you yet, though it is getting harder to see. You can travel South or back East.

@San Oh no! The ground suddenly disappears below your feet and you fall into a pit of Snow Sand! How do you manage to get out without suffocating to death? (One or both of your characters to fall into the sand).

So far, things were going well. Clearly this Fire Swamp accepted her, as it had clearly accepted the Lord of Light as its namesake. She would swan through this tangle of trees and smells as easily as she did through Stannis' court. And this time, she wouldn't have meddlers like Maester Cressen or Davos Seaworth trying to get in her way.

She reached the next fork. East was no longer an option. However, she had heard there were battles to be fought in the North. So she would head North.
