I promise I spelled Barad-dûr correctly the second time. If I post again will the edited version show up on the last posted thread preview?

edit: it WILL. Huzzah.

I was wondering if you would resurrect Thief Hunt in Mordor, since Naelia doesn't mind hunting for thieves in some of the free lands (as long as it's not an Elven land, or else I'd have to bring in Talina), but she feels more comfortable in her own kingdom (so that the freeps don't get any ideas that she might be turning, which is definitely not the case) and sorry to see you step down as Admin, but hopefully you'll still be wearing the icon of the Lidless Eye (the only time I switch is during Halloween season, but it's only temporary, though I did try the Halloween Thief Hunt, even though the only bears I'm familiar enough with to role play as are from TaleSpin and The Cleveland Show). :whip:

I certainly will resurrect Thief Hunt, but Frost and I are working together to both spread the Thief Hunt love around the plaza, and not burn people out by having too many versions going at once! So tell Naelia to be patient, it'll be back soon enough

And I will of course be wearing my lidless eye :smooch: :whip:

Hear ye! Hear ye! Might I have your wretched attention for just a spell! @Romeran has subjected himself to the whims of the fighting pits of the Necromancer's Guild, but he needs a challenger! Who among you will step up and deny him the glory of victory in a fisticuff duel? Surely you don't want to leave him against me? I will, in all likelihood, cheat until the fell beasts come home and doesn't he deserve an honorable defeat?

@Winddancer, @Moriel, @Aranadhel, or anyone else who thinks they might be worthy? What say you?

Necromancer's Guild, like everything in Mordor, is frozen in time until we decide to thaw it out and pretend as though no time has passed. It works wonders for longevity, none of us will ever die as long as we have our cryonics

@Moriel No worries. I have as well lots of sleepless nights worrying about my friends/old dance instructors (who blessedly live in Lviv not Kyiv) dealing with the death of my final rat and attempting to break my left kneecap cleaning out the back of my dads old truck... So honestly No worries at all.

Fleeg and Phlegm might be goblins (shamelessly stolen from D&D's aesthetics) but Sarghêst, Horna, Kadaug, Nyrrigos, Uada, Drudkh, Rök, Zuriaake, Gaoth, Draìocht, Mozran, Duathion, and Watain are all orcs. And arguably, Sarghêst is smarter than half the elves in Rivendell.

Careful how loud you bash the Necromancer's Guild though, the owner is, in fact, a Númenórean of very ancient lineage and very, very short temper.

Sarghêst and his brother managed to steal an entire wagon full of book from Rivendell bound for the library of Minas Tirith with topics ranging from art, literature, philosophy, rhetorics, linguistics, anthropology, historiography, political science, etc., etc. They read them, memorized them, and are finding ways to implement them in Mordor and in Angmar. He can also quote Shakespeare and I would like to see Elrond manage that.

The Númenórean in question (never refer to him as a Black Númenórean because that will launch him into a tirade about semantics and who the real traitors were) is Frost (real name redacted) who's House, Nûlukhô, goes all the way back to Anadûnê where they were keepers and breeders of the royal ravens.

the anger emoji? interesting

But as to the "worshipping" or Morgoth. I take all of that with a grain of salt, a very large grain in fact. It is highly, highly unlikely that all the King's Men "worshipped" Morgoth because historically, accusations of worshiping the devil far outnumbered the people that actually did (or do). Even the Golden One, Ar-Pharazôn, likely didn't worship Morgoth. I tend to look at it like Constantine the Great, the emperor that forced Christianity to become the state religion in the later Roman Empire. He didn't even convert until his deathbed. Christianity (and the worship of Morgoth) were just vehicles for said rulers to reach their political goals. Constantine gained control of the throne and defeated his rivals, and Ar-Pharazôn expelled the Faithful and began his war against the Valar.

Were the Third Age Númenóreans good? No, not even Frost would call himself good (he'd laugh at that idea), but I think most of the survivors of Númenor would balk at being called evil by a bunch of people they considered traitors.

You seem to love your grain of salt lol.

Jokes aside tis interesting how you relate it to RL history. But how would the Faithful see the King's Men as traitors vis a vis?

They're the same people, just with different idealogy. I don't see BN as evil, just been waylaid from gaining true knowledge.

I think you answered your own question really. They are the same people, just split on ideology. Númenóreans (the King's Men) see the Gondorians (Faithful) as traitors for siding with the elves and the West over their own people and establishing exile kingdoms that (in their opinion) erase the history of Anadûnê. Conversely, Gondorians see Númenóreans as traitors for abandoning the original charge they were given.

It all depends on what angle you look at them

Since when does Gondor see Numenor as traitors? Erase the history of Anadune how again? They still speak Adunaic... it's not like the Faithful suddenly develop pointed ears and became immortal over a fortnight... :headbang:

Now now, don't twist things up by making up statements I didn't say. I didn't say Gondorians saw Númenor as traitorous; I said they saw Númenóreans (what you're calling Black Númenóreans) as traitors because they abandoned the original mandate given to them by the Valar when Númenor was first risen.

And, again, the Númenóreans (or Umbareans if you will) saw Gondorians (descendants of the Faithful) as traitors because they put the culture and language of the elves ahead of the old Númenórean. The Exile Kingdoms predominately spoke Sindarin or Westron, not Adunaic. While Adunaic is still spoken in some circles, it's not the linga franca of the descendants of Númenor as it once was.

I'm not saying either one of them is right or wrong (or even that this is what the professor intended) it's my own take from the situation from my own experience living in La Frontera and having a dozen or so different cultures and histories intersecting.

Funny how you mentioned the BC saw the Faithful because they followed the culture and language of the Elves when the forefather of Numenor is Elros Tar Minyatur and as you can tell the names of the Kings and Queens of Numenor is in fact Quenyan.

How do you know the Exiles of Numenor in Arda don't speak in Adunaic when Aragorn himself was taught in al 3
