Dear all,

As you might have guessed from the thread title you are faced with an admin resignation; to be more precise with my and Moriel’s resignation from the admin position. Her response will come right after mine, so please hold, caller. This might come as a surprise to you (if this is even something you care about) and you might be wondering what’s happening behind the scenes to cause this.

The truth is, there is no drama behind my resignation. Anticlimactic, I know. You must have expected more from this Fool of a Took – nudging a rusty bucket down a well that wakes a Balrog of Morgoth that kills Gandalf… Nothing so epic here, I’m afraid. The reasons for my resignation are rather mundane and are health-related (no, not COVID *knocks on wood*). Unfortunately, dealing with those issues has taken longer than I would have wanted and has taken a significant amount of my free time.

Seeing that I was not able to dedicate enough time and attention to the Plaza and with my upcoming dental surgery on the 16th of this month, I will be absent from the Plaza far longer than I ever thought or planned. While this is certainly not how I planned for my second admin term to start, life happened (it usually does). Looking ahead and considering everything, I cannot, in good conscience, stay on as admin if I cannot dedicate enough time to do this job professionally and to the utmost of my abilities. I accepted this job because I wanted to help this community and it would not be fair, ethical or professional of me to stay in this position if I (for any reason) cannot do this job well and contribute to the community.

For the most part, being an admin on the NuPlaza was an honour and a privilege and I will forever be grateful to the people who thought I could do this job and who took the time to nominate me and vote for me. I’m very grateful to the past and current admins who took the time to teach me the skills needed to do this job and who made working with them a pleasant experience. This job wasn’t always roses and unicorn farts (no job is), but looking back on it, it was (for the most part) a great and positive experience.

I am saying goodbye to my admin job and taking a (shortish) break from the Plaza. However, this is not goodbye from the Plaza, for (as Arnold so eloquently put it) I’ll be back.

My dear friends of the Plaza,

For personal reasons, I have decided to resign the position of admin.

When I chose to run for reelection this term, I did so fully intending to see it through, as I have every time before. Unfortunately, I now find myself unable to do so. I might be back in the running the the future, but for the moment, I need to step away from adminship and let the Plaza go back to being solely a place where I can write and have fun and enjoy myself with friends.

As I’ve said on multiple occasions, it has been my honor and privilege to serve this community as admin. Through good times and challenging ones, I’ve never taken a single moment of your confidence and trust for granted, and have zero regrets about choosing to work for you, since the very first election. You are the heart and soul of the Plaza, and we wouldn’t be here without you.

Thank you for allowing me to harry across the sky as Tilion.

Now… where did I leave my whip and flaming eye?!?

P.S. - as Nessa said, Narv will be along shortly in a separate thread to talk about what happens next, with two admin vacancies. For now, please hold your questions on that front until he has a chance to post!

Just poppin in to say what I've told you both already, that you've both been wonderful to work with and the plaza has been very lucky to have both of you helping steer the ship. You will be missed but hopefully we'll still be seeing you around lots in due course and if either of you ever decide to throw your respective hats back in the ring for the inordinate nuisance that is adminship, you will have my full and grateful endorsement. Thank yous for everything!

Thank you for the time and effort you've put into your roles and for being a part in making the Plaza what it is. Coffee is at 8 and 3. The pot is always on. There's tea too, even though I can't promise a wide variety of selections. Don't bother knocking.

Thanks to both of you for your time and effort on the plaza, I hope to see you both back on the Plaza eventually even if it's not as admins as you're both fantastic to RP with/read your storytelling. I realize that for a little bit I'm only going to get to see that from Moriel but I will keep my fingers crossed for Nessa that the illness part goes well (for her not the illness) and that after surgery recovery she's got more time and energy for writing.

And where Boromir can't promise a wide selection of tea... I've got a pretty shmancy collection I'm willing to share including some home brewed ones as well as fancy bought ones (I don't do coffee so he's in charge of that lol)

Thank you both for giving and doing all that you have. I appreciate you both for all of that and while I'd love to see you finish your term, I respect your choices to step down. Despite perhaps being a bit less visible in terms of posting, I know you have been both there caring for the community and looking out for its, and all of our, best interests. I wish you both the very best and hope to see you around as much or as little as you choose without any of the expectation or responsibility that comes with adminship! feel free to wheel or walker your way into the retirement home in style anytime! Oh this kind of sucks, but I understand and respect your decisions. You’ve both been super and I know how much behind the scenes work goes into being an admin - not just the posting and tribbing but the hours spent mediating, reading, thinking and planning, and I appreciate you both. @Nessa Saelind @Moriel, you both give so much of yourselves to the Plaza, whether you are Admin or otherwise, I am sorry to hear that RL has been making it difficult for you lately to manage all that you clearly wish to do. But at least our loss is your RL gain. And that, through making this difficult decision, your lives will hopefully soon regain some better balance to keep you each healthy and happy.
