Oooh, I'm excited to follow along -- and that first pic is already so great. I'm a big fan of weird root patterns like that... amazing to see how much time and trees can do.

@Androthelm Welcome on board! :P And me too! This tree is sooo weird, growing on a frigging rock with no soil!
@Aikári Salmarinian oh we aren't travelling in that way ;) Pics will be from day trips we have done here in July/August and going forward. There is SO much to see just an hour from where we live, it's insane :D

Next up is Knaresborough and Mother Shipton's cave:

Knaresborough seen from the trail to Mother Shipton's Cave

It has water that turns items to stone! (so they hang stuff in the dripping water to do that)

The view from the Castle ruins (just to the left in the pic is where the trail to Mother Shipton's cave is)

The Castle ruins

Will definitely be going back to Knaresborough when the leaves change colour!

Ohhh love these photos! Especially the first tree! am also a fan of the weird roots and shaping of it due to wind erosion and whatever else.

The cave looks a bit creepy to me with the toys? but the fact that they get turned into stone (I'm guessing a high lime/chalk content? Or similar??) is pretty cool. Can't wait to see the castle photos from this area when the autumn leaves are out.

@Fuin Elda I have no idea what makes it petrify the objects, must be some kind of mineral. But I was MASSIVELY disappointed that there were none to buy, given that it says on the site you can :(

Barnard Castle and view from there

Winddancer: That is all inviting me to come over and see for myself, not that I can in the circumstances. But it is awesome to see all of it through your eyes, and knowing your steps are out there, invisible carved in the ground. Trees of many years old get those full forms. The same amount of tree sprouts in the ground also, making as twice as large as aboveground. Thanks for sharing about the castles too, I love those and imagine how it would look like undamaged.

And here is a castle for you!

Bowes Castle. We were the only ones there and it is literally in peoples back yard! :O

Winddancer: Perhaps I will in time *g* But till then I can see the world through your eyes. Thanks for the castle! Perhaps I could write an inspired knight short tale around it? Is that your hubby with Triskelion Games written on the back of his shirt?

Aiks: keep the dream alive! And you are more than welcome to join me here as we explore :D And yes, that is Naith exploring the colours of the stonework. Painter at heart lol

Btw anyone watch the Witcher? Well of course we had to go where some of it was filmed. We have now been to two of the locations. one being Fountains Abbey. It's also where 3 of those trees above are from.

*joins Winddancer at the fort* I have seen all Witchers games series played by fans on Youtube. So I know who the Witchers are. Cool the cathedral is. I believe it is also the place where some Potter scenes were filmed. Some of it looks familiar.

I love the ruins and the trees. Absolutely adore the pictures of the vaulted ceilings and the arches (possible buttresses?) I think my favourite is the interior shot of the tower (this is my assumption of the location) on the 17th.

They are gorgeous aren't they? Of course more so in person, camera never does it 100% justice. The tower is the prison tower of Barnard Castle :D You could actually climb up the original stairs almost to the top!

There is a lot of history in these photos. So interesting to think that people lived and died in these towers and castles. Thanks for the tour, Windy!

@Drifa I think that every time we go to places like this! That hundreds of years ago people ate, slept and worked there, boggles my mind.

Speaking of Witcher, this is where Ciri tries to build a bridge across the river. Called Low force waterfall, we also hiked to the High Force and got absolutely DRENCHED on the way home as it poured down lol.

Hi @Winddancer/Windy! I hope the tour didn't end with the drenching. I am sending you a warm greeting!
