The best music?

"As for myself," said Eomer, "I have little knowledge of these deep matters; but I need it not."

Which is your favourite piece of music written for / inspired by the works of Tolkien?

I will always love the soundtracks by Howard Shore - his leitmotif work is absolutely stand-out. The moment in the films when the Fellowship are all shown together for the first time unites in The Ring Goes South is absolutely magnificent.

I also really love the atmospheric setting of “Far under the Misty Mountains Cold” sung in The Hobbit.

Tell me which pieces you love, and why!

I loved this the very first time I heard it.

Fellowship's entire soundtrack knocked all our socks off. Still the best, I feel - but the sprinkling of Into the West that permeates Return is just gorgeous.
The Wood-elves lingered in the twilight of our Sun and Moon, but loved best the stars.

For actual “songs”, like with words in, I do really like the final tracks on the Hobbit films: Song of the lonely mountain by Neil Finn, I see fire by Ed Sheeran, and that one what Pippin sings
