RIP Bernard Hill

Aka the actor who played King Theoden. Here are one and two clips from an earlier character.

I feel like, because he lived a long, full life, I shouldn't feel as robbed or bereft by the loss of Bernard Hill, but I do. I think it has something to do with the fact that we are getting further and further from the Peter Jackson films and because they were so seminal in people's lives (aka mine) they act as a touchstone, a still point in the timeline, the losses of Christopher Lee and Ian Holm, alike make it feel like that touchstone is beginning to crumble, which is scary feeling.

They do act as a touchstone. As time passes my view of those three movies becomes increasingly critical. But Theoden, King of Rohan, remains solid! He was just great, as I think was most if not all of Rohan, including - maybe especially - the music.

I feel very similar to you, @Dungeon Delver. It's not so much that I feel like "I'm getting old' (I'm actually enjoying the aging process, I guess) but it's how things and people are starting to 'fall away' that can get scary for me.
Bernard Hill was a wonderful actor and he did so well with Theoden. RIP, sir!
