@Bereth when is Midsummer's Eve? Depending on what we do and how quick people work we possibly could. I mean, a scavenger hunt through the Riddermarket would be fun, and if we did previously-done threads like the bathtub race and Miss Meduseld, those threads can be grabbed out of the Wayback Machine, edited and done.

@Shivased Midsummer’s Eve is traditionally June 24 ( I always thought it was the night of the summer solstice, the shortest night of the year, June 20-21, but apparently not always) So we could do either the 21st or 24th, but both are not very far away. It usually involves dancing, bonfires and picking flowers to make wreaths to place on the “Midsummer Pole” (Maypole), any of which might be really lovely things to try and incorporate into the festival!

So I've been thinking, and I know that my favorite part of the summer festival was always the tournament, but I doubt we have quite enough members (especially Cav members) to kick up quite enough interest in that yet, although we could definitely probably pull interest in from other kingdoms, especially if we're the only place doing a summer festival. I don't recall if anyone else ever had a tradition of a summer festival, but to be honest I never wandered much either in my previous time on the plaza.

I also have no recollection of how the summer festival tournaments were run, other than that they were dice-based. I can try and dig up some old threads, though.

I also found the starting post for the 2nd Annual Miss Meduseld contest (which happened for the fall festival that time) in my files, so we've got a base for that, but it would DEFINITELY need to be tweaked for a smaller participation pool AND for inter-kingdom participation if that's what we want to do for sure.

@Bereth oh, we definitely have time to get the festival ready for that! I am going to start a planning thread tomorrow, so we have suggestions/ideas/thoughts all in one place.

@Taethowen A tournament would be so fun! I kinda want to do that if we could get enough people together!

@Taethowen I was planning on resurrecting the old Campian thread for a tournament-esque event and have some pretty concrete ideas about how I would go about making it work with dice but still encourage RP; it would be a one-off free for all melee skirmish where all competitors compete against everyone else in the field to decide a champion. The game would be broken down into rounds with players choosing targets to attack and the success of those attacks being determined by a dice roll. (I run a lot of dice-based RPGs these days so pretty confident I can design a simple but flavoursome system that would work).

It would be open to all kingdoms so that warriors from across Middle Earth can compete to become Tournament Champion, and I'd tweak the system depending on how many players signed-up so it doesn't go on too long/end too soon. I'd have opened it already if I wasn't holding onto it as a potential festival thread.

Also ehm... just as a little notice.. though I think most people have figured that out. I am doing a 'thing'. If you see a post with this symbol

It's related to the 'thing'. The 'thing' is slow building and ehm.. may be in more than one kingdoms. Don't rush the thing. Like a good sour dough starter it needs some time to ehm rise and become active. On the other hand, do involve yourself with the thing when you can and if you want.

@Rowena Ellenweorc I have ended up getting waaaaay more involved outside of Rohan then I'd ever initially anticipated doing, and may be stretched a little thin. Do you mind if I use Thali's Cav training mix-up as a way of having her wash out entirely? I just don't think I'm going to have the time necessary to devote to being an involved Cav officer. I'll post, of course, giving you good reason to turn her down, and you can feel free to scold her soundly :smiley10: It should lend a little more interest to the many re-entries going on anyway, having someone crash and burn :smiley8:

@Shivased I think I may have neglected to mention to you that my shop in the Riddermarket is run by an NPC—12 year old Beda (the Talker). Eléo sold it off some time ago to Beda’s mother, who seems to be perpetually sick, or with child, or with sick child, so it’s left to the eldest to run.

Also I know you and Shiv have been talking on discord, Shiv knows the answers to the questions if you need help and do want to stick around, you can prod her since I'm terrible at discord stuff, obviously she's not gonna give you the answers but hints might be possible. On another topic, my fellow Rohirrim - how would you like to see an Archive Thread? It would be helpful for others down the line who might be looking for Wayback'ed threads as we have all experienced the frustrations of trying to do so...

A few kingdoms have begun archive threads of their own:
The Shire
Imladris
Mordor
and there is the Icon Workshop in CoLP where many old icons are being re-brought to life.

I'm happy to get it started and do some work on it if you all are happy to see it! I kind of like projects like this.

An Archive is a fab idea. I've got quite a few threads saved on my PC that span late 2005-2013. They contain many of the SRC and Halloween icons.

How do we go about correlating and presenting all the old data?

Here's a link to several maps I made back in the day.
They're of the Riddermark with various representations of settlements, rivers etc.

Also included are schematic maps of two of the great battles of the Third Age. Clicking East etc on the compass moves through stages of each battle.

There's also a map of Edoras which has a layout of the Cav Courtyard, based on an original by Eile.

@Rivvy Elf The dragon is in deference to one particular Marshal/Feldmarshal or ex-Marshal/ex-Feldmarshal. Get her angry and you'll definitely see her fiery breath... at least, in the few seconds of life remaining to you

@Lailyn Thanks for offering to do that. I found Eldy's old Wayback machine not long ago which had plaza houses and kingdom pages on it. I also have my defunct Photobucket account with a few things lurking if that would help?

@Aodh Hammerhelm - ohhh my gosh your maps! I always loved those! So gorgeous and so useful. In regards to how to start, I'll get a thread up here in the next couple of days and start getting things together. I'm thinking to fashion it like the Shire archive thread. Its very neat and organized. The threads you have archived - that is amazing! I'm very impressed with your record-keeping. If you can think of a good way to get some of the info up, I'm sure it would be really helpful.

@Allacan Beorhtlig - Oh yes! Eldy's page is great. Thanks for the reminder. Sure if you think you have anything on your photobucket (I haven't been able to login to my old one), feel free to post it in the thread when I get it up.

I've got a few RPs I'd like to run through before the Summer Fest kicks off. They involve various NPCs of mine from the old days.

I'd planned to post their progress in the Life thread but noticed this rule: "This is the daily life free RP thread of Rohan. A new thread will open for travel specific adventures (Fields and Forests). So try to keep the traveling at a minimum."

I can set up and run The Fields thread if that's okay? I could have them all pop up in Edoras, I suppose. I'm a bit of a sucker for chronology though, not to mention a lover of spinning long-winded tales.

Yeah I was waiting for SOMEONE @Shivased to help me finding original FaF OPs since I've been busy with school. If you want to open it though, by all means, go right ahead!!!!! FaF has never been my real strong suit RPwise so yeah that's part of the delay. Someone else is free to run it though!
