Gladhron & Gwestion
In the woods
Together, after meeting up with each other at the back of the cabin, Gwestion and Gladhron cut across the overgrown yard to join Celume. They both kept alert as they went, making sure they weren't going to walk into anything unexpected. There had been no one, and no sign of anyone, anywhere around the perimeter. And the call from Celume had proven that she found it to be safe.
As they dismounted and left their horses beside Narsule, Gwestion frowned to see the state of the cabin. "Windows smashed.. door busted in." He glanced at Gladhron, then followed as his brother up onto the porch to join Celume at the doorway.
"Looks like quite a fight happened here," Gladhron remarked, looking around through the open doorway. He sighed, then looked at Gwestion.
"This.. seems to have happened months ago." Gwestion said softly. Probably, around the time that the man had been expected to arrive to take over running the inn. The last known time anyone had had any dealings with the fellow had been when Mr. Greylake sold the inn to him.
"I'll.. look around outside." Gladhron offered. They had checked around the edges of the property, but had stayed within the treeline. And when coming to join her, they had simply cut across the yard on one side of the house. He set out now to do a more thorough search of the yard and exterior of the cabin, to look for more clues.
Gwestion gave a small nod, closing his eyes briefly as he drew in a slow breath. This was not what he had hoped to find. Steeling himself, he opened his eyes again and looked at Celume. "Shall we see what clues we can find, inside?" He asked quietly.
Searching inside provided little information, but it was clear that the place had been ransacked. Everything that might have held any value had been taken, including food and other basic necessities. The only indication of who might be responsible for this was discovered on one of the walls. A sharp blade had been used to scratch the rough sketch of a snake into the wood there. Even with it being a rough sketch, lines had been added to the length of its body to make the snake resemble a copperhead, so there would be no mistake what sort of snake it was meant to be.
Gladhron came quietly while Gwestion was frowning at the image of the snake. "I.. think I found him," he spoke reluctantly. "It's um.. well, it's impossible to tell, but.." He motioned to the snake emblem and then glanced at Celume. "It's unlikely it would be anyone else." He shrugged, and looked at Gwestion. "We could not have prevented this, you know."
"Yeah.. I know." Gwestion rubbed a hand over his face, sighing, then turned to face them, keeping a neutral expression. "What now?"
