O wow! I heard this song at someone's house around 1990 and have been trying to find it again ever since.

Hi @VelvetineZone ! How are you?
The URL tab is the icon that looks like two chain links between the image and colour tab. You should have a good-looking link if you set your link up, as I demonstrated above, minus the spaced asterisk.
Good luck!

I am inspired. Am going to ask oldest son to get me the first series of Detectorists, to watch once the terrible two are asleep.

Detectorists is my very favourite of his songs.
Plus The Water which he sings with Laura Marling.
The Detectorists series is good too.

In fact I love that Detectorists song so much it featured twice in a story I wrote last year.

I have a soft spot for this old punk band, terrible as they may be. Mainly because of their name, but also because of their classy early song 'So What' - all copies of which record when first released were seized by the Metropolitan Police's Obsence Publication Squad.

I hate... People
I hate... People
The Anti Nowhere League set out on the road in 1980 to prove they could be the worst band on God's earth: loud, violent, obnoxious yobbos with one mission... to get banned from every TV show, radio station and newspaper, just for a laugh...... They were hated by the general public as well as 'real' musicians who thought they were a disgrace to the music business...

Kris Kristofferson - My mother and all my uncles would play all Mr. Kristofferson's songs on their guitars, so I grew up with this music, although my taste in music did change over the years. It's funny how you sing songs you remember, but the words are all wrong.

I do not like that version of Thunderstruck, it reminds me of the movie Deliverance. *shiver* I was quite disturbed by that movie when I first saw it.
Happy Halloween, dragon!

Well, I am with you on that movie as disturbing; but stand up in defence of the South. I like that version of Thunderstruck because it reminds me of the wilds of North Carolina, where I lived for a few years once upon a time.

Roadrunner was definitely better once I had the sound on.
Why have I got a Looney Tunes icon and category? At least can't I be a one of those fluffy wild things from Dark Crystal. Fizzgig.
Hi @VelvetineZone! It is a Halloween tradition on the Plaza. Sometimes, we get to pick which icon we would like. This year, the admins chose them for us, it would seem, due to a lack of time or some other reason that I am unsure of but do not mind. It is all in fun and only lasts for a short time. You look so cute! beep beep

Thank you @Drifa. Sorry, was a misunderstanding. I just assumed the dragon was winding me up. Been a long tiring year here, I guess I'm too overtired to think clearly.

Moving on. I am in underwater environments for home ed today. With my son, who is also a master of the art of winding people up, bless him, but that's incidental. He's also very lovely.
Anyway, it reminds me that something I enjoyed when re reading LOTR was how much archaeology there was, ancient ruins everywhere.
But this is a song thread. So it's Lowlands of Holland this morning, because doing marine biology made me think of the line "the salt sea shall be frozen".

That song reminds me that I always wanted someone to ask me why I wanted to study archaeology in my uni interviews, so I could say I really dig it.

@VelvetineZone, I just realized that the Matthew Arnold quote about the Mabinogion might appear as if I was attempting still to wind you up. Honestly, truly, that was not the intention. But sorry even so, and may I say that the sentiments expressed in that quote belong to a dead Victorian and are not my own (as I have next to zero sentiments on the Mabinogion).

Hi @Chrysophylax Dives, I know. Although if you did want to wind people up it could be a brilliant strategy to blame anything you said on dead Victorians. I might start using words of departed Edwardians to insult people.
I am currently listening to loud shooting from a videogame which is not helping me focus on the large number of Valar with multiple names appearing in the first bit of The Silmarillion. Best do some kind of match the Valar to their associated realms pop quiz to test myself or something. I like Varda, Lady of the Stars. Anyway, onto Morgoth now over the shooting noises and tumble dryer noises.

Basically, in LotR you like Aragorn, the master-race king, while in The Silmarillion it is the Mary Mother of God figure you go for. I am starting to worry about you, Velvet. For all that, I am very glad you are here.
We seem never to have had Janice on this thread, though the Dwarf may well have dropped her in at some point and I have forgotten.
Janis Joplin - Mercedes Benz
Eat earth. Dig deep. Drink water.
I'd interpret it more as the wild wandering yet learned Ranger, and the one associated with stars, than bringing in dynastic ruling and religious symbolism, but we all read different things into what we read, and regardless of what the author intended. Mind you, I'd actually forgotten all the destiny and kingship bit and mostly remember the Strider in the pub bit, but to be fair, it was all quite good when he gets all kingly and starts gathering up hordes of Dead etc.
I'm enjoying the lamps which become trees too.
No disrespect to Janis Joplin, but the no 1 Janice for me is the Muppet one.
