I like that Cash song.
Syria the last decades has been astonishingly grim. From what I understand, the metal scene revived in the civil war. Before they were arrested for Satanism, but in the civil war nobody cared about them anymore. That video encapsulates what I hold dear about Punk, namely a simple conversion of inner turmoil and pain into music that people dance to and feel a new sense of self and community. I ramble, but found that trailer very moving.

Thats odd as I haven't popped to the board for a bit, @Chrysophylax Dives , and suddenly remembered it, and popped in to find the song link.
I mostly have Frozen 2 songs on earworm at the mo due to the daughter's viewing tastes at mo, also the sound of wind and rain lashing against the house.

Big storms here too these last two days. We have two large dogs, and the larger one looks scary. He came from the Bedouin, who cut off the ears of dogs (for reasons unclear to me, but perhaps simply to make them look even more scary). So this one - Drew, is his name - is the kind of dog that if I saw on the street would make me nervous. But living with him I know he is a big softy, and the thunder terrifies him. Actually, these last two weeks we have had sirens in the middle of the night due to missiles from Yemen, and Drew is always the first one into the concrete safe room (Digby, his sister, does not stir when the siren goes). But the thunder really scared him. He spent the whole night on the bed of my youngest daughter - I guess because her bed has the most spare room.
That Newport song got this song in reply:

Goldie Looking Chain are fab. I don't know Newport at all as its South Wales and I haven't been to the South much!
No dogs here anymore, just a tabby cat, who's similarly been avoiding the weather by staying tucked up on daughter's bed.
I am a bit brainless and leafing through songs trying to get inspired. Oh I know! I always loved Mirror in the Bathroom but not sure if I've previously posted this Gaudi remix, love it!

This song has got stuck in my brain. It is a rip off of the opening song of the 1990s sitcome The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I don't understand why I keep playing it, but I do.

My delving into Welsh music continues. Above I posted a parody of 'Empire State of Mind' about Newport in South Wales, and then a Newport response to the parody, 'Newport State of Mind' by Goldie Lookin Chain. Now I've found a further Youtube video that continues the story. Note 'Newport State of Mind' playing in the first few seconds of this one.

Any chance of a link to one of these live cams?Pele Alarion wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 6:41 pm Mostly watching various bird/nest/feeder live cams with random 80s-90s music in between.
Maybe it is time to move on from pop music for a bit on this thread? What I have been listening to these days is mainly drilling. On the other side of the street they are drilling foundations for a new house. The noise begins around 7.30 am and continues to 4.00 or 5.00 pm. It is loud and the ground shakes and will begin again tomorrow.

Sure, @Chrysophylax Dives .

Also a feeder in Latvia, in someone's garden near my home town - https://www.youtube.com/live/ouZL-Zs0aUE
I also have drilling sounds, but from the neighbour's apartment. They have some sort of make-over/overhaul repairs there.

@Pele Alarion Thank you very much! Of the three, the first is the one that grabs me - wild rather than domestic. So far, however, I have been looking at an empty nest. But I will make this my Youtube homepage and see what comes along.
Have not watched live cams since the covid, when my homepage was one in the far north of Canada so I could see the northern lights.
@Drifa - good song, which I know from Easy Rider. But FYI I have now abandoned music for the song of the white-tailed eagles of Latvia. Though I have not heard it yet I feel in my bones that once I have I will never look back and will no longer be caught by the sounds of pop music.

I am assuming it is night now in Latvia. Either that or the eagles managed to paint the camera lens black. So if there are eagles now in the nest I cannot see them. OK. I check in tomorrow morning. I am eager to spot an eagle.

I wasn't quick enough to save my post before I hit preview and lost it all. Gah!
Cool videos, Pele! The rain sounds lonely. It makes me realize how wild nature can be.
Ah, come on, dragon! A little bit of pop does not harm.

@Chrysophylax Dives The eagles are off-season, but they do visit and bring twigs to improve their nest, just have to catch those moments when they are actually there. The camera is switching off at night, especially now when no one is living in the nest 24/7 (and even in on-season it is just sounds when it gets dark because camera doesn't have 'night vision').

I''ve been refreshing all morning. Finally, the camera is back on. No eagles yet. I will keep at this until I see an eagle.
Dwarf, I will never stop listening to music. But I have been reading the Earthsea books and am enjoying the fantasy of being a wizard who listens only to the wisdom of nature.

Ah, Ursula! I read the Earthsea books, but many years ago. Do you have the hardcover editions? I have the cycle in paperback, but I have yet to see or find one in hardcover. I like hardcover books, as they seem to last longer. I also enjoy her science fiction books. The Left Hand of Darkness, one of her breakthrough novels, is one of my favourites.

I read them before in paperback and now on my kindle. Never come upon them in hardback. I wrote up something on them on the What are you reading thread.
Most of my reading these days is on my kindle. I read The Left Hand of Darkness and remember thinking it was amazing but, tbh, I have no memory at all of what it is about.
Howling Winds (this is inspired by my eagle cam and also Earthsea - Gont might sound like this; in reality all day I have heard very loud drilling and also my two stupid dogs barking at the drill).
Also, so far I have got to know the twigs of the eagle's nest but have not yet seen an eagle.
Am feeling very grumpy. Thankfully they will stop drilling for the day in an hour.

@Chrysophylax Dives I guess Ms Milda and her partner Zorro have decided to make you and all the other watchers wait...

Good to know their names. Thank you @Pele Alarion. If and when I see one of them I will have to ask how I can tell which one I saw. At the moment I have learned that out of nesting season eagles are not so homey. What astonishes me is that at the moment there are 48 other people also staring at an empty nest.
To keep with the thread theme.
Am listening to the very distant buzz of chain saws, which someone is apparently operating in this forest in Latvia.
PS. Is that a lake I see in the distance?

It is more possible to find life in that eagle nest than the empty stork nest I have in the background at the moment - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0oEvktgur4 (storks won't return for a couple months yet, but hey... occasional small birds show up there).
Very likely that eagles are not eager to show because of that forestry work. It is an overflown stream, beavers have built their dam, so it formed a sort of pond/lake.

What is it, dragon? Is it just me, or do all voices sound the same now? Every new artist has the same MO in my ears. I find this new music scene frustrating.

I have a sense that our problem, you and I, that is, is that Hip Hop passed us by. For my part, I always liked punk as an historical concept, declaring the death of the rock and roll art form, commerically speaking. By 1977 it had all been done and could not be bettered, and the only thing going was glam and self-indulgent rock stars. The house parties with Djs mixing electronic beats in the last years of the last century was something new, and I got carried away in that for a little while. And then I heard Hip Hop as something new again, a turn that Tolkien somewhere in his heart would have approved of because rap put the spoken word center stage. But I was too old, too white, too much of a hippie to ever listen to Hip Hop.

I could never get into hip hop apart from the very occasional track, none of which occur to me. Just doesn't float my boat.
What I think is the problem with 'music' today is only the institutions of the music industry, the commercial packaging. Live music is where it is at, always has been, and always will be. In North Carolina I discovered a world of people hanging out on someone's front porch, making music together. That was just superb.

I am currently listening to rain and wind, the LP extended cut version.
There was supposed to be this big storm here. Snow was promised. And lots and lots of rain. But all that has happened is that it is a bit cold. I am very disappointed. It never ever snows where I live, but we are at the bottom of the mountains and every few years there is a fair amount of snow just up the hills. No snow this year.
Anyway, unlike @VelvetineZone I feel obliged to link to some music when I post on this thread. So here is a song that I dedicate to @Saranna, who has just read the first part of my book and said some incredibly nice things and so is my very best topmost fav. person in the whole wide world. The song title is mirrored in the provisional title of my book. The only problem with this dedication is that it was Saranna who told me about the song in the first place. I'd never heard of it before. But it is hippie and folky and others who hang around this thread may also like it.

Oh thank you CD! but I won't be able to hear it on my computer until I migrate to a new device that isn't going wrong in every possible way and that will be a while. There are at least 32 or 42 other urgent and expensive jobs to be done this year, many of which were last year's but I was too unwell to do them. In January I crossed '2024 Jobs' off the top of the list and wrote 2025 (I like lists on paper where they can't run away.)
But I'm sure I can find it on my phone.
Take care all :)
