You're all set now, @Almarëa Mordollwen !

I want to get in another Hatholdir post, @Ercassie , having him at the open meeting you made, and Council of Lords but then I'll get into the Bragollach with Thamáras and Carabanel (who needs to be captured) at a fort in the Ered Wethrin & my mortals with Rincion in their tower on northern slopes of Dorthonion. I'll have Thamáras send a rider to the Falas to warn Círdan about the Flames of Morgoth and Rincion will send a dove to Nargothrond alerting King Finrod about the fiery rivers as well before the minions arrive soon at both places.

We're just waiting on the minion attack on Dorthonion for me to get Rincion ordering our POV soldier folks retreating to Himring; Angrod and Aegnor could die as Rincion unites with them on the run and can get slain in a sortie. We also need the minion attack POV at Woodmere so we can see how the war is affecting civilians there in the western pinewoods; we could also get Barahir and his men in some action before he helps Finrod in the Pass of Sirion. Dorthonion won't be evacuated just yet, that's coming at a point in the gameplan structure though which needs to be looked at often now by you and @Moriel with me. Just waiting on her to use the prompt in our gameplan for Lothlann before I get Earenolwë fleeing the place but I'll post soon as him for @Aerlinn and you before we're under attack. I'll work on my minions in the Nethermost Hall post tonight.

Posted Thangorodrim baddies! Will be back with more, including Glaurung busting out and starting to cause some havoc. Attack spideys and non-baddies forthcoming.

All right. My first Eilinel post is up, @Aigronding Mordagnir. It feels *incredibly* simplistic compared to most of the rest of you at this point, but it's up!

Well, I made a simplistic post about Hrango's sister dumping a pail of water on @Aerlinn 's head near Turgon's palace so (and it was all Linny's idea in all seriousness :smiley9: ) :smiley9: . I'll be reading by the end of tonight, @Taethowen ! I need to finish another Gondolin post I'm writing and then a minion one for the RPG first. I'm excited to read your Eilinel one and happier to reply :smiley17: !!

Linny I had Ilmalaurië speak with Hatholdir and Hrango quick but she's back at post now. She had briefly told Aerlinn off screen that she'd return to relieve her in a minute :smiley10: .

Excellent Galadriel post @Thalionwen! I can’t wait to read more of her from your perspective :smiley8:

Galadriel truly is a character with potentially conflicted allegiances in this sort of situation; possibly the only Elf sitting at the Sinda King’s address with Noldor blood running through her veins. Which is why I had Thingol look for her amidst the crowd and even wonder whether she would even be in attendance, @Thalionwen. :smiley11: You did her proud. As indeed those for Daeron and Eilienel as well. :smiley22:

As for the evil, well; it is certainly shaping up to be a force of terror ! :smiley12: I’ll be Balrog-ing soon. :smiley9: Sorry @Bïfrøst, but my flaming minion has not forgot how Ungoliant assaulted Melkor back at Lammoth ! So I’m not sure if he’s coming for the chance to try and stomp upon your evil spider, or to be on stand by for if Sauron needs protecting from the arachnid. Either way, as Aig has hinted ... Konrauko is coming with your group. Dorthonion needs to burrrrrn ! :smiley15:

@Ercassie Oh Sauron is going to love having a balrog hanging out and reporting back :smiley9:
Anyone touches my little spider baby and they’re gonna get song to death :smiley16: I look forward to it though. I’ve read and heard all about the legendary Ercassie, it’ll be a trip to finally work with ya!

Just want to say to everyone that reading all this is so nice--Y'all are all so good!!! I was a little too young to follow the long posts on the old-Plaza AoA threads and I'm loving this one.

I knew you'd love that demons post of mine, especially considering Gothmog, @Ercassie :smiley11: :smiley17: ! He will have an epic bromance with Konrauko. I'm excited for your Balrog to scar my character and torch Woodmere though, surely, Aranroval and Gwendolyn don't share exactly the same sentiment :smiley9: .

Thanks, @Bombadillo !! You're welcome to join us :smiley8:

Just want y'all to know I got gems on that snowy light jewel of Celebrimbor's which will be made in Nargothrond :smiley9: ! Just talked to Linny about it.

You have a banner! That is somehow bigger than all the other banners, despite being THE EXACT SAME SIZE in every other program I open. :smiley20: :smiley9: Anyways, use that for FA 455 fire-y Dagor Bragollach stuff, and I'll make a general Angband one tomorrowish for other times/events.

Edit: Celebrimbor up for Himlad. If anyone has NPCs there or in the Pass of Aglon lemme know if you wanna play. :smiley8:

I play evil, too, @Aerlinn , and @Ercassie :smiley8: ! The banner is beautiful! I'll wait for your Angband banner so I can edit that into my last post as Gothmog and my demons. I used to have Telkelion in Himlad but he left, feeling spurned, so he's in the Gap right now. You'll have to get Ellindalë to find him once she leaves Nargothrond because of Celegorm's idiocy :smiley17: .

Oh, I didn't realize that was you, old friend! It'll be a while before we bring the Swarthy Men into play in the RPG. Unless you and I show their migration to Beleriand instead of just having them appear later on as the meet the Elves and begin to serve the Feanorians.

No worries at all-- a name and a region change does leave me almost indistinguishable :smiley9: (although I may swap back... I'm missing my Homely House)

I would be down for writing some of the migration -- but I'd also hate to detract from the excellent ongoings in Gondolin and at the Council. Either way, I'm eager to see the dynamic -- especially since so little is written about them before the betrayal.

I'll try to get the migration situated this week for us, @Androthelm . Finishing an AoA post I've been working on my first Bragollach response I've been working on for a few days. I'll need to do two more, update Aredhel and Thargelion then I'll show the Swarthy Men on their way. Tolkien says that the Swarthy Men though not all came at his call, so I'm going to have one of my demons - a new one - be an emissary of Morgoth who is going to speak to Ulfang (@Frostbite ) in the East and I'll have a Dwarven friend talk to Bor of its riches and the Siege of Angband. I'll set us up!!

This sounds like a good plan @Aigronding Mordagnir Iet's do some coordination and go over dialogue and such, that way we can make sure we match up. Looking forward to it!

I have been waiting for Almarëa to respond to Thingol's request as Mablung but in her absence, I'll post as Beleg volunteering to attend the Council to gve Thingol's decree, probably arriving late to Fingolfin's court in my next post. Any other Sindar Elves, feel free to come along.

That sounds great, @Frostbite ! And I can add you as a friend on Discord, too.

@Androthelm , it's sad knowing that the good easterlings find Beleriand all messed up from the Bragollach when they get over but at least their descendants go to Númenor along with the Edain I'm assuming. I'll definitely have my the ancestors of my modern-day Easterling, Tarias, among the good Swarthy Men. Anyways, let's kickstart that plotting, good gentlemen. I'm going to lay down some lore quotes for y'all so bear with me; there's a method to my madness:

So, Tolkien says in the Bragollach /Fingolfin Fall chapter of
The Silmarillion: "To Men Morgoth feigned pity, if any would hearken to his messages, saying that their woes came only of their servitude to the rebel Noldor, but at the hands of the rightful Lord of Middle-earth they would get honour and a just reward of valour, if they would leave rebellion. But few Men of the Three Houses of the Edain would give ear to him, not even were they brought to the torment of Angband. Therefore Morgoth pursued them with hatred; and he sent his messengers over the mountains. It is told that at this time the Swarthy Men came first into Beleriand. Some were already secretly under the dominion of Morgoth, and came at his call; but not all, for the rumour of Beleriand, of its lands and waters, of its wars and riches, went now far and wide, and the wandering feet of Men were ever set westward in those days."

Tolkien says in the War of the Jewels history, The Grey Annals, that in the year FA 463 (eight years after the start of the Bragollach), the Swarthy Men enter Beleriand: "The Swarthy Men came out of Eriador, and passing north about the Ered Luin entered into Lothlann. Their coming was not wholly unlooked-for, since the Dwarves ahd warned Maedhros that hosts of Men out of the further East were journeying towards Beleriand. Some were not uncomely and were fair to deal with; some were grim and ill-favoured and of little trust."

Tolkien has this to say about the Edain and the others in The Peoples of Middle-earth history:
"The Atani and their kin were the descendants of peoples who in the Dark Ages had resisted Morgoth or had renounced him, and had wandered ever westward from their homes far away in the East seeking the Great Sea, of which distant rumour had reached them. They did not know that Morgoth himself had left Middle-earth; for they were ever at war with the vile things that he had bred, and especially with Men (of Darkness) who had made him their god and believed that they could render him no more pleasing service than to destroy the "renegades" with every kind of cruelty. It was in the North of Middle-earth, it would seem, that the "renegades" survived in sufficient numbers to maintain their independence as brave and hardy peoples; but of their past they preserved onl legends, and their oral histories reached no further back than a few generations of Men. / The Men of Darkness was a general term applied to all those who were hostile to the Kingdoms, and who were moved by something more than human greed for conquest and plunder, a fanatical hatred of the High Men and their allies as enemies of their gods."

About some refugee Elves of the Bragollach from the Bragollach / Fingolfin fall chapter of
The Silmarillion[/i]: "Some fled the land and hid themselves in Ossiriand, or passing the mountains wandered homeless in the wild. And rumour of the war and the breaking of the siege reached the ears of Men in the east of Middle-earth."

And the Estolad refugees from the Coming of Men into the West chapter of
The Silmarillion: "In the ruin of Beleriand they were overwhelmed or fled back into the East."

So, Frostbite and Andro, this is what I propose: We start the Swarthy Men POV at FA 454, a year year before current time, in the hot air realm of Rhun. They are being increasingly attacked by the Men of Darkness (evil Morgoth worshippers of Rhun, Khand, and Harad). Bor and his sons have garnered renown as warriors against the servants of Morgoth and shepherds of his people, becoming chieftains who know how to win battles and how to govern their people; the same with Ulfang and his sons but they become haughty and ambitious. When their Dwarven friends who have trafficked into Beleriand and visited their kin in Ered Luin tell them about the riches of the country the Edain have gone to, Bor decides to head over there thinking he'll be accepted and own some land and fight for good. Ulfang and his children are of like mind openly but secretly plans to usurp Bor and his sons. Bor and Ulfang unite many houses of the Swarthy folk and they begin their migration.

At this point we flash forward years to FA 455. The Swarthy Men are pausing from their travels to rest near Greenwood the Great (later to be called Mirkwood) in Wilderland, their houses unified under Bor and Ulfang. Estolad Mortals and Sindar refugees of the Bragollach are telling the Swarthy Men about the breaking of the Siege of Angband and Morgoth assaulting Beleriand. They are still resolved to go over Ered Luin, especially Ulfang and his sons who are beginnign to think that Morgoth is on the winning side, despite having been attacked by his minions in the East. We flashforward to FA 463, years later, with the Swarthy Men of Bor and Ulfang scattered between Lake Evendim and the Weather Hills. Ulfang and his children are met by a servant of Morgoth, one of my demon NPCs, and are welcomed to join the forces of Angband, promising great wealth of land and a pledge of non-aggression. Ulfang and his sons agree, believing that Morgoth is on the winning side and obsessed with power.

From that point we'll have them enter Lothlann...and the rest is history. Does this sound well to get the Swarthy Men coordinated to begin with, Frost and Andro?

Edit: Sorry about the italics at thd bottom here. It's difficult formatting posts on the new Plaza on my end.

@Lantaelen, you made me laugh with the "Turgon's vanishing act" comment :smiley9: ! You can still attend the council at Mithrim while waiting for Alma to appear as Mablung but you can still remark, if you'd like, that you came with him (foreshadowing their mutual entering of Nirnaeth in the next RPG :smiley10: ).

I'll be coming with Sillandhas, my Marchwarden of Doriath, to cause friction at the council in addition to the...fiery, outspoken nature of Celegorm :smiley9: . I'm going to be posting for the Council tonight and I'll contact @Nurbor on Facebook Messaging to ask if he can post as Fingolfin soon for the Council and Barad Eithel. :smiley22:

@Aigronding Mordagnir - I am planning to post soonish (i.e. over the weekend) as Curufin in response to @Aerlinn's post - can I run it by you first?

Also, shall I wait to have him flash back to the Council of Lords? Or should I be good to do that one as well?

Yes, you can flashback to the Council of Lords, too 😁. I'm gonna work on that tonight after I leave the gym. 🥀

@Lantaelen , I had a feeling this was bound to happen 🤣. Thanks for tagging her for me 😅.

Since no one has taken them, I am commandeering Angrod and Aegnor. They'll be dying soon so I'm sure no one else would care if I have them until their demise in Dorthonion. GM's prerogative :smiley10: . I talked to Nurbor and he told me that his post will be up today, so we should be set to continue soon. @Tarawen , I have posted as nasty Celegorm trash talking folks and hanging out with his equally nasty brother Curufin and annoying his nephew, @Aerlinn , enjoy my old friends :smiley9: . Sorry about the formatting😔. It's 6 AM and I'm just getting to sleep now 😅.

@Aigronding Mordagnir - Thanks! I'll ping you on Discord with some post-y thoughts this weekend. :smiley8: Now, I'm off to catch up on your Council of Lords post!

OH ALSO I just found my old Angrod and Thorondor posts on an old hard drive and in my re-read of the Silmarillion was very sad to remember Angrod dies so soon, but also got super excited for Thorondor to attack Melkor later on.

I'll be on Discord long nights this evening and Saturday and throughout Sunday since I don't have a shift @Tarawen 😁 so I'm excited to plot! Do you want Angrod back?! Let me know and you can have him in the Council of Lords and in his last battle of Dorthonion. I can RP Aegnor along side you. You and I should always be canon sibling buddies 😘

Awww, I love your tribute post for me, old friend 🥰😍! You've made my day, Tara! I'll be there late tonight after work!

@Aigronding Mordagnir - Yaaay for days off! Glad you have some true weekend time coming up. I will take Angrod only if you don't mind. I definitely don't NEED another character, but I am down for being Canon Sibling Buddies 4 Lyfe! Thank you for keeping this whole thing going. Excited to plot!

I'll be sure to have Earcolante notice Crabanel and yell hide in the mountains or something, Aigronding.

Going to copy and paste an old Gondolin post in here from the late plaza that's not on the Wayback Machine, but I saved it as a word doc because it was quite a piece of work to write.

You can certainly take Angrod off my hands, @Tarawen . That can afford me more focus on other characters I have at the Council of Lords and the attack on Dorthonion. I'll keep Aegnor to play with you. I'm going to remember you agreed to Canon Siblings for 4 Lyfe ALWAYS :D . I have to write my overdue post in the Ranger activity in Minas Tirith tonight but I should be answering you back on Discord tomorrow morning so we can Begin the Plotting of Things :smiley11: !

Oh, Crabanel will try doing that soon after she returns from getting captured and coerced/terrorized by Morgoth in Angband, @Dwarrow Elf , please :D . She's one of those Elves who Tolkien says Morgoth frightened into service during the Bragollach. Crabanel will be taken by Shytha, @Ercassie 's demon during the attack on Barad Eithel. I'm happy you were able to salvage your great writing and I hope you were able to save other treasures of yours as well!

I'm going to wait until Earcolante, Erfaron, Nemir, and Hador are in the war room before I RP Fingon and Crabanel with them in the tower; then I'll tell Nurbor that we're ready for him to help the commanders mobilize the defense of the tower before I bring Gothmog's forces.

For now I'll help Cassie set the stage for the fire attak on Dorthonion and the impending invasion of Sauron's forces there which will spell doom for the House of Beor and the Elves of House Finarfin in the fiefdom. I'll also get Lothlann set up for the coming of Glaurung and Filrain. @Celebrin , you want to set up the Himring POV or do you want to wait until the Orcs are swarming?

And so I have posted in Gondolin. Don't feel intimidated by that post, as much of the flashback was written about 3 years ago in 2017 during the late late plaza where there was a dearth of active RPing members on the site and I wanted to show that the plaza still was a formidable site for roleplay and storytelling. I revised certain parts of it, but left the song unchanged.

@Krumhûr , it's great to have you back on the Plaza!! I've missed plotting with you, old friend :smiley8: ! Would you like to be Gorgol the Butcher? He's an Orc (possibly even a Boldog if you want, a demon in the form of a monstrous Orc which commands Orcs which are not evil spirits, mentioned in Morgoth's Ring history) who hunts down Barahir - Beren's father - and kills him. He takes the Ring of Barahir as a prize and is shot by Beren just as Gorgol is gloating to the Orcs in his company. Gorgol is mentioned in the Lay of Leithian in the Lays of Beleriand history. Gorgol means "Cloak of Horror." I've been hoping that someone could play him killing Edain and Elves of Dorthonion then Sauron appoints him to find Barahir eventually and execute him. Sounds good?

I'm going to be Orcabal, an Orc chieftain from The Fall of Gondolin in Book of Lost Tales II. Does anyone want to play the Orc-lord Othrod, Balcmeg, and Lug (all of them from the Fall of Gondolin)?

Okay, battle placements:

Barad Eithel attack: Gothmog (Me), Eris (Me), Kratos (me), Shytha (@Ercassie ). Fingolfin (@Nurbor ), Fingon (me), Hador (@Turin Ringhûn ), and Galdor are here.

Dorthonion attack: Sauron (@Frostbite ), Konrauko (Cassie), Gorgol (Krumhir). Sauron will attack the fortress of Angrod (@Tarawen ) and Aegnor (Me). Gorgol will attack Ladros. Konrauko will attack Rincion's tower and Woodmere village near Rivil's Well. Beren (me) and Emeldir (@Thalionwen ) will see fighting in Ladros, including Barahir's comrades.

Lothlann: Glaurung and Thuringwethil (@Moriel ) attack Maglor (Me) and his riders, routing them toward Himring.

Aglon, Himlad, Himring: Filrain (Me) will split her forces: Orcabal (me) will assault Aglon where Celegorm (me), Curufin (Tarawen), and Celebrimbor (@Aerlinn ) are. Once Aglon is forced, Balcmeg will lead the Orcs into Himlad. Lug will besiege Himring where Maedhros (@Celebrin ) is and soon Maglor.

Rerir and Thargelion (Where Caranthir - Moriel - is): Thuringwethil and Filrain will attack both then Thuringwethil will join Sauron in Dorthonion (and later Minas Tirith because of her involvement in the Lúthien story). Once Thargelion is ravaged, Filrain will attack East Beleriand, coming against Amrod (Me) and Amras (Moriel).

The Gap: Glaurung burns it all. What else is there to say? :smiley12: :smiley9:

Image

The Pass of Sirion: Once Gothmog is repulsed, he'll send Kratos' Orcs toward the Pass of Sirion where we'll have the Finrod-Barahir encounter at the Fen of Serech (which is near the northern opening of the Pass). Gelmir will cover Finrod's retreat at Minas Tirith and be captured as Orodreth fights off the Orcs. The text says that for two years after the Bragollach that the Western pass was defended by Minas Tirith but falls with the coming of Sauron and the werewolves. So we won't have the Pass invaded just yet.

There will come a point when Fingolfin and Fingon try riding east to help the Feanorians with Hador and Galdor. They'll retreat back to Barad Eithel then Hador will die.

Curufin posted at the Council of Lords! @Aigronding Mordagnir - I didn't do anything with Angrod in this post as you had him in your Council post, but I'll pick up with him whenever he is next needed.

This outline of battle placements is super helpful. Will be working on a response to @Aerlinn at Himlad next, as well as a post for some NPC shenanigans with @Almarëa Mordollwen and @Quill !

You know from our Discord chat how much I love your Curufin post, @Tarawen :smiley9: :smiley8: :smiley11: ! I was sleepy that night / dead of morning writing that so didn't get to use Angrod much but you're welcome to start using him now at the Council - siding with his brother and Fingolfin about mounting an attack on Angband :smiley17: ! That can save me me more time to use the characters I have there. You're welcome, Tara, I want everything to be clear as possible since I know there's so much drama unfolding during the war. Can you write a Morwen POV when Ladros gets attacked by Gorgol's Orcs? She is there in Dorthonion, Tolkien says, when the fiefdom of Angrod and Aegnor gets assaulted and she goes with Emeldir during her exodus to Hithlum. Morwen is 12 years old right now at the time of the Bragollach War; her father, Baragund, stays behind with Barahir and he is murdered by Gorgol's troops at Melian's lake in Ladros.

@Ercassie,@Laintaen , and @Almarëa Mordollwen , Doriath will be "encompassed" by Orcs Tolkien remarks following Sauron's possession of Minas Tirith later on in the RPG. When that happens, the marchwardens can protect the boundaries of the Girdle as well as Mablung's troops.

I've begun writing an update for the Haladin, @Moriel and one for the Aredhel plot! :smiley11:

Excellent, @Krumhûr :smiley8: !!! You have Gorgol now and Lug, please. Your Orc-lord will storm Himring with his troops. You can have Lug for the next two RPGs (Nirnaeth/ Turin one and the other chronicling the falls of both Doriath & Gondolin, he dies in Turgon's city). As soon as Moriel writes Glaurung in Lothlann, I'll have my demon commander - Filrain - split her forces to attack Aglon, Himlad, and Himring that's when you'll hit Celegorm and Curufin and Maedhros  :smiley22: . Sauron will be attacking Dorthonion soon so when @Frostbite and @Ercassie come there, we'll get you to assault Ladros.

I've updated the Dramatis Personae in the Imladris Archives to show Tarawen has Angrod and that Krumhûr has Gorgol & Lug. The Great Orcs Othrod and Balcmeg are still available!

I'm not sure if Moriel asked you, @Aerlinn , but could you make a Thargelion location banner? One with forests and maybe a flowing river on it unless Moriel has a different option?

Haha happy to take Angrod off your hands and save you time, Aig. Per our Discord convo, I’ll get reading and working on fleshing out some backstory for Morwen and will eventually lead off with a childhood flashback + her reaction to the rivers of flame.

I'm excited for my Beren and Beregund response to your Morwen past-future post, @Tarawen :smiley8: !

Haha, @Celebrin :smiley9: ! We could talk about how we can get your NPCs involved in the Bragollach conflicts on Discord or Facebook Messenger :smiley8: ! We'll wait for Beleg to appear at the Council soon so no worries :smiley22: .

Okay, the Haladin are updated! Next up is my Aredhel update sometime today which takes us Glorfindel, Ecthelion, and Aredhel into the dangerous Nan Dungortheb Valley @Dwarrow Elf ! @Moriel and @Frostbite , get ready with your spiders! Some will need to die but if you want certain ones to live (I think Frost does), let us know!

So, I've talked to @Tarawen and we want to harass Eöl for @Moriel to introduce him before Aredhel shows up :smiley9: . Celegorm and Curufin are going to be leaving Himlad in my Obstinancy post so they can ride with Caranthir on a Thargelion visit; along the way they're gonna harass Eöl who's travelling to hang out with the Dwarves in the mountains :smiley9:

Part 2 of Earcolante's flight has been written. Hope you all like some nice volcanic lightning attacking the cavalry. Part 3 is in the works, and we shall see in what state Earcolante arrives in the war room at Barad Eithel.

@Ercassie feel free to move on ahead of the cavalry general if you wish :D.

@Laintaen thankyou for taking Beleg along to the Lords Council meeting. :winkkiss: It is a relief to know that probably the most diplomatic Sinda of all Doriath is going to enter that pit of anarchy ! :googly:

@Dwarrow Elf  Leave commanding officer behind to die horrible death and then state was ‘just obeying orders’ when the General shows up alive. Got it.

I am working on posts for 1) my elves at Ard-Galen/Hithlum and the Gap, 2) for my mortals at Dor Lomin and Dorthonion, and 3) for my minionies getting excited.

Gondolin I shall return to later as its not timely right now. And since Thingol is sitting on his thumbs, I believe Doriath is up to date for me so far. If I’ve forgotten anything else I should be doing @Aigronding Mordagnir, feel free to poke me as clearly I’ve forgotten

Council of Lords post is started @Aigronding Mordagnir @Tarawen. Give me another day or so. Trying to strike the balance between sarcastic and jaded but still less annoying than his immediate relations. :rasp:
