Cold magic for dwarves.
Replicate their craft, inside out.
Awake or dream? Scream!
Come inside so you can enter.
Knock? Guests unexpected.
Snap!

Durin's Door

Every riddle I post it seems that someone thinks the answer is Durin's Door. But I am afraid that is not the answer.

Aranadhel. That is a very impressive answer. I can see how it would be right, and as such be a deep reading of the lines of the riddle. On that, well done! (You have given me pause for thought.) Unfortunately, Mithril awakening the Balrog is not the answer to this riddle.

This is seriously food for thought.

Could it be Bilbo entering Erebor?

Does this have anything to do with Bilbo, who had trouble falling asleep, and when he did, he had a horrible dream; and, upon awakening, realized that part of it was genuine. And with a loud yell, he alerted the Dwarves as they were all (except Gandalf) being captured by the Goblins, from said creatures "Front Porch"; and hustled through a crack in the wall which closed with a snap?

@Aranadhel, I am afraid that @Drifa has just about got it. however, as he has failed to spot, or at least point out, the acronym, of which i was very proud, i am insisting on the proper answer as required by the ancient rules of the riddle game, namely: say what i am called? so until i have a name, the riddle is still open.

Maybe... (Or: CRACK SNAP!)

O hell. @Drifa has it. The name I was looking for was 'the other hidden door' - but that is not the name in the story so i cannot insist.

Before leaving the floor may I say that when I answered the raven riddle I felt good but by the time I came to post a riddle I felt odd and got a positive covid test. Today I feel almost OK again but I am very proud of maintaining my watch on this thread during the last few somewhat delirious days.

Ah, sorry to hear the negative (positive) results, @Chrysophylax Dives. Glad to hear you are feeling better. Nasty virus.

I have often wondered about that door on the Front Porch. Was it magical or mechanical?

If someone would like to post a riddle, please be my guest. If not, I will have one up this evening.

Hmm could it be Eru Ilúvatar?

He created Eä but is also exists in the timeless halls, he's the overseer of everything but he's not really talked about and is only mentioned a few times, the music of the ainuir was interrupted several times by Melkor but as of the fourth age most of the enemies (Morgoth/Sauron) are defeated/contained.

Nicely done. I’ll try my hand at another riddle. Middle-earth related of course.

A winged verdant beast I’m named
Though none can I outrun.
Songs are sung of my renown
Though victories I have none.

Thanks! Try this one.

Perhaps says I.
As for faith, in one with sagacity,
I shall so place.
Eager, tireless and sure, with such vigour,
all I needs to do is loosen my grip;
and through whiteness, we shall zip.
Who am I, and in who do I place my faith?

"sagacity" (one of my favorite words by the way) makes me think wizards and "through whiteness" says snow or clouds to me

So, following this logic path, Gandalf, putting his faith in Gwaihir after being rescued from Orthanc and flying through the clouds to escape? I could be wildly off, but this makes sense to me in the moment
"We are born of the blood, made men by the blood, undone by the blood. Our eyes have yet to open... Fear the Old Blood..."

gah, someone please post a guess!

i agree that the white zip sounds like snow or clouds.

but what is all this 'maybe i put my trust in wisdom' stuff? who says that? what beasts are there beyond horses and eagles, and it don't fit any horse of Rohan i can think of, nor Bill the pony. Could it be something to do with Bombadil and the lost ponies? Or his own pony? Otherwise it is some obscure first age Morgoth story... That trusty dog?

i must say, Aranadhel, you have a talent for deep reading of these riddles. i don't reckon this is the right answer - it might be, but the One Ring does not seem to fit the 'beast' side of things. but its a really striking reading of the riddle: not at all expected and yet when i return and read the lines it does fit in a peculiarly fitting way. you did the same with my last riddle.

I'm stabbing in the dark because the riddles are way off the scale my Hobbit friend.

Is the answer then Aragorn's mother (I forgot her name)?

or is it Mandos?

Aragorn and reforged Narsil?

I don't read any animal in the poem, so I can do one last shot on a sword. "and through whiteness, we shall zip" Feels to me that a sword cleaves through the mist. The hint is not obvious to me, Drifa. It is great you like the Second Age much. But it can not enamour me. I like the First and Third Age better.
